TAILWHEEL TRAINING | WHAT TO EXPECT

- A more informative video about what to expect when first starting your taildragger conversion. I have done all my taildragger training in the KFA Safari which uses a Rotax 912ULS engine and Alaskan Bush Tires.
Doing your taildragger conversion is highly beneficial if you've done all your training on a tricycle gear aircraft. It teaches you to respect the aircraft and fly it all times, especially when on the ground.
For any South Africans that may be interested, you can do your taildragger conversion at Petit Airfield with Bush Flying Africa.
I'd add the differences I found was, taxiing was much harder, constantly on the rudders and brakes. More rudder needed for takeoff and landing. Lifting the tail takes some getting used to on takeoff. And that 3 pointer landings feel amazing 😂 however in this video looks like you did wheelie landings only, which are a bit more difficult to execute than 3 pointers. Also, during taxi always keep the stick full back unless there is a strong tailwind!
Your 3-point landings aren't 3-point landings...the tailwheel never touches the ground! In a real 3-point landing, the 3 wheels touch pretty much simultaneously. Slow up, higher angle of attack.
I did most of my tailwheel training on ZU-IJH. Love that plane. Nice video!
Thank you!
Awesome video thanks
Just the video I was looking for.
Great video brother! I have been trying to buy a KFA, and it is not easy to get in the United States.
Here’s what to expect,...painful to hear microphone static.
Quality video
I think your video would be great if you overdubbed all your talking. That static is intolerable
Never seen a glass cockpit in a taildragger that’s wassup
Mixing modern with retro
Mic static made listening almost impossible
Microphone in the mouth doesn’t help either…
Intolerable audio. Do you listen to what you create?
I dont understand why anyone with a whole 30 hours tail wheel experience feels they can make videos to teach the rest of the world ! ridiculous
It should be mandatory to have a closed circuit nose camera to see in front of you while taxying. A reversing camera from a car works well
My thoughts exactly…
