  • Same video as before, only this time after installing the rebuilt carbs. Notice how much smoother she runs now, the different, meaner sound of the throttle, and the lack of any backfire like before. Might be running a tad rich, but all in all, I'm pretty convinced of this bike's performance with these carbs.
    I'm still playing around with the idle, as you can see in the vid. Trying to find that sweet spot.
    If anyone is interested, I re-jetted the main jets from a 115 stock to a 125, and the pilot jets from a 45 stock to a 50. I also shimmed the carb needles using #4 washers.
    Next step? Install those new mufflers.

    I have to say, this absolutely screams Classic Greaser. And i mean this as the biggest of compliments. The style of the bike matches yours and it's Fonzie level of cool.

    First bike I ever rode was a 750 KZ. That was when I was about 15 years old. That would have been 1975. The bike was already a few years old I'd guess 3-4. It did not have a kick start. It was a twin. I don't think they re-introduced a kick start after that. So I wonder just how old that bike really is. You may have quite a nostalgic machine there. If it runs half decent its a keeper for sure. I have never rode anything with as much torque as that since. Nice to see the younger generation appreciate something like that.

      This is Hatchet on another account. The bike in this vid is an '83. This is the LTDK1 model with the belt drive, which I believe was produced for only one year. Since these old videos I got the build on this KZ finished and she has run flawlessly and wonderfully for all the years since. Currently she is taken apart again waiting on some new tires, steering bearings and a few other things. I'll try to post some videos on this channel again in the future...I didn't really realize it was still seeing any activity! Thanks!

      As far as I know, this engine always came with a kick start.
      My first bike was a KZ 750 40 years ago, I just bought a '82 LTD 750.
      Love these bikes!

    You are totally right. Since putting the mufflers on, I had a line of thought similar to yours, and I decided to remove the baffles from the cans. Now it sounds nicer, more "refined" due to having mufflers, but it's back to being loud enough to approach open headers - but still not "Harley loud". It's a good sound, I like it.

    That was just to break her in. After that I re-jetted the carbs, etc. to tune her up. Now she's running like a champ.

  • @Hatchet1138

    Alright tufdog, here's the scoop. I replaced the starter chain (per your recommendation), fixed the fuel hoses, and added more gas to the tank. That's really all I did. What it came down to was the bike just hadn't run in goodness knows how long, so I had to kind of ease her into it. I hand-pumped the kicker to get the fluids going, opened up the choke fully, rolled the throttle a few times to get some fuel in the carbs, and used starter fluid on both air pods (a gigantic help).

    Congratulations! This bike is an '83, but I think all the KZ's are virtually identical start to finish. They are rad bikes. Total underdogs to the CB craze but I've learned to love them more than any CB.
    $200 is a steal no matter what. Get that old bird fixed up and post a video of it!

      I don't think it's an '83. As far as I know, there were no KZ750 twins in '82 through '84. I might be wrong, but I have been unable to find a model of KZ750 in those years that isn't a four cylinder. Also, I have been unable to find a single KZ750 from '81 on ward that has a kick starter.

    What year is this? I have a KZ750 I got from my buddy he says is a 79 but may be a 78. I'm going to put videos up when I get it fixed up a bit. He got it 3 years ago, tuned it up with fresh oil, filter, plugs and wires etc and rode it 30 miles before laying it down and it has sat in a shed ever since, now he has a GSXR1000 and I picked up his old bike for $200. Needs a few things like headlight and turn signals, gauge cluster, rear brake pedal etc. I like the header wrap on your pipes by the way

  • @flat_stickproductions209

    I have UNI pods, 2-1 exhaust and run the 50 pilot jet and drilled 128 main jet in Phoenix AZ. So far runs good and idles around 1400 rpm smooth.

      I'm having issues with mine taking throttle. I have a 2-1, KN pods and recently got a jet kit. The kit come with a stock 45 idle jet and a 128 and 134 mains.. I have the stock 115 jets as well... All the jets I've tried all do the same thing... It will idle fine, but will not take throttle at all.. any advice?

    Yeah I will when I can, now that the weather is nice and I took a riders training class I need to pick up my endorsement (class eliminates the DMV testing in my state) I need to hurry up and get her going. I think there are some minor differences between the 76-8 and 79+ but not anything major at all.

      Alot of the answer is in its carbs.
      It could run even better if tuned just that much more.
      It could Pick up the slack in the response time too.

  • @RidX4Ricers
    @RidX4Ricers Před 11 lety +1

    Sounds great, I think you should lose the mufflers a bike can never be too loud. Loud pipes save lives. As much as I try to watch out for bikes when I'm in my car with music up I had at least one time when I almost ran a couple guys off the road because I didn't hear them trying to merge into my blind spot, and I watch for bikes so they got lucky I saw them at the last second think about the people who don't. who cares if loud pipes annoy people it's your ass that's getting ran over not theirs.

    • @Smackindaface
      @Smackindaface Před 7 lety

      Why stock exhaust? If you jet carbs you need pods and exhaust otherwise it's going to run rich, or lean.
