- In this vide we will check claims of accuracy and expansion at over 1,000 yards. We record velocity and impact as well as recovery of the projectile. Using the information collected, here is some of the Terminal Ascent data:
Environment - 6,625 ft above sea level, 85*F, 5 mph left to right wind
Muzzle - Velocity 3,000 fps, Energy 3,398 ft.-lb.
At impact of 1,033 yards - Velocity 1,974 fps, Energy 1,471 ft.-lb.
I just love how the terminal ascent looks
You hit a house fly at 1033 yards. Luck or not that was AWESOME!!
With this load in my 7prc, I’m getting avg 2981fps (22” barrel) 0.75-0.90” groups @100yds. Load worked fantastic on my black bear this spring. Complete pass thru frontal diagonally across and exited rear (60 yds shot) Bear ran ~ 50 yds before piling up. I’m very impressed with its performance.
Best bullet ever made
Facts
great work. i just picked up a 7 prc, love it.
That is impressive mushrooms
Cool video dude.. thanks for the information..
The amount of shots you had to take, is exactly why it's not an ethical hunting distance
I 100% agree. However, I will say I’m a novice at long distance shots past 600 yards.
Maybe not for him
It has nothing to distance and everything to do with the skill of the shooter and quality of his/her ammunition......I mad many kills from 1100 yard and under but I shoot thousands of round per year in practice I also don't screw with factory ammo.
@@stephenferguson6363 as much as I believe in a shooters skill, at 1100 yards I would think it has more to do with time to target and movement of said target. At 1100 you are talking about 1.5 seconds of flight time on a moving target. That target moving is an uncontrolled variable I wouldn’t take a chance on. Finally, living in the mountains and being out of shape, there’s no way I’d want to pack out game from that far out.
@3RBallistics I live and hunt in northern bc I spend about 70% of my time chasing mnt goats the rest hunting elk, mule deer, moose and stone sheep. 1km can definitely mean some real nasty terrain differences lol for sure but we also have drainage measured in 10s of kms or more im used to paying out game a very very longs ways.
Great video😊
Love my 20inch barrel 7prc with a can
Great video! Have you been following Little Crow Gun Werks 7mm series’s? I think it’s great.
Again good job! I for myself, think I should stay at 600 yards for hunting.
Just picked up a browning xbolt in 7PRC. Gonna have to try these rounds to see if the gun likes them.
I got an x bolt in 7prc my gun loves them 0.5 inch groups strange thing is had to put a whole box through it and clean twice before it would group
I shot two of my 7PRCs yesterday. Stopped by a local store and they had 2 boxes of the Terminal Ascent but I just couldn't bring myself to buy it at $67/box. Especially since I handload. I may reconsider. Going back to the range in a bit to shoot one of them again and that store is on the way
I also shot the Federal ELDX ammo in both yesterday. One was decent at MOA the other didn't like it at all. I did get lucky with my Tikka 7PRC as it has now shot five 3 shot groups all half MOA with factory Hornady 160 CX Outfitter ammo. Good thing too because i bought 3 cases for a steal on auction
Those Fed TA are amazing
Yes please try Berger 180 VLD, Hornady ELDX and Hornady ELDM since I hear a lot that those match grade bullets open fine and work well in hunting. I did kill a deer last season with my 7PRC and ELDM factory ammo
I will say the Fed Terminal Ascent surprised me. After 15 shots it had a standard deviation of 12 and an extreme spread of 37.7. Average velocity was 3003.2 fps.
I’ll see how soon I can get back out there to test those other factory loads.
Shot a village of flies back in desert storm with a browning 50.. still dont sleep at night
I use the 130 in my 6.5 and its the best rounds ive found atleast for mine, but mainly performance on deer
my anxiety at the garmin just barely hanging on the edge!!!!
If it makes you feel better, the very next shot after the cameras went out, it fell off the table. Luckily those things are built well.
Yes on both eld x loads
Do the same test with the Eldx
Im running the 180 eldm out of my 7mm prc with n560 2857 es of 13 sd of 6.6 for 8 shots
Why Not A Better cartridge like the 7 Mag?
Thanks for your video could you please do the federal 175 grain eld-x looks like you're in New Mexico Aurora Arizona just curious
Yep, the ranch is in New Mexico 👍
Nice im in hobbs,nm i use to live in Capitan Nm for8 yrs
What kind of groups are you getting with that ruger 7 prc at 100 yds?
I have a video out on this but I believe I was getting something around 1” - 0.8” groups. I will admit that I feel the rifle can do better and I’m more to blame for the groups I got in the video.
Try Some Barnes Bullets’s?
What barrel length were you shooting?
The Ruger American Go Wild with a 24” barrel
The 7mm rem mag will do the same with the same bullet and you will even get more about 100fps more or better
I also have a 7mm rem mag but do not get those velocities out of the 180gr Berger VLD match. I’m usually around 2800fps. I do get faster velocities out of the 140gr bullets but then we aren’t really comparing the same bullets.
Reloader 26 is your best friend ‘ it probably would do good in that 7prc also but it already looks very good
Not Factory loaded for sure due to bullet length and needing to stay in SAAMI spec. Also, Federal loads a 155gr TA in 7rem and it only gets 3000fps....The 160gr Trophy Bonded is going 2900fps and a Berger Hybrid 168 gr is 2870 FPS. You would be pushing that 7mm Rem REAL hard to get 3000fps let alone 3100fps out of a 170gr.
@@malcolmdennis503 Terminal Ascent 155gr max load is 71.2 gr of RL26...It is rated right at 3100fps and it is a compressed load. No chance you are loading that 170gr TA and pushing it 3100fps out of a 7rem.
@@wcb5890 I get 3090fps with a 180 gr Berger VLD., 72 gr of Retumbo, federal 215 primer., Remington brass. 1-9” twist Brux barrel 25”. COAL 3.47575”. I shot through two chronographs and a lab radar at the same time. They were all within a few feet on every shot and no signs of pressure. It can be done.
These bullets are amazing best made been telling clowns on you tube for months these rounds would get 3k per second 😊
