David Bowie - I Can't Explain - 1980 Floor Show (2016 edit)

- Filmed at The Marquee Club, London in October 1973 for the US TV production of 'The 1980 Floor Show'.
This is a completely new edit of 'I Can't Explain' constructed from the outtakes footage.
The broadcast version of this song used a series of freeze frames during the opening of the song. Trendy at the time but a bit dated now. I wanted to get back to more of a raw live experience. So now at the start of the song we see Ronson playing guitar and Bowie grooving along to it. The subsequent edit differs from the broadcast version too though it still has much in common.
I hope you like it. I'll be posting more '1980 Floor Show' re-edits soon. - Hudba
What golden age! David Bowie, Mick Ronson, Marc Bolan, Lou Reed, Nico, Andy Wharol, Iggy Pop, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Salvador Dali' and Amanda Lear, Roxy Music and more, more, more...
Amanda Lear! Man you brought some beautiful memories back for me right there! Grazie Alex, is she/he😊 still alive btw?
My God, are you the second me or am I the second you? 🤪You named all of the people/bands who influenced my musical tastes to this day. Unfortunately, I use them as a standard, and today’s music seems to be so lacking. As Jethro Tull said, living in the past, I don’t like doing that, but the music that I listen to when I was young, was and is so influential in my life.
@@HUBIE64U yes living in France.
Darkness
Mick Ronson being the blonde guitarist god he is on stage.
He sure is! And then some!!!
🤔 When did Rod Stewart play guitar for David Bowie......😳🙄😅😆😂
Best guitarist ever
@@rickjohnson8707 you funny trucker Rick mate 🇦🇺🦘🤘🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂👌🍻
No matter what musicians David constellated into a band , with many changes over the years, there was always a David Bowie sound. Amazing, and great.
Man, I love this presentation! 😍
Bowie in this song is so naturally androgynous and sympathetic.
RIP dear and great artist. ❤
transcendence
Still superbly shockingly gorgeous today.... saw it when it first aired in '74 on Midnight Special... changed my life, all our lives, no doubt!!!
I was touched by David's stardust in '73 and was glued to the tv when this aired :) I actually took a picture of him on the screen lol. I'm so glad I saw him live 6 times; 1st in 1975 (Chicago)
seeing david in these tight clothes gives me 30 more years of life, i love this man
Bowie. BOWIE ,,,!!! The only true ASTRONAUT ,,,, Gx
Someone here said that they aren't sure about the boots. Well, I am very, very, sure about the boots. And all of this since I was 13 years old when I first saw this. I am almost 60 now and I still haven't recovered. And I don't want to.
I concur.
That’s so David. Saw him in feb 1976 at the Montreal forum. My third concert. I was 15. It was brilliant. Opened with Station to Sation. And out came the Thin White Duke.
I was pretty young when Bowie was in this stage of his life. 12 years old. I remember thinking "who is this person that looks like Helen Reddy?" Fast forward I "Discovered" Bowie after buying "Changes one" around 1980-81. That was all it took. Lucky enough to see him live three times and have most of his library. One of a kind if there ever was one.
You gave me a laugh! I would never have thought of Helen Reddy! 😁
When Bowie was a subversive beauty; short-lived, retiring it a bit too soon even though Young Americans was next up!!!
Love your comment!
His smile is amazing I just love him so much
Aynsley Dunbar kills it in this show.
I thought that was him!
This was from the Midnight Special when Bowie hosted.
Saw the 1980 floor show on TV back in the day. Was the first time I'd seen Bowie. Been a fan ever since.
David Bowie was an amazing man. Thanks for the videos, Mister Sussex!!!
Definitely a unique & intriguing version of an old classic tune from Bowie & Ronson:}
RONNOOO. FANTASTIC. ❤️💓🎶🎶🎶
Mister Sussex, Been watching all your vid's since I found them today!...Thank you so much for them!, A lot of the songs from "The 1980 floor show" was of course from the Pin Ups album which of course was not written by Bowie and just cover songs from some of his favorite artists!, But it was one of my favorite albums (although there wasn't any Bowie album I didn't like!) because Bowie done these songs his way...And NOTHING is like the way Bowie done things or presented them in any form or fashion!....Thanx again for sharing these remarkable Bowie video's!
It's all covers, but it has that Ziggy & the Spiders electricity to it (slightly different personnel here). It was really a good album. I remember when I bought it - the energy just flew off the needle.
Yes, I knew the Pin Ups album was all covers from songs from other groups that Bowie had a connection with in his life and they meant something to him and some of his own personal favorite songs from those other artist!....But yes Pin Ups had that Ziggy energy to it...Especially when you crank up the volume!...Kinda like the Ziggy Stardust album...To be played at Maximum volume! And its fun to research all the songs on the Pin Ups album and listen to the original groups version of them!...But to me its like Night and Day...as Bowie just took all of them to the extreme in his cover versions....The Bowie style way!
The back of the album cover featured the song titles in Bowie’s handwriting, along with his brief explanation of the song choices:
"These songs are among my favourites from the ’64-67′ period of London.
Most of the groups were playing the Ricky-Tak (was it a ‘y’ or an ‘i’?) - scene club circuit.
(Marquee, eel pie island la-la)
Some are still with us.
Pretty Things 1 (1) 3 (2) Them 2 (1) Yardbirds 3 (1) 4 (2) Syds Pink Floyd 4 (1) Mojos 5 (1) Who 6 (1) 5 (2) Easybeats 1 (2) Merseys 2 (2) Kinks 6 (2)
Love-on ya!"
Bowie
@@paolacelletti2056 Yeah, Knew all that but appreciate your comment for those that didn't know! ....As I still have the original 8-track, cassette, CD and original vinyl album of "Pin Ups" (Along with all the rest of his other recordings on various music formats!) that shows all that info! ....Been a huge Bowie fan for almost 50 years now!
@@aladdinsane. Me too, I'm a bowienut since 20018, and a Bowie fan since 1972.
I'm glad you enjoyed my post. I miss him, I love him forever. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Damn. David sure had balls.
Mick Ronson is perfect in this video.
Just realised, in the break, youŕe not interested in Bowie only - the backing singers TAKE OVER! Fabulous
Darn it, Bowie, you sound about as good as the WHO! How do you do it!
Wow wow wow.1984 floorshow dollars in drag..ziggy stardust..you brought my soul to life.everthing about you and what you did was inspiring.al never forget you..x
Nice sax version...Ronson + Bolan + Woody the best time of Bowie music..when he left the Spiders 🕷 never was as before
He made this song so sexy.
This footage is from late 1973 - just before his transition from glam rock to funky 'plastic soul'. It's certainly not from 1980! He looked completely different to this, in 1980.
The show was called The 1980 Floor show a twist on 1984. We all know it wasn't aired in 1980 🙄
Not too sure about the kinky boots there Dave, but nice to find him doing a version of this live with Ronno etc. Pin Ups was such a fabulous album and I loved all his takes on songs on the album and later checked out the originals. I was already into the Who so naturally loved this anyway.
His face at the beginning, when Ronson's just done that jump, like 'here we go'. Man, could he ever do it
Sublime job of editing! I’m in awe!! 🙏🏽🙌🏽🌹
Pin Ups is one of my favorite Bowie albums.
Great album indeed 🌟
Thanks for this. Saw him 3 times over the years. OMG every time. What a talent and nice person.

