What free software do you use as an alternative to expensive software? Other than the tutorials we have listed in the description, let us know if you'd like a tutorial on another program... Thanks for watching :)
Hey just a question is there an alternative to audacity since there is a rumor i heard about spywares on audacity 3.0 and onwards
choochoo real Audacity is NOT spyware. This was erroneously reported by those who have no idea what they're talking about. arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/07/no-open-source-audacity-audio-editor-is-not-spyware/
I knew 6 of the software on this list for the last five years, used them for my Bachelor's Thesis. Also, an avid Linux user, on Manjaro Linux.
Hey Man you missed Pixalr A free versoin of Photoshop
@@BrettInTech Knew about handbrake for years { without yet having to use it } 👨💼🤳🇦🇺
That face you make when you realize you use all the free alternatives mentioned.
Zorin is free ?
@@kilvbz988, Zorin (15.3 is the latest I know about) has a free and paid option. The only difference I could see is that there are more desktop layout options in the paid version. (Plus you're helping support the developers.)
That face you make when you realise you use most of the paid programs mentioned but its pirated lol
I literally was now about to say I use every single one of the software he recommends, even surprised he said Davinci Resolve since that's proprietary.

Using these free programs is also a good way to test the waters of trying to switch to linux. Get used to using the programs on an OS you already know, then if you decide to ditch Windows, it will make the transition so much smoother. Instead of trying to learn new programs on top of trying to learn a whole new OS, which on it's own is a BIG learning curve.
This is very helpful video.
Thanks for the research you did on behalf of us. Must watch for students. Lots of utility tools are covered. Good job👍
THANK YOU for all of this!! It is much appreciated!!
Why would you ever pay for screen recording software when OBS is so good
User friendliness. Something like action is awesome considering steam version being dirt cheap
@@voqz6667 OBS is one of the easiest open source software I've ever used. It's pretty intuitive to get it to work, And if you're not sure what a control does it's probably best just to not change it. The average person can get by without having to know how to change the bitrate, and if they do need to it's pretty easy to do
@@charlesdoesmore5488 thats probably because of all the bells and whistles that come with it if you want to use it to full potential then yea it could get complicated
or nvidia experience
Whatever anyone says, the best feature of OBS is not its screen recording but it's virtual camera.
*Cheating in online exams go brrrr*
This is very much needed. Thank you so much!!
great info! Thank You MUCH!
Many thanks, always worth dropping in....
Very nice of you to list free and useful softwares, alternatives to giants. Thank you
Thanks for that. Certainly one or two new ones to check out
Thank you. A great deal of time must have been spent reviewing all these application and putting this together.
As always, a great, useful video with no verbiage.
This was a great video. Thanks. keep it up.
Thank you very much. Great information.
I appreciate your work! :)
TY :-) you keep it simple and to the point, whilst saving people lots of money to spend on other more important things!
Thanks for the usefull and free info :)
This is a very well-put-together information video in 9 minutes thanks for uploading.
Thanks for providing very Informative video.
Thanks for putting this video up, I just cant justify renting software every month or pay a huge premium just to be a hobbyist.
I have subscribed you now and your new video come.
That's Great
Its great and I like witu every content to my idea thanks so much
Thanks for the info
Thank you this helps a lot
Thank you for your efforts and good heart
Thanks for your effort
🌼 Well appreciated! Gracias!
👍🏼 Always helpful! Your audio sounds more "lively" on this -- new mic or bigger room or....? 🤔
I agree about Ubuntu but Audacity is great?
0:00 - Hi TG. 👋
9:28 - 1151st thumbs up from me. 👍 Cheers.
Well done and good list.
I have already been using nearly all of them but thank you for pointing out Darktable. Totally new to me.
I personally do not mind a reasonably priced piece of software. But I REFUSE... absolutely REFUSE to use a subscription model.
That goes for games as well.. I REFUSE to rent my software. To me it is like buying a book but I have to pay again if I set it down for a couple months and decides to pick it up again later. Dumbest idea ever and you are a fool if you pay for such a thing.
Hey TechGumbo!
For years I have been using what you suggest and never have I had an issue, many thx! ;)
Linux is always seen as the "cheap version" of operating systems. But it is more than that. Linux is OPEN. Everything about the OS is public, documented and editable and this makes Linux distro's potential infinite. Also unlike Microsoft or Apple their scope is not to make money, but users happy.
