The universe is 10^18 seconds old, and there are 10^82 atoms in the universe. If you multiply these two numbers together, it's still FAR smaller than the denominator of the probability of typing Hamlet randomly, which is over 10^130,000 possibilities. I don't know if the universe can make a watch randomly, but it DARN sure isn't able to make Hamlet randomly, unless it gets many, many orders of magnitude older.

@@Druid75Im a Muslim and I mostly agree with evolution because the Quran has nothing against the evolution theory. However, I don’t agree with you that there is no god. Therefore, Im gonna use the classic kalam argument, and you will try to refute one of the three points mentioned.
      1) Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
You can’t show us that atoms, or matter didn’t “popped out of existence”. Not empirically anyways. Can you describe to me how they have always existed and how they are infinitly old?
      2) The universe began to exist.
You can’t refute that point since science pretty much confirmed this is a reality. The cosmos is expanding, therefore, this leads to the conclusion that the universe had a beginning. And it’s agreed upon.
      3) Therefore the universe has a cause.
You can give how do you think that the universe has no cause, and we can argue based on your response.
Paul davis, who is a cosmologist concluded that the universe is fine-tuned for life, and the universe to be sustained. This is a broad agreement between nearly all scientists. Nonetheless, could you tell me how the fine-tuning of the cosmos doesn’t need god? Meaning, in my opinion, the burden of proof is on you, because the scientific findings don’t lean towards atheism at all, it’s the other way around. Unless if you expected to see god above the sky, im sorry, he isn’t there.

The key concept to illustrate why the watch analogy to sustain the claim that a god is a necessary explanation is a false analogy is that watches don't make copies of themselves.
Darwinian Evolution doesn't say a thing about how life emerged (that's another field, abiogenesis). But it explains that once there is a life form - no matter how simple it is - it will change over time, which explain our biodiversity.

Whatever form of life that was originally formed it had to have had the ability to sustain itself, and *reproduce itself* from the very start. Or else it would have become extinct as "Life 1.0" in the test trials.
No matter how much time and opportunity you throw at it, non-life will not form life apart from the input of an intelligent source making it so.
      It is not "inevitable."
      It is not "probable."
      It is not possible.
      It is impossible.
Time does not make the impossible possible.
You can't divide by zero no matter how many times you try. It was impossible yesterday.

Saying that any life form - no matter how simple it is - will change over time is true until it is false. What you’re not taking into account is the concept of equilibrium. Systems exist in equilibrium especially interconnected systems. So even while changes occur, they tend to come back to equilibrium. When the system equilibrium itself shifts to a new one, then one can argue that the new environment causes widespread shifts in the ecology and species that can thrive there. But you can’t hand wave and extrapolate small changes within an equilibrium constantly accumulating indefinitely with abrupt extinction somehow to prune out the species that fail to change.

"Problem is the religious cling to their beliefs more tightly if presented with reasonable arguments." I won't disagree. In fact the apostle Paul said that we "suppress the truth of God in unrighteousness" like pushing a basketball into a body of water, we will have to suppress that which is evident to us.
You have to steal from the Christian worldview every single day because you are made in the image of God. You live in God's world! Appeal to ethics? Appeal to truth? Appeal to logic? You cannot appeal to these without contradicting yourself.
      Your name: Pursuit of truth:
What exactly is truth? How would you describe what truth is like ontologically and teleologically?
Or how about this: what of the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Look at the calendar; what year is it? Jesus split time. Hundreds of eyewitnesses beheld Him after the resurrection. I have heard a great many of refutations. You present some if you desire.
I hope maybe we can debate some things if you desire.
We ought to pursue absolute truth. We agree. What is absolute truth? We would need to discuss.

For the religious atheists to throw Wurmbrandt into the gulag or Corrie Ten Boom into the concentration camp.
"So what?" may be a childish question but it begs a vital question: so what?
According to your worldview, we are meaningless bags of water. What was the slaughter of millions of Jews in the 20th century but the prime example of survival of the fittest? It's the Lion eating the Antelope, the Cougar eating the Boar. In a meaningless universe, why don't we rid thousands of people that might want incredibly inconvenient for us to keep around? The disabled cost a lot, I certainly cost a lot(I have narcolepsy). That's what you guys did in Germany. We are ugly bags of mostly water! Who cares?
You have to steal from God's world. You are made in His image. Go back to first principles: the laws of Logic. Study them. Maybe you'll be a bit more consistent then (for better or for worst (nihilism)).

Forgive me but I think you have come to the wrong conclusions here. As I understand it neither Sagan nor Darwin thought like that. Darwin believed in God and that Natural Selection supported his belief. Sagan does not deny the possibility of a Creator God. Evolution is a well-founded theory (it is inappropriate to call it a fact as our understanding of it will develop over time) and there are very few credible authorities who deny it. The Catholic Church for example - since the 1950s if not before - recognises that man has evolved and that the Adam and Eve story is an allegory for our relationship with God - not the literal historical truth.

