  • In this video I show you how to make a clutch wallet. These wallets are a great item for rookie leather craftsmen as well as the experienced. There are many variations that can be made from this simple design. I walk you through my entire process of creating one of these popular wallets. These are great gift ideas for the woman in your life or to offer to your customers who are wanting to give that special everyday carry gift.
    If you would like to make one of these yourself and would prefer to use my patterns, then you can purchase the Companion Pattern Pack that goes along with this video. This pattern pack is an INSTANT DOWNLOAD PDF that includes all the cut patterns and 8 different tooling patterns. The patterns have all the line up marks and hole patterns that you need to accomplish this build with ease. Great video and beautiful wallets at the end. Thanks for sharing. Finishing the buck stitch like i do, at the last stitch put a lacing needle on your lace and poke it thru the layers of your lining and outer shell towards the outside on an angle to the next stitch, then cut off the rest. works for me for years.

  • @damesydneyleatherworksprie9136

    I have made this wallet face four times now. Each time I’ve made it something horribly goes wrong with the stain and paint and antique process. I can only conclude that it’s the fact that I’m in California and I am forced to use water based stains and paints. As soon as the tan kote hit’s my stain or paint, it gets lifted right off of the leather.
    Third time around I’m going to block it with liquid latex and see if that works.
    Thanks Don for all of your videos, you are the go too guy on CZcams for leather learning.

  • @denasewell
    @denasewell Před 5 lety

    @2:32 yours is probably the best way but I go around my last stitch twice the hide then tuck the tail under the first stitch ..then cut (on an angle) the lace just long enough to tuck into the hole and then I put a little drop of the cement on a needle and carefully glue between the lacing and it is locked seamlessly in the stitch hole..Of course I am a nobody who does leather work as a hobby and definitely not someone who should be giving you advise..but I figured I would share it anyway for what its worth...

    This is fabulous!! Thank you so much for doing these videos. What kind of glue do you use by the way? Also- to end your buck stitch differently, if you don't have glue right there you can slip the end between your liner and outer layer in the center of the last/first hole (same with the first stitch). I end mine with a dot of super glue in the first/last stitch hole to lock it in but I've never had an issue with one coming out.

      Nothing is there to stop them from doing that, but I have never had a customer complain about it being a problem. I think if you had only one or two cards in there it could be but most folks have more and it seems to help keep them in place naturally. It is a lot faster.

      With this style of card holder, the friction of the cards against the back of the leather will retain them rather well, and once you get the tension from the other cards in the other slots, it retains them there as well. If someone shoved a card in the slot intentionally to get it past the line, yes, it can cause some troubles; however, with how tight these types of wallets usually are, it takes some effort (because slack is not built into the design but achieved through use).
