Alex Da Corte - Mr. Remember brings together new and old works in a sweeping scenography. Da Corte adds a layer of color to almost any surface and makes it impossible for the viewer to keep a safe distance. His works describe our identity as created through dressing up, props and everything we consume. In Da Corte's depiction of our lives, every day is Halloween.
The exhibition presents all of Da Corte's work, but focuses on the last decade, when the works have become more complex in their idiom. Da Corte has created several new works for the exhibition, each of which, down to the smallest detail, has been specifically designed for and adapted to the exhibition spaces.
Alex Da Corte works across many forms of expression with an emphasis on sculpture, video and installation. He uses a wide range of materials and references: from cheap, mass-produced objects to exclusive design, from children's television to the Master of Art History, and from French poetry to American pop music.
Some of the references are easily recognizable, but in Da Corte's processing there is an alienation or a displacement of the familiar. His art constantly moves back and forth between the cheerful and funny and the dark and melancholic, which gives the works a deep emotional resonance.