      Correction. Evolution is a theory.
There are 2 types of science.
      High confidence and low confidence.
High confidence science is science that can be observed, tested and repeated.
This is true of MICRO evolution.
Low confidence science cannot be observed, tested or repeated.
This is the case in MACRO evolution.
Especially when there is more and more evidence arising which questions macro evolution such as the waiting time problem and the lack of transitional fossils.
Darwin himself said the test of his theory relies on the future discovery of transitional fossils. His theory is being refuted by his own test.
Progressing science is making the case for macro evolution weaker, not stronger.

    • @Jack-Jackson2000
      @Jack-Jackson2000 Před rokem +7

@@Denis-fs2ip Firstly, it's important to understand that the term "theory" in science doesn't mean a guess or a hunch. Rather, a scientific theory is supported by a large body of evidence that has repeatedly been tested and has not been disproven. In the case of evolution, the scientific community overwhelmingly accepts it as the best explanation for the diversity of life on Earth, based on empirical evidence such as fossil records, DNA analysis, and observations of living organisms.
Secondly, while we don't have a complete understanding of the origin of the universe, our current understanding of the nature of the universe allows us to make very accurate predictions about its behavior. The Big Bang theory, for example, has been supported by a vast amount of observational evidence, such as the cosmic microwave background radiation. Similarly, our understanding of the fundamental laws of physics, such as the laws of thermodynamics, allow us to make predictions about the behavior of the universe as a whole.
Finally, the assertion that "something cannot come from nothing" is based on a limited understanding of the nature of reality. Modern physics postulates that the universe is governed by principles of quantum mechanics, where particles can appear and disappear spontaneously. Similarly, the Big Bang theory suggests that the universe started as a singularity, a point of infinite density and temperature, where our current models of physics may not be applicable.
To summarize, while our understanding of the origin of the universe and the nature of reality is incomplete, the scientific community uses empirical evidence and well-supported theories to make accurate predictions about the behavior of the universe. Evolution, in particular, is widely accepted as the best explanation for the diversity of life because of the body of evidence in its support.

Without the contrast of nature, there is no reason to assume watches on the beach are not natural.
By this reasoning, we recognize design simply because we recognize nature.

That being said, given enough time complex life would appear in vastly different combinations.
But the fact that we still do not know from where all the known and unknown elements have come, we cannot say for sure that a Creator doesn’t exist for sure. @@unduloid I do not believe in god and you are right that god is often a god of the gaps. But your line of thinking I think doesn't work quite well. Because it is true that as our knowledge increases the gaps diminish in some areas. But in reality overall the opposite is true. The more we know the more questions we have about all the specific subjects we study and the deeper we go the more our theories tend to fail. The questions begin to be more fundamental. And so it might be true that we don't believe in a god of the sun or the plants, i don't think this diminishes the power of god, quite the opposite. Now people believe in more fundamental gods that answer more grand questions of science, and so they actually end up feeling more strongly about it. To the point that some gaps are so deep that we are not even sure that science could ever answer them, like questions regarding quantum mechanics and uncertainty principles. Previously it was enough to find out how storms form or how the sun moved across the sky to just drop the god. Now the existence of God becomes more and more unverifiable as science goes on. Doesn't mean that you should believe in him, just that the gaps are getting bigger and deeper, more fundamental and so also the appreciation for this ultra deep God that explains all of them. Every English book you've ever read is just a combination of the same 26 letters
And most stuff around you - people, trees, cars, houses - are just patterns of arrangement of the same 118 elements and 3 fundamental particles (up quarks, down quarks, electrons)
While rolling a dice you have no control over which face ends up on top, but you just keep on randomly rolling till you get six dots eventually
Similarly particles and elements keep on randomly arranging and rearranging themselves in all sorts of possible patterns and the perfect pattern for life eventually arises over time, without needing an intelligent creator
Another appropriate analogy would be password hacking - it's not about knowing the right combo, it's about trying all combos

Nope, but there must be a causeless cause. If there is not and the universe is not infinitely old (as was revealed by the CMBR), then there must be what Aristotle called the “unmoved mover.” The one that is a cause and yet has no cause. Theists call this first cause God

@@JacksTheater Special pleading nonsense. It's just making an exception for this so called god for no reason. The same could apply to the universe, but somehow you don't even entertain this idea, simply because you so desperately want your fairy tale figure to be true.

@@JacksTheater that's the deist argument that you pointed out. The theist argument is that this unmoved mover runs the universe and interferes in human affairs. There is a huge leap from deism to theism.

Lol. You are wrong. As is Sagan. Darwin did not have the scientifical facts at the time. Especially not the cambrian explosion, Einstein's relativity theory, the discovery of the DNA, the fact that time, soace and matter had a beggining, the way a cell is assembled, the mathematical calculus that shows there was not enough time for evolution to take place...

Charles Darwin: "(Since) innumerable transitional forms must have existed, why do we not find them imbedded in countless numbers in the crust of the earth?" Origin of Species, p. 162. "Why is not every geological formation and every stratum full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated organic chain: and this perhaps is the most obvious and gravest objection which can be urged against my theory." Origin of Species, p. 293.