With Linux you will never have to worry about a new OS, that yours won't be supported anymore and so you have to buy a new PC because it does not support TPM 2.0.
Preach, brother, preach!
Repurpose the hardware and save our planet. Wake up and get up, people! Apple and Microsoft had their day. They did a solid. Now Let's make the necessities accessible to all. What say you? [the only problem are the cockroaches, that are everywhere and into everything today]
so is it advisable to switch from Windows to Linux?
@@broimthuggin286, in most cases, yes. However, research the topic profusely before attempting, given there are fields of work heavily dependant on programs and drivers meant for Windows, fields such as audio and civic engineering, and architecture.
Also, keep in mind Linux is not "Windows, but...", it has its own paradigm and philosophy.
@@broimthuggin286 I'd try it in a VM first.
Windows and MacOs is about the user and their apps, you don't need to tinker with the OS to get your work done, and your apps won't suddenly break and stop working when the OS gets patched. Linux focuses on the OS, Mac and Windows focuses on the user and that's why they are the most popular desktops.
Great video bro..
Thank you Techgumbo this helped me
Superb video 👏🙏💐
I've been using OBS studio since 2 months, It very good 🔥
GREAT video.
do you have any alternative for video scribe or whiteboard animation software
Very good list
GIMP is awesome! I love the same functionality it has as Photoshop. And of course how could I forget about Blender, LibreOffice, FreeCad, Octave GNU and I'm sure I'm forgetting others.
I recently started using DaVinci Resolve and can confirm it is a VERY nice program. The video preview is butter smooth at full quality, no pre-rendering necessary, you can scrub through the video (even frame-by-frame if you want) (or backwards) ..WITH sound, and when you cut a section of video it automatically moves the remaining video over to the end of the previous clip, saving you precious time. The effects presets are damn nice too, you can apply a bunch of them and it won't slow the preview down at all, and it comes with some seriously sleek title presets. All-in-all a very recommendable program. I'm honestly surprised it's free
"you can apply a bunch of them and it won't slow the preview down at all, " I just remembered who you are. Hope you are feeling better.
i use obs studio for screen recording, blender for 3d animating, gimp for secondary texturing, handbrake for compressing, inkscape for vector files, and even audacity for audio editing software. i use an video editing software called vegas pro which it's price is very expensive like it cost 500 to 700 dollars.
@@ChichaGad Piracy? But I don't even have a boat.
You wouldn't download a car..... a boat however. RRRRRR Matey!
I read newer versions of audacity spy for google.
I would really like to see GIMP completely overhaul the text tool. Any effects you add to a text layer, or place text on a path, will take away editing. You have to make absolutely sure it is the typeface/font you want to use, is completely spelled correctly, etc., or you will have to go back and essentially start over on your text. When even online editors can get that at least partially done, you have a HUGE problem to correct.
When it comes to screen shooting Greenshot is ace and it can edits shots and drop them straight into MS Office apps it’s brilliant
bro where have u been, it is so cool
Realy I like this video so much
Would be great if you did one of these for newbies.... I dont even know what exactly each would do, and why they are not doing many of the same things.... just a thought
Yea, other than creating a virtual box how would i switch out OS s. I currently have windows 11 on one and 10 on the other
Very interesting, is there a program to replace publisher
Thanks you sir.
How about "Format factory" ? I have been using it for all types for media file format conversion ....
also "photopea" exact duplicate of PhotoShop ....runs on a browser... no need to install any software.
thank you from a computer user with a strict budget!!!!!
Do you know of any software that is a Quicken alternative? Perhaps one that opens Quicken files?
any best open source backup with centralized management for windows workstations.
Cant believe i nearly use all the free alternatives listed in this video lol!
Thank you for gimp software
Great video
I use arch btw
BandiCam and BandiCut are nice FOC software that I use a lot ... ITs very easy to use. PhotoScape is the other software that is very easy to use and is FOC as well
Thanks
Bro, thx!
How does GIMP compare with Photopea? Has anyone used both?
for recording games... i use medal
it doesn't affect the system performance like obs...
one problem i had with medal was it didn't worked on windows 8.1 for me... so i used outplayed to record...
Can you help me find an alternative software for AutoCAD civil
If you install Ventoy to a flash drive you can add as many ISO files as it can hold. I use this method to try out different operating systems. Eliminates the need for VM ware like Sandbox.
nice video.
