    I keep it on all the time at it lowest power setting, and you get nice fill without that flash look. The leaf shutter makes that little flash far more powerful outside than its standard shutter counterpart camera.

      How do you set it at the lowest power?

    • @WhoIsSerafin
      @WhoIsSerafin Před rokem +9

      @@punit213
      1. Go to menu and find the flash symbol.
      2. Go to flash function setting.
      3. Put it on ttl mode.
      4. Set it to rear sync
      5. And you will see next to the letters ttl a choice between -2.0 to +2.0
      6. Set it to -2.0 and that will do quite well for indoor situations where you just need a little flash fill like if someone is wearing a hat. From there you will learn to adjust it and get better using the flash.
      6. Now the flash only works in single mode shot. And the bracket modes. Well at least film simulation mode, haven’t used the others.
      7. Also make one the buttons a dedicated flash control so you can quickly change the power output or just turn it off for certain situations.
      Hope this helps!

    To add to other commenters, the recipe is amazing and managed to trick everyone thinking its shot on actual film. The only thing I seem to notice is that it looks like lomochrome Metropolis film stock a lot, so I wonder if its possible to tone down Greens and oranges and get it looking more like flash kodak gold, if that is possible? Hahaha big up the Poundland Vista 200 and the Asda developing combo. That was all I did too. Asda charged £3.50 for developing and a CD (no prints), and that was if the roll came back full. If it only had, say 10 photos that weren't black or too dark out of the full roll, the woman would charge us around £1.50 - £2.50 (amount of visable shots depending). No more than £4.50 to shoot a roll and develop it; that shit was taken for granted haha

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks so much for your kind words!
      2 things you could do
      First, try aiming for points with contrast, for example, the edges of things, if you're trying to focus on a blank space like a big wall or something like that, it will struggle even in good light!
      Secondly, if you were still struggling you could get a single flash trigger that can fire an autofocus beam, this is typically a red laser grid that helps the camera focus. I used to have a yongnuo 622c that did this, and it was pretty handy even when i wasnt using flash! Not sure if theyre compatible with the fuji system though, this was back when i was shooting canon.
      Hope this helps!

  • @vlcheish
    @vlcheish Před rokem +1

    1:49 My observations viewing on HP Dream Color monitor; It's close for digital but it still has common digital issues on the right.
    1. Digital is crushing black/shadow detail
    2. Black/shadow on digital looks more lifeless and just black. On 35mm there is a warmness to it. On digital the entire look isn't as cohesive because you have those crushed blacks while the face has more saturated look to it and that throws things off because her hair doesn't have detail and it just black. Film has these nuances that all add up to a more cohesive picture.
    3. Highlights/skin tones are much more pleasing on film. Digital's weak point are highlights that abruptly clip and look bad as soon as anything hits white unlike film there is no gradual overload to white so it has a disadvantage of trying to mimic that bright 'on camera flash look'.
    Still looks good but one of those things where the differences are obvious once you compare to film but by itself it holds up better.

    Tried this recipe for the first time last night. worked great on my xt30ii...I don't see what difference the leaf shutter makes in this scenario as some people mentioned

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Glad to hear that! Regarding the leaf shutter - most cameras can sync flash up to around 1/250th of a second, any faster than that and the flash only fills some of the frame (much like if you've ever shot at a high shutter speed in strobe lighting) and the rest of the photo is dark, as the camera didn't finish the exposure before the flash ended (ive not explained this well I know but I hope you get what im saying).
      A leaf shutter is much faster than a 'normal' shutter so you can take flash photos with shutter speeds up to 1/1000 (I think, it may be faster) and the flash will fill the entire photo, like it should. This is great for if you want to cut out stuff like daylight, and still use the flash. You can use higher shutter speeds but still get the same amount of light added from the cameras flash.
      TL;DR slower than 1/250th of a second it wont make any difference :)

      @codyallen3729 Před 10 měsíci

      @@EddyMaynard that makes a lot of sense, I was confused since you were shooting around 1/60 in the video for the motion blur point and shoot vibes. For people's use case like this though I definitely recommend the Xt30ii (or regular...or 20) as well! I've never thought to use built in flash before on digital but now glad i have it for family snaps when it's dark.

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I have yes, used it quite a lot, it definitely retains more contrast but it’s overall a more subtle look than the pro mist! I’d say under the right situations I prefer the look of the pro mist but the Glimmerglass is more versatile and suits more situations due to its subtleness. Sometimes the pro mist is a bit too much (shooting backlit subjects in dark rooms especially)

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes, especially if you have the flash turned up like I reccommend on this video, it just needs 4-5 seconds to charge. Quite annoying but one of the limitations of a built in flash! If you got an external flash gun you wouldn’t have this issue, just for future reference :)

    Hi there, amazing shots, thanks for a great video. Might be user error but I've followed all the settings and my images come out really dark. Do you have any idea where I might have gone wrong? I've played around with the built in flash settings, as well as the SS and ISO but still no luck.

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hello! If you can DM me some examples on Instagram @eddymaynard I might be able to diagnose the issue for you, I’d be happy to take a look.
      But from the top of my head - make sure the flash is on TTL and flash exposure comp is at least +1, and make sure your subject is within 3-4 metres of the camera, it will struggle to carry the flash further than that.

      Hello! Thanks very much :) to be honest ive not really noticed a massive decrease in battery life when using the flash. Im sure there will be some, but ive found its not noticeable enough to be a problem.

    i watched this video when I owned the xe-4 now I sold it and bought the x100vi. do you shoot RAW & JPG with this recipe you created? and when I shoot raw with the recipe does it come baked in or the raw image is completly raw?

    • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I always shoot raw and jpeg yeah, often end up editing the raws!
      The stuff that stays on the raw file -
      Film sim (if you have lightroom to import with camera settings), Otherwise this can be applied in the profile drop-down menu where it usually says ‘Adobe color’
      White balance shift (obviously this can be adjusted with a raw file but it will default to the camera setting, which is helpful)
      These can both be changed, but are good to have as a starting point if you’ve shot with a recipe.
      The only thing that can’t be adjusted after is Dynamic range (DR100, DR200, DR400) as for some reason, this stays baked into the raw file

Tried turning on the red eye removal and noticed it slowed the camera down significantly. Do you have a fix for red eye that isn’t the built in removal mode? • @EddyMaynard
      @EddyMaynard  Před rokem

      sorry just seen this! I guess the only way to do it in camera without using the built in red eye would be to use an external flash. as far as I know, red eye is only an issue when the flash is too close to the lens, so using an external flash on top of the camera will definitely help
