Matt, it was great you fought your need to get to point B because the kindness they show you fills those of us that watch your video with their warm kindness in us (their kindness to you makes it feel like their kindness to us). Sorry about the detours, but if it is any consolation we who watch the video enjoy how you convert things back to your theme of JaYoe. It inspires me to do the same.

I live vicariously through these vlogs which I know is a substitute but I tell you , they inspire and spread joy.

Yup, Hokkaido is famous for whiskey in Japan. I visited "Nikka Whisky Distilling" [1] founded by Masataka Taketsuru [2] when I was in Hokkaido. In Japan it became famous because of the TV drama based on his life [3].

thank god you decided to stop for noodles. The trip should be about more then miles under the belt. Its about the journey, things you see, people you meet, cool things you do. Don't trike around the world get home an then think "Damn I should have...... when I was there" Take the time an enjoy every moment of each location you are in. The road will still be there.

It is kind of weird to hear traditonal Japanese ramen, because ramen in JP has less than 100 hundred years history, mostly after WWII. And ramen is not real ‘拉面' (stretched noodle), although it takes the exact pronouciation.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramen
Anyway, JP ramen tastes good as a food. JP people are nice along your way. Jayoe

Hi there Matt. There's something that has been bothering me for a long time about your pedals. Since you don't ride using cleats in your shoes, why aren't you using platform pedals instead of the ones that your using now ???. I recommend that you change them as soon as possible. Mark Wroe.

  • @driewiel

Until translators are at perfect English Star Trek level 'Can I eat your noodles' may come out differently.
Pretty hard day leaving you (and us) in the dark! Motorways are so often obstacles for cyclists.
BTW. Giving presents seems to be a Japanese custom. I once read it is impolite to unpack a birthday present till you are home. So the person giving it to you won't notice any disappointment on your face if you don't like it.
Maybe you can try find out where this giving presents custom originates from?
And I wonder if the Japanese police would also give you a present if you are forced to go stealth camping?

Dude, you should enjoy everything on your way, not just try to get distance and scene. You need to install an Electric motor to assist you when needed, like this moment after you ate that noodle you Should not pedle hard right away because your body still enjoying the Ramen noodle. Japan have the best noodle in the world and South Korean. Be the Professional Ramen eater: first use the spoon and sip a spoon of soup first, then eat some noodle, then small bite each of others in the bow.
You can also add some solar panel on your tail cargo or make solar roof/hood to protect you from the sun and charge at the same time. Japan's mountain and view are awsome to see.
