knee high by the 4th of July back when they used to start planting around May 10th .. now some plant by April 1st to April 15th .. I am in Southern MI very much the same Climate as NY

Lake Ontario.. I was on Lake Michigan with a friend when he caught a 33 # Coho Salmon of Chinook not 100% sure anymore..

Great video. Funny you all say 'mowing hay', where we are used to mow grass or alfalfa and only after drying it turnes into hay. Thinking about it: did you grow hay? 🤔😊

Done. I've seen many of the farming duties you all work at daily. I didn't so much mind the work really. The hardest parts were hauling all the small square bales of hay and straw. On days when we ran the hammermill to grind feed for the milk barn his set up was old. Feed was upstairs via ladder. Big rectangle like hump in the middle and could only offload the feed on 1 side so when the other side needed it you shoveled 4000 lbs of feed over that 4 foot tall and 6 foot wide hump to the other side. I loved the smell of the pickled silage in the late fall and winter.

Corn looks okay but here in Virginia the people that got it in early are killing it . The tallest corn I have ever seen. And the ones that got in late are wilting a bit.

No,not that I ever heard. It is an *old* way to judge the progress of corn crops early in the season. It hasn't meant much for decades because if it isn't knee high by the 4th of July it will be way behind today's average. Decades of seed selection,hybrids,etc got it to where it is today. I am a grampa and my grampa would have used the expression and been correct for his time,he farmed with horses instead of the "newfangled" tractors.
