In my opinion one of the things that allow to make Ayreon so good is that it's not a band, the only way i know how to refer to it is a "musical project". It's like an All-Stars thing, borrowing so much talent from all over the place.
People comment on every other line, but "Back to when we had no plan" is the one that resonates for me. You can't fix things by going back to a state of irresponsibility and ignorance again. You can't run from cause-and-effect.

I wrote an entire RPG campaign to this music when the old dwindling master race created a new one to succeed them. This is how the Eldar (the new race) came alive. The old ones edited their genes and became their gods. Warhammer40k universe by the way. Perfectly fits. Every sentence.
I'm not sure if I can even try to write anything about this song, there are just so many different wow moments in this one, Daniel GIldenlow singing in his unique way, Hansi's part in this song is maybe the best Hansi vocal melody in Ayreon for me with that instrumental rhythm at that exact moment matching incredibly, and what a Chorus too, and basically everything else about this song. The guitar at 0:20 reminds me of Tunnel of Light
I only recently discovered Ayreon and am happy about it. Slowly listening into his discrography and buying albums as I go along the way :) Got The Source, The Human Equation + Theater Equation and The Theory of Everything so far. Thinking of Final Experiment or 01011001 next :)
