- In today’s video I showed you how to make a gear wheel using glue and baking soda it’s like 3D printing, known as super glue or ca glue. Using baking soda and super glue together is a much more effective and durable method than using cotton and super glue.

It's a great way to fix things that don't have a lot of stress on them. Idk how well it would work under constant stress though!
Try using liquid wrench spray silicone with cerflon instead of WD-40, about the same price and will help get the parts easier

Far better ways of doing this but in a pinch if you're nowhere near the equipment needed to fix something, this could be very useful.
It's the mcgiver element that makes this so interesting. In terms of "far better solutions" , if buying a replacement isn't an option , what would you recommend?

No doubt a lot of fun and ingenuity. Also great filming, clearly a professional CZcamsr. Should specify the very limited application. Because there are tons of ppl that can actually make proper gears that will last, that are tested, etc

If you've got the time for this you might as well get a cheap 3d printer and then you can make whatever you want without the restrictions of a mold

You do realize there are actual resin's for this purpose and that baking soda super glue junk youre making is extremely fragile and will break and chip very easily?
You are right moi drug, for this application it's probably better to use resin.
The hot glue mold is a good idea though; saves many hours and mess of silicon (for this type of small and quick requirement).
Nevertheless, the baking soda + hot glue is quite good for specific repairs.
So it's like everything: finding the right tool for the job.

Superglue and baking soda can be found anywhere. If you're going to special order something, might as well order readymade gear.
I think they just wanted to make a temporary solution only with supplies you have at home

There's this thing called 3d printing nowadays.
You should check it out
3d printing in the wilderness
I guess you could buy a 3D scanner so you could get the profile and angles of the gear ⚙️, reverse engineer it into a CAD file and convert it to an STL file, send it to a slicer program, then to the 3D printer… print it, clean it up and there you go. Very expensive for the scanner, softwares and printer.
Or, you could make a little mold of the item as shown here duplicate it with some inexpensive materials similar to this video.
There’s something satisfying about doing it this way, a simpler way, a lower cost way.

Isn't it expensive to use super glue that way like if it was butter? i'd buy 5 plastic gears with the price of the amount glue spent on the video.

About 50 quids worth of superglue. Buy some 2 pack resin for £5
Teeth would be Brittle much better with Epoxy.
Or you could just go to a shop and buy one and save yourself a lot of time and money
Depending on where you live, you can make one of these much faster than you will take to find an exact copy of your gear.
