Because it's the 80s! Every serious film ended with a - usually - music written for the film, the end was said under the title until you left the cinema, it raised your adrenaline level to infinity, accompanied you, unlocked the experience to infinity! Anyone who didn't live in the 80s will never understand how it felt to hear We Fight for Love at the end of Commando, or a Brave New Love at the end of The blob! You left the cinema and felt that you had seen something incredibly good, something special! But there is the end of Mannequin, or rather the end of Friday the 13th VI. What a blow! I remember people stopping when they heard the song at the end! It was a legendary ending, you knew Jason was alive, you knew it because Alice Cooper was back! (Man behind the mask song). I am lucky to have been young in the 80s! I could see legendary cinemas, today's movies are just crappy copies of them! The 80s were the pinnacle of pop culture, the standard!
I watched this thinking Edgar was jealous of Miles over the affection of Madeline, as they were both falling in love with her. I think it’s beautiful that Edgar actually loved Miles the entire time and only wanted him to be happy. Love is give and not take. Wonderful story
Yeah, I'm not sure that's quite right. I'm not certain, but I think Edgar was jealous of Miles as you said. But he (Edgar) was able to be magnanimous enough to bow out. We'd have to ask the writer--Rusty Lemorande. There is lasciviousness, which is selfish love, and then there is the more magnanimous love, which is able to give and not just take. LOL
I always loved this movie. It captured the fantasy of what we all thought computers would do in the future (as cheesy as that may seem). It made computers seem fun, amazing and scary too. The 80’s were a lot of fun and this sweet love story came around when the world was still innocent and relatively safe. The music just adds to the energy of the movie and the happy ending. We don’t have enough movies like this now. Everything has to be violent, sarcastic or dark/depressing now.
@@fabiandimaspratamathesecond And unfortunately…. COVID. My daughter and her friends have such a bleak outlook on the world and these are all kids from prosperous families. @@MasterJediDude Of course COVID does. COVID really ruined the prospect of me and many people at my age of ever getting a good job in the future. Not even 6 months of job searching, COVID broke out at March 2020. Never experienced job searching as a freshgraduate properly. Many businesses (especially in service & tourism sector) going downhill, recruitments were freezed, job fairs cancelled, employees got fired, and new graduates came in every months. My country declared recession 2020-2021 and unemployment skyrocketing. Job governments were not opened in 2020 and openings are reduced since 2021 because of the limited budget that our government has (yet it insists to build a costly new capital). I'm from the 90s but I love the song Together in Electric Dreams a LOT, so I just finished watching this movie today for the first time. Damn, there is something beautiful with the 80s that the current generation can never compare.
That's called being a human being. I love old this soundtrack growing up and would listen to it over and over, but I couldn't bear to watch the movie more than once, cause I liked the computer more than the humans.
I have an odd emotional connection to this movie. Not only was I fascinated with early computer technology at the time, but was also going through some very traumatic times (deaths of loved ones). Somehow those emotions became intermingled with the feels and music of this movie, and several scenes including the end literally make tears come out of nowhere. I guess Edgar explained it well when he tried to explain how he felt when he composed the music, "It came from deep inside of me".
It's Friday here, around 7:42PM in TN. Im a little drunk. I think back to when I was young and I would watch my VHS collection. Electric Dreams was a typical Thursday, I would watch this every week. This movie was a memory in my young mind. I watched it 35 years ago and was sad at the end. But my young mind didn't understand completely. I always remember a computer movie where it blows up. Thankyou YT once again
It's not just this song and this scene. The whole movie, Electric Dreams, shows how a movie uses music to tell a story. Made a video series explaining how.
Thanks for adding the end-of-credits Easter Egg to the end of the clip. I think it was the first one I ever saw in a film. This song still makes me choke up a little.

Now she has a boyfriend where she lives now, and she's completely forgotten about me. 1/10/19 was probably the last time I've ever going to hear from her again.
This movie and its message lives within you. It’s sad that this one relationship ended, but one of the things I took not only from the movie but from life is that painful things happen, and we gotta find a way to move through them. I sincerely hope that you’re feeling better about this. Many warm wishes sent your way.

Even 12-year-old me in 1984 knew that a lot of the technology depicted in this movie was laughable, but it was a cute movie. For anyone wondering, it's impossible to send high voltage through telephone lines. They are low voltage, and it doesn't matter what is connecting to them on the other end. (Imagine if you could simply call people and electrocute them when they answer! Not good!) Similarly, radio stations in 1984 were mostly manually fed the music they were playing (such as records or cassettes), so it would have been impossible to force all stations to play the same song. I suppose you could say Edgar somehow was able to hijack all of the broadcasting frequencies (though it's not clear how), but then the radio DJs themselves wouldn't notice, and would believe their own music was actually playing. And then of course, there's the matter of Edgar himself becoming sentient because champagne was spilled on his keyboard, but we won't even touch this one. BTW, Virginia Madsen, who was well cast in this role, has a brother named Michael who also acts, and mainly plays bad guys. Michael won't see any of her movies which contain love scenes, because it grosses him out!
Of course none of this could happen in real life, but that's kind of the point - it's a fantasy film. I mean, for that matter, Superman doesn't really fly and Middle-earth doesn't exist, but they take us to another world where our dreams do come true.
