my dad is 53. when he was maybe like 4 or 5, he always heard autobahn on the radio, and this was the first time he saw the song live after like 50 years. amazing experience.
It's good to see Kraftwerk playing at Disney Concert Hall of all places. There does seem to be a whole lot of empty seats going free there though so I don't know if it hadn't been that well advertised or if it's just a popularity thing. Living in London, I'm not aware of how successful they've been in the States. In Europe their shows will always sell out within days. Even though I think there is only one original member left in the line up but the music & show itself is always a thouroghly entertaining spectacle of sound & vision. It's not like they really have to do much, the soundtrack & stunning visuals are all programmed in advance so they just have to press play & turn up. Over the years it's been quite customary for the first half of the concert to have robots at the controls anyway, which is fine cos that's what the group are all about. Their music is timeless so will always sound new & relevant to people of any age around the world, especially to those who love their electronic music. There is enough material to program a show forever even after they are all long gone & new guys will have to put the dayglow suits on. Just like Abba are doing now with their CJ 'Visitors' show. That show will play forever around the world to new audiences even after they are all long gone too. If the music is good then there will always be an audience wanting to to see it, which is great. I first got into Kraftwerk in '75 when Autobahn came out. I was 14 & it was like nothing else I'd ever heard before but I freekin' loved it. I'm 64 now & still adore it all. In the UK it reached no 11 in the Spring of '75 & I've followed their career ever since. My mother was from Berlin & from when I was about 10 she would drive us there to visit her mum. I would be sleeping in the back seat of the car as we drove for hours along the autobahns to get to Berlin & the car sounds were exactly like on the record & so were already implanted in my brain. When I played her the single that I'd bought, under headphones, she couldn't believe what she was hearing & became a fan too. Brilliant huh? We didn't have computers or mobile phones back then so you used your imagination to enjoy the futureistic, stereophonic sounds visually. A new LP was an event because they didn't come that often either but you knew it would be even better than the last one. It wasn't until '81 that they had their first & only no 1 in the UK with 'The Model'. New product tapered off in the new century but their music will always captivate new ears of any age in the future as long as they get to hear it. Over the years they've released a few official dvds of some concerts that are all brilliant & available on CZcams. Now there are gigs from people all over the world to see & enjoy, just like yours, although you can't beat the actual 'live' experience. If you love Kraftwerk it's definately worth hunting out material from the ex-members who have all produced really great music since too, all with the same electronic sound of Kraftwerk. No. With my videos you dont just get the show, you get every single detail of the theater, i zoom in on each person in the theater too so you know whos there. This isnt a video its an experience. If you dont like it, fuck you
