  • 6/30 Day 4 - I got up at 3:30 am to hike to the south rim of Belden. I carried 4.7L of water since the climb up is a dry stretch and it was going to be a hot day. The forecast was for 88° and I wanted to beat the heat. I met two section hikers on my way up and one of them had heat exhaustion yesterday when they climbed up here. Now they're hiking back down. I was happy to be carrying the sun umbrella to provide some shade. Once on top I hike some additional miles to Cold Spring to camp. This was make my hike shorter to town the next day. I arrived about 1:30 p.m. to camp and promptly got in my tent and took a nap. Actually, I didn't get back up until 7 am the next day.
    NOBO Count: 15
    Section Hikers: 2
    Trail Crew: 6
Rose: completed the Rim to Rim of Belden. The elevation changes similar to the Grand Canyon rim to rim.
Thorn: too much uphill and bushwacking.

That was a beautiful and tough section. Are you hiking anywhere in Washington this year? I’m starting at Cascade Locks heading north on 7/20.
