Very awesome that you honored Jeff Vollmer
Tough one Mr. Keyes at 4:20. Losing any Ski sucks, but watching the big ones swim away haunt your dreams! I feel for you. Met you and Dave at the Minnesota Musky Expo. You guys are both very genuine Musky guys. Had a good talk with both you and Dave. Awesome footage as usual. Can't wait to throw some baits!!! Hope you get the BIG ONE this season!
Robert Prevost thanks a lot and ha me for watching
One of my favorite childhood memories are being at Polly's resort. One of the original old fashioned resorts up on Lake Vermillion. About age 11 I was so excited to catch a northern off the dock...it was a tiny one no longer than 14 inches lol!! Love that part of the state. My gramma lived up there.
Great show guys! Great fish! So close to open water!
Water and Ice Outdoors thanks for watching.

heck yea musky Dan, great guide
Stop it! I wanna get out and fish already! Excellent episode gentlemen and thanks for the tips.
Nick Ploussard us to. Thanks for watching.
Just tuned in, first fish in Everett's Bay, bummer you lost it.
Dan Larson thanks for watching.
I can't help but notice a common trend among musky anglers that continues to allow big fish to get away. They are setting their drags WAY too tightly! With modern braids there's almost no stretch in our lines now and the fish pretty much set the hook the moment they grab a hold of the bait and headshake. What most anglers fail to realize is that the majority of star drag systems on their baitcasting reels don't actually release the drag pressure if they back off the drag under pressure from the fish! The drags will only actually release once that tension on the line is gone. I see it time and time again in videos and have seen it in real life on occasion.
they have the drag very tight because musky die easier than some fish and they want to get them in the boat and release them as fast as possible
Lake Vermilion's best days are long gone. Super low denisty population, heavy fishing pressure, and poor management due to political issues in Minnesota. I've spent alot of money and 3 seperate trips totalling almost a month fishing time and nothing but bass, 2 fingerling skis and a few big pike to show for it. I can drive half the distance and put musky in the boat almost daily on Wisconsin Flowages.
My family has a place on vermilion and i completely agree with this. There are some absolute monsters in there, in my opinion state record class fish, but the low density and extremely high pressure makes getting anything besides follows very difficult. I have spent so much time chasing skis on this lake and have raised multiple fish over 50" but have only hooked small ones. After spending a lot of time on this lake, I have switched over to almost exclusively targeting bass, mostly largemouth. The largemouth fishery on V is absolutely incredible and i can go weeks without seeing others specifically targeting them. I personally have never gotten over 6lbs, but I have seen multiple caught in the 7-8lbs range. I honestly think the next state record could come out of here. If you are ever up there and the muskys arent cooperating, try going to the back of the big bays and fishing the heavy cover or docks for largemouth. Some of the hardest fighting bass I have caught in my life, and you will have it all to yourself.
Im glad i got to experience Lake Vermillian 40 years ago as a kid at my relatives old fashioned resort Polly's before the area got taken over by wealthy resorts. Those were the good old days. Id still rather stay at Pollys than an expensive resort
Had a Minn-Kota Genesis on my boat when I bought it, took 5 years for Vermilion in November to finally destroy it, Auto deploy etc is great for August, not for November, never again. I don't mess around with the early fall, or mid fall bite anymore, just come up right before the ice. If you ain't snagging Tullie's, you might (MIGHT) have an OK trip, but you have to suffer to have a GREAT TRIP.... Two magical days... czcams.com/video/LlDmlgLRqLw/video.html
Dan Larson yikes!!! Thanks for watching
