    Saotome sensei has a way of transmitting truth similar to poetry, working its' way into your subconscious like a dream.

    I still have his book THE Principles of Aikido. Never met him. But it was his book that started my Aiki Journey.

    Mike Ockurtz - he said "attention". I would add awareness to that. You see with your eyes, but just as important to successful Aikido technique is to "feel" the movement of your opposite. I can catch the hand of my opposite in Kotegeishi in exactly the right place without once looking at his hand, my practical experience and my "feel" draws my hand to the right place to place the thumb on the back of his hand, and my fingers on his wrist, and turn the wrist, downwards, and outwards pulling it towards my Hara whilst stepping around my opposite to allow him to fall. Aikidoka "flip" or Ukemi because in many techniques if the Uke does not try to fall as trained there will be severe injury. Ukemi is to protect against this because of the twisting and turning and the force generated by Nage throwing or techniques which cause Uke to fall. Aikidoka train together in harmony, this is how we learn, to receive technique is a privelege, and to ask permission to carry out techniques on our training partner is also a privelege. WE learn together. We give and receive, we learn, we grow.

    Reminds me of the charisma and enchantment I used to feel in the presence of my first teachers.

    One thing i notice is that often these great Aikido masters barely can express themselves or concepts. Ask them about what is Aiki or Ki and you will get uncohesive vague ramblings. Very different from Daito Ryu Jujutsu masters who clearly and logically express their kind of Aiki. That is bc in Daito Ryu Jujutsu things were also orally transmitted in clear language , while Aikido starts with Morihei Ueshiba who is famous for giving hard to understand esoteric speeches that most students didnt understand nor tried to understand. There is no real oral transmission in Aikido, and it shows with speeches by these Aikido masters.

      Indeed. Sometimes it takes years to understand one lecture or expression. Some shihan are try to write small papers to get it clear. For me I just train and learn.

    Nobody does it better. He makes you believe that Aiki kuzushi is as simple as walking and breathing!

      IT IS. ITS THE NATURAL UNIVERSAL MOVEMENT. DONT WALK INTO THE TREE. SIDE STEP IT.

    this dude is very wise and he doesnt say aikido is any more than what it is. as exercise and a mantra. it's a do as a way and aeiki meaning in harmony. it is not for fighting as far as I can tell from research, and was made to try and resist an enemy without hurting them unless you had a sword of course XD. pretty sure ki means energy tho so ai probably is what harmony means

    would love learning the blades tho in this combat style. kendo is also good for it. they are flipping way to easily tho. you wont pull a well trained person and flip them like that. going donward like that will cause them to loss balance. however normally someone is going to go for a punch rather than a grab. if you grab them they will counter with a punch to the head. also if they decide not to hold on your gonna get hurt. I would say a step back however with a very quick movement might flip them over with a leg foward

    Did he say aikido is attention or “ a tension”?

    • @user-ws3st7hu2l
      @user-ws3st7hu2l Před 3 lety +1

      I believe he meant tension, like when you draw up on a bow (no slack).

      "Attention," which includes a certain amount of mental and physical tension between partners.

      Yes. Ever slip and fall? That's how it feels. Not slamming. It's real Kuzushi.

      The more you train in Aikido, you realize how unimportant it is to throw or slam someone! There’s an amazing feeling to doing just the opposite and still be in control by the power of unity!