I have never seen this video....freaking awesome. The only man that can sport a mullet.
Its not a mullet.
It was called a Bowie cut.
@@nurknanker6105 LOL...now we're just splitting hairs.
@@60sStyling no, he's right.
Glam bam thank u ma'am! And thanks to Pete T.
I’ve never understood why Bowie didn’t continue working with the talented and versatile Mick Ronson. “Diamond Dogs”, although superb, would have been ever better with Mick on guitar.
Love the who, love david bowie.
Me too ❤
1:25 sped up, sounds way better 👍🏻💯
🔥🔥🔥
David is artist, try to beeeee..like he
💕
His first Lp I listened to....

In case you didnt know back up singer is Luthor Vandross

That skinny guy is not Luther Vandross .
that's DAVID
🤩⭐⚡♥️
Original feel-male pop star.
Retvrn to tradition.
Mick Robson on guitar 🎸. Incredibly underated and lm afraid exploited, as where the other Spiders from Mars.
Gorgeousness and turbo talented, that was David and Mick!
1974
Another great piece of work, Kieran! Are you going to them as individaul numbers and then join them all together once every track is complete...?
Thanks. Yes I think I will.
Oh please do! These are terrific. I think I remember reading somewhere that Bowie thought the filming of the 1980 Show was pretty naff. I'm sure he'd be much happier with your versions. They do far more justice to the performances. Thank you!

Love this thanks Mr Sussex🎶.☺
Let me explain the uniqueness of my tattoos. See this one? It's a tree, a tree I climbed when I was 54. It's a memory now since I chopped it down. Now this little beauty holds a special significance. It's a murder investigation. See the brief case. That's where many of the papers relating to the case are. The tattoo across my nose is of a smaller nose. I got it as a dare and I haven't regretted it.
