  • I got a helmet mic, and plugged it in this time, better audio than before, no longer a volume check! Did a pull from 5000 rpm in 6th at 50 to... A very well mannered bike on the road. Better than the WR250R, not as good as the DR650 according to my BFAM who has owned them all... I agree the DR650 is sleeping on the highway, clutch out in 5th it idles at 60... well almost! The Honda doesn’t seem stressed at all, feel like it would be fine to hold it wide open indefinitely!

    Came close to selling my 300 Ralley and getting a KLR 650 because of the power factor. After sitting on a 650, I just couldn’t bring myself to sell the Ralley. It is pretty capable of 75 mph for long distances.

    Interesting what you said about having no mechanical sympathy for your bike - I had a CRF250L and I felt the same way. Not that I wanted to hurt it, or didn't care if I hurt it - it just didn't seem to mind being flogged hard. That's good engineering I think. I can't stand an engine that feels like it's going to grenade at any moment. *cough 690 cough*.

      Im always trying to stay under the blink thats 7k rpm.
      Isnt it bad for the bike driving consistent 8-9k rpm?
      It just feels not right for the engine that is why i always try to stay under the 7k before light goes blinking.

      @grindlex9  Před měsícem

      @@Andriesdemotorrijder All you need to do is stay below redline, the torque curve of the engine doesn't really reward you for shifting at redline as the power starts dropping off after 9,000, probably just faster to short shift it. The engine can handle being held wide open all day, my one buddy has over 30,000 miles on his from going all over North America, much of it going as fast as the bike can go.

      I hear you, I’m much happier on 2 lane on a little bike. I brought my TW to Cali on the back of the camper van once. We were a little south of San Francisco and wanted to head into town, I chose what I thought was a city street way, it was a 45 zone then all of the sudden it just became a freeway, and we were 2 up, super scary, I think I melted the base gasket on the cylinder redlining that thing trying not to die!

      @grindlex9  Před 3 lety +4

      It’s pretty stable, if you let go of the bars, it goes straight as an arrow. You feel a gust now and then but nothing that puts it into a tank slapper or anything, if even tried to make it unstable and it settles right back down. Thanks for the video! I'm a beginner rider and bought this bike recently. I find that the wind and sometimes a larger groove in the highway makes it feel a bit unstable. I weigh about 170lbs. Is it just me and my confidence (or lack of) as a beginner?

    • @grindlex9
      @grindlex9  Před 3 lety +1

      It takes a while to be able to trust the bike to make it through and stabilize itself. Wait until you ride sand or something, you are basically along for the ride. I haven’t really noticed any instability with mine but it might be the extra 60 lbs the bike is carrying around!

      It redlines at 10,500 cruising at 70 it’s right at 7000 rpm. It’s fine for it, you could hold it wide open mile after mile without issues. It got 66.6 mpg for the first 400 miles. I think the average is moving up slightly. At 900 miles now, last tank I went 190 on 2.9 gallons.
