      Thanks for visiting. Lately I've been thinking I will someday say this also, because fixing up my knee is hard work. Not sure my knee wants to go downhill ever again. But even if that were true, there are other ways to feel alive in the Whites!

    I have used water much worse than that, filter it, then boil it, I have never gotten sick. Thank you for your effort and videos. I live up here, only a few miles from some of your White Mountain ventures, but probably won't ever get to the areas you do. I watch all your videos. You do a very good job!

      Ah, yes, the water. That has become such a treasured memory. Not that I want to drink puddle water again. But I appreciate your input that if I must, I will be OK. Thanks!

    Thank-you. That was a spooky trip, especially the descent. I always feel lucky if a weasel crosses my path.

      You know, I'd go back there again. I thought I would not ever want to go back there. But I do. The trails I most dread at this point are the north side trails in Randolph like Lowes Trail because they are wet and slick and shady. And long!

    This looked like a great trip. Thanks for sharing. I have been enjoying watching your videos during the winter months. Getting myself excited for backpacking season.

      Perfect! I do the same. Sometimes I watch people's videos just to feel the calm of camping, or the adventure. But sometimes I look at the ones that will get me ready for the seasonal challenges or location. Right now I am watching backpackers who get it done in the rain because I need to prepare for that.

    I love your videos!! Love that you solo to even places like this ❤ And love your culinary scenes with the cute music!

      Oh thanks! It is always so fun when somebody likes what I like. Husband says the music with meals has become a signature of the channel. I guess eating puts me in a jazzy mood.

    PInkham Notch has showers?! That's a game changer! Thank you :) I always drove to an accessible stretch of Saeko river, which was also nice...

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yes, and I hope they never take those showers away! It's such a great idea to offer things to hikers (not just thru-hikers) like meals and lodging and recovery of showers before the long drive home.

    I did this in the winter, and was able to go through the engine hill bushwhack, which makes it shorter

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před 10 měsíci

      That sounds good. I had not heard of the engine hill bushwhack before. It's a cool mountain for being out there on its own in the middle of the semi loop. But not sure I'm ever going back!

    That's a great way to do Isolation. I did Isolation this last winter with the 2 bushwhacks off the Rocky Branch trail. That cut down some milage. Would not do Rocky Branch in the summer, as it's all mud/water, and no where the views you had. Congrats on tagging another 4000 footer! Anyone think Glen Boulder will every roll down?

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Před rokem +1

      The Boulder looked solid. I read similar reports about Rocky Branch and that is why I didn't go that way. Great trip. I would never venture out there if it wasn't for the list of 48!

      What month did you use the two Bushwacks off Rocky Branch? Was it as steep as parts of the trail in Rachel’s video? Thank you.

    • @MikeRyder-ml2mb
      @MikeRyder-ml2mb Před 11 měsíci

      Did the 2 bushwhacks Feb 2023. The first 2 miles are where most of the elevation is. There is also the remaining elevation gain on the 2nd bushwhack. Make sure to watch the trail reports to see if the both bushwhacks are already established and the ice/snow bridges are established and can be walked. Then it's easy to follow. Stunning views at the top of Mt Isolation.. With ice and snow getting down the first .1 miles from Isolation top can be slippery. I just walked to the side where the snow was soft and deep and safely got down. Glad I did this in the winter, as the summer routes are either longer or muddy with water running over the trail. I didn't have any of that. Birch forest off the first bushwhack was great against the blue winter sky.@@Mona-CZcams2023 Trail conditions here www.newenglandtrailconditions.com/nh/

    Great job! Isn’t Glen Boulder nice? We camped in the same spot as you (but the larger spot that you left) and two hammock campers came in around 10:00…we were surprised (and so were they). The hardest thing is carrying enough water up there. Too bad you didn’t find water further down Davis Path, but, WOW, was that overgrown!

      @RachelWhelton  Před rokem +1

      Yeah 10 pm is late! I would have loved to see a moose on Davis Path but I was definitely getting the eebie-jeebies when the path closed in. Each time out I learn a lot.

    I’m back home in Florida from my trip home to my parents house in Maine, which is where I first found your channel while watching campground videos. Now introducing you to my husband. He’s now a new fan as well. We live in Everglades National Park without internet so we download videos to watch all week over our morning coffee together. This was perfect morning coffee watching! Great video!

    Not sure which way you went for water but if you do that trip again there are more reliable sources down the Isolation Trail (East). I stayed in that exact site this past July and got water not far from camp. Just a trickle but it was flowing. Just a tip for next time :)

    Wish I lived closer! 2-3 hour drive makes it hard for us to get up there but hoping to get some hikes in next month, Maybe this one will be next :)

      Yeah and the gas cost adds up over time. It has been a big commitment for me to hike each week but the payoff has been increased fitness and amazing trips. Hope you go for it because the conditions have improved. You missed the humidity and the bugs so now you can enjoy the best times!

    Thank you for giving me the confidence on backpacking alone ! Im an experienced hiker going solo often but as you were saying in your passaconaway video about camping out …being alone verses people that is how I feel ha ha ha another great video and congrats on another 48! I cracked up with the lil guy popping out at you again … I would’ve screamed too 😂

      @RachelWhelton  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I often find myself worrying either way on stuff. And even if I skip a trip and sit home, I end up worrying about something else at home! So might as well live life!

    Great video as always! I just hiked mt Washington nearby over the weekend. Curious, including this how many 4000 footers in NH have you done so far?
