I was thinking about this. The grid is not like the real world. You can make devices of any material and can be controlled completely. Hence an indestructible disk which always comes back to you when thrown would be consistent. What I think the movie wanted to show was that it's a fight to the death, basically. The disk are the stakes and the weapon in one which is pretty metal.

Simply going by what criteria critics look for in film it is lacking, and if one doesn't get hooked on the setting there is little else to keep your attention. Visual and sound design its 10/10, but for story, and script... its very lacking, especially in originality. Also the long run time (2 hours) doesn't help when the passing isn't on point. in 2010 we got, Inception, the kings speech, shutter island, toy story 3, the fighter, and a few more really good films/noteworthy ones such as black swan, how to train your dragon, the town etc. 2010 was a tough year to come out in and honestly I think this movie is worth 7/10. im ok loving a film that isn't highly regarded by all.
Watching this in IMAX 3D and the amazing soundtrack through the theater system was mind blowing. I went back a few days later to watch it again just to catch things I might of missed and take it all in again. It was truly ahead of it's time. That scene was one of the highlights of the movie.

This sequence was not in the original script. It came about following the suggestion of these four ladies as they practiced using the suits. The suits had batteries and lights that were very hot, meaning filming was very limited. Some actors were badly burned as a result. Kudos to those ladies !

this film has ALWAYS been ahead of its time, I wanted to have the feeling of watching and listening to these songs in the cinema must be a surreal thing.
Which is kinda ironic because the original was extremely ahead of its time as well. So, carrying on the legacy. I love that they pushed the boundaries again with this one. In so many ways. Having Daft Punk do the whole score, not just the soundtrack, was a genius decision. The modernization of the world felt extremely realistic. It's a work of art and carries the story of Flynn forward.

When I saw it at theaters, the digital projector stopped just as son of flynn hacked the server with the barking dog. I will always remember that breaking the 4th wall moment, whether it really was an accident, or whether the projectionist decided to make the showing a memorable one. I bought the bluray the moment it came out.

I've stewed over the mythology for a bit and came to a stark realization about the Sirens. I think they are older than Clu. Kevin lost his wife, and had a playground of his own imagination. I think the sirens were his coping mechanism after his wife passed away but Kevin is a good person at heart. When he had his 'Westworld' moment, he realized it wasn't at the very least 'ethical' to create the sirens. The problem is when you create something who's existence to 'help' you, then you reject them, that has to have some serious consequences. By the time Clu rose to power, I'd wager their allegiance was easy to gain. Perhaps the other sirens are still locked, unable to leave that room but I think Gem, who looks a lot like Lori was Kevin's favorite, thus in turn Clu's allowing her to leave the staging area at will. The problem is Gem's perhaps anger\confusion at Kevin's rejection, and subsequent hatred of Clu made allying with Kastor an easy move. The lore gives us ample storytelling opportunities with the sirens, especially if they pre-date Clu.

It didn't suck, but it wasn't good either. I (and I think most people) just appreciate how impressive it was artistically, it was visually gorgeous and had an amazing soundtrack. The story itself is serviceable, but kind of boring. These visuals deserved a more epic script, and I think the Uprising show made better use of Legacy's aesthetics with a more entertaining story.
So glad they got Daft Punk for the soundtrack. It’s what made this movie truly special to me, it’s the perfect choice for Tron

My daughter and I watched this movie the weekend it came out. We enjoyed it enough we came back and watched it again the next day. Good memories.
