I think that it is spectacular the way the league is rapidly evolving shortly after Messi's arrival. It's about time the US unstraps its football, aka (soccer) league from constraining rules that don't allow it to grow and prosper. I've always suspected that the growth of soccer in the US was limited because major leagues of other sports such as American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and others had cornered the sports market in such a way that left no room for the MLS, but I was mistaken, none of them really compete with each other, they're very different disciplines and all have unique markets. The rise of the MLS in the US is more a sign of cultural evolution, rather than market competition. The time of the MLS has arrived. May the MLS find equal or even surpass the prestige of other top world soccer leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and others. May God bless the MLS and all of its affiliates.

English English: 'turf' = grass, a living plant growing in soil with roots, microbes, etc. It converts sunlight into living material via quantum mechanical photosynthesis, so it doesn't get hot in direct sunlight.
This video: 'turf' = artificial grass you can nuy for your garden at a carpet shop. Artificial grass can look like the real thing but is laid on sterile sand. It burns when you slide on it due to friction, gets extremely hot in direct sun as the light is not converted to plant sugars, grips your boots, so twisting and turning rips your ligaments. It is sterile

Both Atlanta and Charlotte are both refusing, because they both have NFL games the next day and don't have time to convert back (remove the grass turf). Unfortunately, the NFL teams are the primary tenants and they prefer field turf (not the same as the out dated original astro turf BTW), because there have been many injuries from grass trufs deteriorating. Also they had an issue with the temporary grass in the friendly played in LA, which was probably worse condition and more dangerous than using the artificial turf. Palmeiras converted to field turf, and has reported no increase in injuries. I'll agree that grass is a better surface (if kept in good condition), but the injuries excuse is over blown.

Even real grass is used as a temporary surface due to modern stadia not allowing enough light for grass to grow. It can end up like artificial grass. It is often cultivated on a fine plastic mesh that holds it together and helps roll it up as the turf is sliced off the ground where it is grown. That mesh can catch boot studs and rip ligaments

In 1975 the then "greatest player of all time", Pelé, joined the NASL's New York Cosmos. Attendance across the league soared. With no salary cap or other financial limitations, other teams signed their own superplayers like Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Joan Cruyff. The league expanded like a supernova. All these players were over 30 and at the end of their careers. After three seasons Pelé retired in 1977. In 1984 the NASL folded.
Messi is a superlative player. I don't consider him the football GOAT (I give that title to either Cruyff or Alfredo Di Stéfano), but he is the undisputed sport superstar of this era, with the highest commercial value of any sports figure in history save Michael Jordan. But he'll be gone in 3 years and the changes this video suggests should be made to MLS rules to accommodate Messi will probably have a destabilizing effect to the League. MLS was already the most stable, most successful association football league in US history before Messi came around. And contrary to the claim made in 6:04, MLS has not stagnated. On the contrary, since 2012 (David Beckham's last year in MLS) 10 new franchises have come into the league (11 if you count LAFC), league attendance has grown, TV rights have been sold for much more money, and the value of the franchises themselves has grown considerably. MLS doesn't need Lionel Messi. Apple Inc., however, does. But that's a different story.

@@servantofgod3546 that’s just what some countries call it 🤣🤣🤣 England invented the sport and have called it both football and soccer. Other countries have different names for it but for some reason only ppl hyper fixate over the US calling it soccer…. it’s just a majority call it football or futbol but doesn’t mean you get a monopoly on different usages.

Artificial turf is amateur and if MLS is going to be a top league they need to go all grass...the one requirement for a club to join MLS should be field must be grass

the last change needs to be a relegation system and a point-based league system, to be in pair with other leagues.
MLS is called the retirement league bc it's system cannot be taken seriously outside US too.
