    The origin of the Macbeth legend, at least as far as I know, is that when a theatre troupe thought the planned play was a disaster or something was terribly wrong (to prevent the planned show) then Macbeth was the "default" show that was put on, every theatre troupe knew the play so it was the filler in case of disaster. As a result to mention Macbeth was to imply that the scheduled show would be a catastrophe, thus the legend that Macbeth signified disaster on the stage.

    • @henchman3725
      @henchman3725 Před 2 lety +25

      Spot on. I was going to post the same. The reason that Macbeth was the go to play to play is that it is comparatively short, there is lots of blood, the plot is simple, and it was popular.

      I dont doubt you, but the reasoning is flawed. That only makes sense if they were doing another play and mentioned MacBeth, then it would be a jinx or bad luck. Mentioning MacBeth when doing MacBeth doesnt make sense with that origin story.

    • @henchman3725
      @henchman3725 Před 2 lety +8

      @@avidadolares That is absolutely right. If the performers were in a run of a play (any play) and they heard Macbeth being mentioned by management the inference was it was being discussed as a replacement of the current play. From there the mention of Macbeth in the theatre became associated with bad luck. Of course, I could be wrong and it is cursed. 🤷‍♂️

    • @henchman3725
      @henchman3725 Před 2 lety +7

      @@spikejoestar3374 Shakespeare only had one main character of colour, and Denzel has already played him. But, Shakespeare's plays are so well-known - and done so often - all over the world - that it is not at all unusual to mix it up abit. Are you saying that for example in a stage production in Japan, only a white man could play the part of Macbeth - or any others of the Scottish royal line, for that matter?
      Anyway, if you want a white Macbeth, there are dozen versions that already exist that you can enjoy. I for one am looking forward to Denzel's version. He is eerily capable of playing disturbed charaters, so I think it will be excellent.

      @@spikejoestar3374 Yup. Her and anyone else of colour on the show. I quite like the fact that The Witcher is pretty diverse, certainly for being loosely based on European folklore. But, since it's first and foremost fantasy, there is no real need to adhere to any "historical colorcoding".
      I have to admit, though, that I had a harder time accepting when it was announced Idris Alba was going to play Roland in the Dark Tower, but that's because I've read the books so many times - wherein Roland is described to resemble Clint Eastwood - that he was very established in my head that way. But, it's not something that I kept holding on to, and in the end, Idris did a decent enough job of it. (Not that it could save the film; that was pretty much doomed from the get-go, trying to make a normal-lenght movie out of 7 books, each one longer than the last... Why, why, why, Hollywood..?)
