  • OC - Lakewood - New Jersey - 135 E Kennedy Blvd. - Two Alarms - BOX 11
    Around 1:19 PM Lakewood Police received a phone call for a fire. The caller reported smoke from the apt building, he tried to make entry but the smoke was too heavy he stated that he saw food on the stove to PD. After that, he exited the Apt and called 911. Shortly after PD arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the building. C-1 then requested the BOX be upgraded to a working fire assignment. L-5 was first due with smoke showing from stories 1 & 2. E-5 was lying in from a hydrant down the road, they had a short lay but made do with tank water and knocked most of the fire while stretching a 1.3/4 line into the front door. C-1 then upgraded the fire to a second alarm due to the closest hydrant being frozen, while E-5 was short on the lay in they had no water supply established. Shortly after a water supply was established by E-5 & E-2. L-5 was on ventilation. Fire from the D side was venting out the windows while E-2 stretched a 1.3/4 line to the D side to suppress the fire. Freezing conditions are around 22 degrees. Crews operated for around 2 hours and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

    It sucks royally fighting a fire in bitter cold weather. I have done it. Our apparatuses froze up, and our lines froze up. I had ice literally on my bunker gear. The roads and grassy areas around the fire scene were covered in thick, thick layer of ice. It was a freaking nightmare!!!

    A thought: First line to the fire floor and not pushing from the exterior. Especially when you have guys inside. You are pushing the fire towards them. Second line to the floor above. I’m not sure if a line ever made it up there. 15:13 More horizontal ventilation. Without working off a stick it might have been too icy on the roof. Guys with hooks to pull ceilings on the fire floor. Third line if needed to the exposure along with hooks to check for extension.
    Tough break on the frozen hydrant. Lucky it was probably room and contents and so was mostly knocked down with booster tank water.
    Also, some more ladders to the second floor.

    • @jerseyshorefireresponse
      @jerseyshorefireresponse  Před 7 měsíci +2

      He was doing 360 as most of the FF were inside the building, they had fire venting the D side window he was checking on that while crews inside operated on floors 1 & 2. Once more manpower came to the scene he was able to go to the front of the building and hold command. Chief putting in the work in my eyes.

      Nope! Usually never get hassled, I mostly know every one on the fire ground, guess the chief from Jackson doesn’t like me, he gave me some shit about filming and that I’m not putting out the fire. I simply reply to what people say to me… usually it’s cops who aren’t educated on the law. I was standing behind police & other bystanders filming. I’m aware of safe areas to film since I’ve been doing this years now…

      Over 100K a year and the best benefits for life till they die, then there spouse gets it till they die. Now a days they get paid enormously to work for private road work crews and retail store protection. These ridiculous rates were negotiated by the Police Unions and they use publicly owned vehicles to perform these off duty activities. My father was a cop and received full benefits and pension till he died in his 90's. My brother got a $100K pension when he retired after 25 years. Just keep going on. It's a great job. I can go on if you like. They are not millionaires but they do much better than the average person.@@CoreyStradling