What is the best autocad alternative?
i'm using Linux since 1998, my First distribution was Debian, before this, i had BeOS 3.1 on my PC .. but with the early Version of the Gimp, i've started to do my Desktop Wallpaper creation .
Does anyone know how to install JW Library on MacBook Air? IMazing aint working anymore. Thanks for the help
cool video on free applications! Thanks for the tips. Any good alternatives to Acrobat (i.e., a good free pdf editor)?
DeftPDF
LibreOffice
Inkscape
Scribus
Photopea etc,.
PDF-XChange Editor: Is very good
Which DTP software do you recommend?
And just to to blow everyone's mind, I use Photo Editor 3.0 (from Windows 98) to help make transparent backgrounds.
At 1:30 - Ever try of Photopea site? At 5:40 - Both Nvidia and AMD GPU drivers can record (and even stream).
Nice
With LibreOffice, you can edit and create PDF. That is good.
The paid version of Davinci is US$299, and includes free lifetime upgrades.
Blender is an awesome program, though its onboard video editor is subpar. I would use it only for testing. Tends to be a little crash-happy, so always save. If you are doing animation with it, render it one-frame-at-a-time as to avoid hassles when it crashes.
People either love or hate GIMP, with little in-between. There used to be add-ons available that would improve the drawing characteristics of it, and you used to be able to do animations in it. (nothing complex, more GIF like than anything).
Any good CAD software out there?
Hmm I think there is only AutoCAD which is paid. I'll let you know if any free ones are good.
My alternative to 'Adobe' is 'Foxit' I've been using the free version for a little over 2-yrs. Thank you and I like your Videos.
You may try the Shutter encoder.
Any good Adobe acrobat alternative where we can edit pdf the same way???
LibreOffice Draw or Inkscape are good options if you want to edit PDFs. Both programs allow you to do alot more than just edit PDFs too so there is no need to have a separate application just for PDF edits.
Gimp is half decent but it gets the job done. Still taking me time to get used to it
Can you do an iOS version of this unless you allready have it?
Thnkz for sharing man.✌
As a free video editor I miss OpenShot. I use that now and than, and it just does the job. I also have Davinci Resolve, but somehow the learning curve is higher, for people like me whom only need to do editing occasionally. O, and OBS, I really love it for live streaming.
But I bet ther is more out there free stuff. But, thanks for the video!!
KRITA IS AWESOME!!
I bought An iPad not realizing there are no programs for it-can you recommend alternatives for an iPad? I need an alternative for Amazon’s DS quick view and amazon suggestion expander for KDP research otherwise I will need to buy another computer!!!
VMware Virtualization Alternative. How about Hyper-V and Ubuntu, Kali, Microsoft Windows.
any good Adobe Acrobat alternative? I mean you can use your browser to load pdf files fairly quickly but I don't know a good free alternative for Adobe Acrobat to edit pdf files
Foxit is pretty good
Xodo is pretty good.
LibreOffice Draw can help you edit PDF files, I personally use it
PDF XChange Editor
I use Apple’s Pages, Keynote, iMovie & Garage Band which are free if you use a Mac 🖥 … in fact I prefer them to MS 360.
I also use Google’s office tools.
Enve 2D for motion graphics instead of Adobe AE...
I have question.. mostly client wants p.sd file ..ai files
So then what should we do?can ask him we only give gimp file?
GIMP can read and save PSD files
Please a video about Free alternatives to Acrobat DC
So what is the cheapest route to CAD/CAM? I'm about to get busy.
try LibreCAD
The dislike is from person (later people) who can afford and use the expensive software
The free alternatives suck its not because they can afford it stop assuming
@@smartninja3651 I both agree and disagree dude
@@JBarista08 I mean I guess it could ALSObe that
Kdenlive for video editing is also good.
any alternatives to adobe acrobat? i need a good free pdf editor
Shutter Encoder is a video converter I just started using
There's also WPS office for office 365 alternative.
How many free apps don't require internet 'updates'? When you are prepared to pay for software rather than sharing your data, what is available?
As a teacher I've been looking for a free alternative to notability. What am I calling where's my I don't have a Mac and I don't have that much money. Since I also teach a film class sometimes I've been looking for alternatives to final draft.
Top suggestions
But, what I need is an alternative to Autocad.
Don't even mind paying a bit..
Cheers
the only thing that keep me of getting full on linux is the lack of support for videogames...(I know about ALL the projects for emulation and native running games on it but still very far off what "wintendo" can do)
