Thank U Dave Thomas! For Doing this great story on chefs restaurant! I loved it… great memories
Grew up watching Dave every morning... amazing to see him again
I grew up watching Rocketship 7 too and loved Dave Thomas. Such a kind and lovely man. I've been away from Buffalo for a long time but have been homesick for years now. I hope to move back to the area in the next year or so. I hope the people in Buffalo and the Western NY area appreciate how special they are. I've lived all over the country, but nowhere else have I found the friendly and neighborly people I knew growing up in the Buffalo area. I've been binge watching David in the Bones series and got such a kick out of how they inserted Rocketship 7 and his Dad into one of the episodes. What a great video and a nostalgic visit to my childhood. Thank you.
I loved watching Rocketship 7 when I was little!
I love all the hockey pictures in the background on the wall. I want David to talk about those. I bet he could tell a story about every photo hanging on the wall.
Wow- Chef's and Dave Thomas! Two Buffalo legends. Rocketship 7 was great- so much fun. Italian is the best cuisine on Earth, and Chef's is just about the best restaurant serving it. You DO feel like family when you walk in. And you feel FULL when you waddle out! Bless Dave Thomas and all the people involved at Chef's. Class acts.
When the elder Dave moved to Philadelphia in the 70s, there already a 'Thomas' (Lisa Thomas-Laury) at that station, so he changed his professional surname to 'Roberts,' which he also registered with the Screen Actors' Guild.
Shirley was our waitress a couple weeks ago!!! Such a sweetheart!!
Rocketship 7 was also immensely popular in Southern Ontario. Mr. Thomas once recalled being invited to visit Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto. When he was crossing the border into Canada the customs guard asked him he was bringing anything into Canada. Mr. Thomas showed him the Promo the Robot costume in the back. The custom's agent was so excited he called all the other guards over as they had all watched Rocketship 7 and wanted to meet Mr. Thomas and take pictures with him
Love you Dave Thomas ! God Bless!
The last time I saw Dave Thomas and Nolan Johannes was in Scranton PA in 1982. They were reporting on a "sting" that I may or may not have been involved in. My friend Nicole RIP from Niagara Falls and another friend Carla, RIP from Brooklyn mooned them as we walked out of the courthouse. It was hilarious. 😆 😆 I'm 62 now so that part of my life is long over. Thank God. BTW: Rocketship 7 rocked. ❤️
I showed my Grandfather what the big spoon was for, and he was astounded !!
Our Commander of the Rocketship 7. Dave Thomas.
Dave lived in Clarence, and i lived a street over from him, i remember seeing him through the door when we went to his house on halloween
very neat video. enjoyed it.
Rocketship 7 was the morning program to watch , while having breakfast , before going to school.
Dave looks great!!
Still as handsome and friendly and nice as ever - there are at least half a million big smooshy hugs awaiting you in WKBW territory ! You had 'Promo The Robot,' and Commander Tom had 'Cecily Fripple' - I fall off my chair laughing, even now
WOW! Where one originally had to enter now holds an *al fresco* table.
David!eternamente David!
2:11... I'm now thinking of the end part of the old *GET SMART* theme intro.
Rocketship 7 remained popular right up until 1978--although Mr. Thomas moved on to Philadelphia (aka Dave "Roberts") it essentially was ABC that led to the show's demise. ABC had begun Good Morning America in 1975 and by 1977 was putting pressure on all of its affiliates (including WKBW-TV in Buffalo) to start carrying the show. Rocketship 7 used to run from 7-9 AM and agreed to cut back to one hour (7-8 AM) to allow GMA to have the 8AM hour. However, ABC demanded that they carry the entire 2 hours. WKBW tried to put Rocketship 7 on at 6-7 AM but it simply didn't work out and then Mr. Thomas left in 1978 and the show simply died
