1003 Signal Test With AF Timer RCM3 and RCM1A No Blower

  • Here's a test of all the signals on the 1003 I got from Arkansas in August 2010. AF timer, RCM3 and RCM1A are hooked up. The timer doesn't have a fire cam in it so it would run a steady hi-lo signal for three minutes. One solenoid is a bit buzzier than the other when operating. Not sure why that is. Oh, also there is a towel stuffed into the horn.

    @NicksGarageDoor The AF timer is turning on the RCM3, the RCM3 is turning on the RCM1.
    With the fire cam removed it will do a 3 minute Alert Hi-Lo signal.

    It stinks that you have to get rid of it. It's a nice ThunderBolt :) So is just the blower AC three phase?

    • @childishtombino1275
      @childishtombino1275 Před 7 lety +2

      My guess is that this is a single phase model as the rotator can be single or three phase.
      When a thunderbolt says its an 'A' series that means the Rotator and the Blower are three phase. the chopper will stay single phase indefinitely. I haven't heard of a three phase universal motor before XD
      While the blower may be single phase- what comes with single phase, comes with many many amps!

      The way these work is:
      You have a disc attached to a motor. The disc has blades that force air outwards. The disc goes inside a big cylinder with slots, so as the disc rotates the air can go out, then it can’t, then it can, then it can’t. This makes the tone. This siren uses a big blower, or fan to force air out of the slots. The more slots, the higher the tone. Those little sticks coming out the base of the horn are little metal sliders that block the flow of air out of the slots. You can open one and get a high note, then close the other for a low note. That’s what that *Kachunk. Kachunk* you hear is.
      Hope that helps!

      No, Chopper on the inside of the horn that makes the noise it's not a speaker has a chopper inside the horn with a rotator that spins the siren there's a blower that will blow the chopper to spin it faster
