    Regarding the face shape. What's difficult is finding a stylist that knows what a good shape is for your face. I've never found one that knew what would look good on me.

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Před 12 dny +22

      I hear you. This is why I say to stay away from the idea of face shape and focus more on how to accentuate the aspects of your face. So, if you love your eyes, tell the stylist what hairstyle you want to move into but ask them if there's a way to have that shape but modify it to help accentuate your eyes. Hope that makes sense.

    • @ThrewOutMyHalo
      @ThrewOutMyHalo Před 12 dny +27

      @justinhickox it makes sense. The way I see it is that your stylist should be the one guiding your shape. You can give them an idea, but I feel if they are good at what they do, they would chime in and say, what about this or what do you want to accentuate. I've never had one ask or guide me.

    Such good advice about changing face shape, how you can draw attention to or away from certain areas and how to achieve based on your hair texture. I always desire styles that I can’t achieve because of my texture which has a mind of its own. I need to accept my texture and find styles that work for me. I need to find one of those apps that you can insert your photo to see how different styles, with current trends, might look. Any recommendations?

    Now that I'm over 50, I am trying different kinds of shampoos/conditioners because I've noticed my hair produces less oil now. Problem is, I don't want sulfates, I don't want glycerine and I'm frugal, on a budget, and don't want to spendore than $15 bucks on a bottle or tube of the stuff. Oh! One more thing, I want it to be purple so it minimizes and brassiness so I can keep my hair healthier by toning it less often. Crazy amount of requirements! I haven't found it yet. 🙄

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Před 12 dny +13

      I totally hear ya there. I'll keep my eyes open. So far, I haven't seen a shampoo that has all that. There are a TON of different shampoos and conditioners out there though. I can say the Hairstory New Wash that I mentioned in the video doesn't have sulfates and while it isn't at exactly the $15 price point, it is a shampoo and conditioner in one so when you break it down, its as close as I've seen to what you're looking for (minus the blue/purple aspect). You COULD try "co washing" which is washing your hair with conditioner only. It's popular in the curly hair world. Some people love it. I still feel like people need some sort of shampoo agent to really get the dirt and build up out (especially if you're using a fair amount of hair products), but that doesn't mean it can't work. In that case, get a purple/blue conditioner and use that as shampoo. Try it for a couple weeks and see how your hair feels, then decide it you want to continue from there.

      Yeah, it definitely felt great to be outside again! I’m gonna be filming outdoors more often for the rest of the summer and into the fall. If you’re just running water through your hair, you’re not stripping out the oils like you would be with a shampoo. Your other option would be to use a very light spray like I used in the video that I linked at the end of this video. That can what your hair down enough to be able to style it but not strip anything out of it. Let me know if that makes sense.

      That’s a great question! I’ve been using it and found that it doesn’t wear hair down, however, I also use volumizing aids to help create bend. If you’re using it just by itself, then you may feel like it weighs your hair down a little bit. But with that said, without volumizing aids, any product or conditioner is going to make your hair feel like it’s a little bit weighed down. I would definitely use a heat protectant as well. The Pureology does add a bit of protection, but not nearly enough in my experience.

    Hey Justin. I follow nearly all of your suggestions. BUT I do have questions. 1. I use a small amount of dry shampoo the day OF my wash after I dry & style. It provides a little more life and it seems to help be go to day 4 before I need to wash. When I wait until my hair is oily, then the dry shampoo just doesn't seem to do as well, rather than the preventing it in the beginning. Is that bad? 2. I use a clarifying shampoo twice a month. Do I need to shampoo to the ends now as well as roots because I use more product there? 3. Face shape: it's amazing how we tend to get use to our face and ignore the change a bit. Change hair styles, take selfies or look at pics of yourself in group pics.....what do you see now? It's pretty crazy Love that view. Looking forward to the upcoming message/explanation in your video.

      Hey! Great to see you today! You bring up some great questions. Using a dry shampoo to be proactive about controlling oil isn’t a bad thing at all! In fact, it’s something I recently learned about. I love that idea and there’s no reason you shouldn’t continue doing it. as far as shampooing roots to ends, the only reason I would do that is if you’re finding that your hair feels very dirty on the mid shaft and ends or it’s feeling weighed down. If it feels OK, I would not worry about that at all. As for the video explanation, I think it’s going live on this Sunday. I can’t wait to hear what you think! It was definitely the most challenging video I’ve ever filmed and edited! Legitimately took me a couple of months of working on it and thousands of miles of traveling.

    74 with short, fine hair that for years has been color treated at the roots to cover the grey. I am now a blonde not was brunette until about age 55. My hair texture has changed from coloring and aging. It's coarser/a little dry. I always use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner with mousse or spray at the roots for volume specifically on the crown. I'm afraid to use moisturizing shampoo for fear of weighing my hair down. Is there a volumizing, moisturizing shampoo?? And one more thing. My hair stylist is constantly wanting to give me a pixie cut. Scared me. I think it will just make my face look rounder even though I know that style generally draws the eye up. 🤷🏼 I just can't do it.

    • @justinhickox
      @justinhickox  Před 12 dny +10

      Hey, you’re definitely not alone here! Next Tuesday I have a video coming out that may give you more insight to all of this! I think you’ll really like it. With that said, there are volumizing shampoos. I’m still looking for one that I really like, most of them don’t really seem to make a big difference. if you haven’t tried leaving in conditioner, that may be a good starting point for you as well. If you mix the one, for instance, that I mention in this video and linked in the description with a volumizing product, it shouldn’t weigh your hair down and still give your hair some of the moisture that it needs. Sleeping with a silk pillowcase may also help, as it will not strip as much of the oil out of your hair as cotton Will. Small things, but they add up. With short haircuts, like a pixie, it’s all about where the volume sits. If there isn’t a lot of volume on the sides, and there is some height on top, it can definitely make your face actually look longer. But if there is volume on the sides and the top looks flat, it will add, more with to your face. It isn’t so much about it being short, it’s all about the shape of it when it’s short. I hope that makes sense.

    • @jann3443
      @jann3443 Před 12 dny +4

      @@justinhickoxIt all makes sense. I do sleep on a silk pillowcase. And my stylist concentrates giving volume at the crown/top area of my head . She's doing everything right. I just can't always duplicate it. I am getting better . There's hope 😉

      Great question. My wife was like that for years. I haven't found a simple answer yet (apposed to dry shampoos). You can always shampoo your scalp and just pay close attention to trying not to et the shampoo roots to ends. That's likely your best bet, BUT, I WILL keep looking into this.
