    Wow that brings back memories! I worked at U.S. Steel Mining Company in their Gary Coal District, until they shut down their mines in 1987. I was there to see the very last car of coal come out of the No. 14 Mine behind the big 50 ton GE locomotive. A sad day. Many great men and hard workers lost their jobs. These miners were some of the finest, kindest people in the world. I remember the eerie silence, when they turned off the big mine fan! It's hard to believe that was 34 years ago! Thank you for posting the great video!

      I was at pinnacle 50 the last week it was open. The last of the great Gary district us steel mines. An era gone but not forgotten.

      @@eddiebailey9460 hey Eddie great to hear No. 50 is back up and running. It was always a big producer with those two long walls! I guess most of the crews go in at the shaft over on Route 16 now. I knew eventually No, 50 would mine back into McDowell County. Thank you for posting the good news!

    I put over 30 yrs in the mine in western Pennsylvania. I was lucky it was all in the same mine. It was originally a Bethlehem steel mine. Later it was an R and P mine and it ended owned by Consol. After a lot of years underground I finished in the cleaning plant and lastly a mobile equipment mechanic.

      Can you help me with some terms? Terms like slope,face,tail gate,head gate gob pile and the like. I'm looking to write a book on how coal mine companies push safety to the shelf,put miners lives at risk all for the money from production.

    • @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550
      @halfwayfarmsandoutdoors3550 Před 4 lety +3

      brt 123 how do you know coal companies do that? I can say this, coal companies want to turn a profit just the same as any other company or factory. They don’t want anyone hurt or killed for a dollar!!! Any factory in the US has more safety violations than a coal mine due to the heavy regulatory standards!!
