It wasn't too long ago that you guys were watching another video of me doing a review of the original Ruroc Atlas 1.0. Less than a year later and here we are again with the second iteration of the helmet and somehow Ruroc was able to implement a ton of updates to the helmet. I've had the helmet for about 2 months now riding around with it so in today's video we're going to discuss my thoughts on the helmet!

First of all, the cons against my 2.0 Hellfire helmet...
1: Over 3 months wait for the helmet to be delivered- despite the onset of Covid restrictions, they promised that the shipment was on its way after 3 weeks, but no joy...once the delivery arrived, I found myself with two visors and NO Pinlock even though I had ordered a Pinlock with the original purchase. It might be prudent to price and ship a visor and Pinlock with the helmet, not 2 visors and no Pinlock.
2: Helmet padding is too 'forgiving'; helmet was a great fit for maybe two weeks, then it began to feel 'loose' so the Fidlock strap has been adjusted (twice) to enable comfort and security when in use.
3: The padding also has flimsy/poor fittings- after installing the speakers, you can feel the pads shifting as you put on and take off the helmet. The false air intakes along the jawline may also be contributing to the added turbulence around the helmet.
4: This helmet is noisy as f&@k...Why is Chase almost shouting at 75 to 80 mph on the freeway?
5: The forehead vent is open all the time; on cooler days this can get a bit too chilly (won't be using this in colder weather!!) and rain can enter the helmet.
5: The Shockwave does not fit snugly in the helmet.
6: The visor's 1st position (crack or mini click) is not enough for increased airflow.
The pros of the 2.0 Hellfire helmet...
1: i like the design of the helmet and the colour scheme has caught the attention of some admirers.
2: The chin vent flows air very well, probably as good as my Shoei ADV helmet.
3: The Fidlock chinstrap allows for one handed application and removal.
4: The helmet came with a clear AND a dark visor.
5: This Hellfire helmet is so light!
6: The Shockwave has linked seamlessly to my phone and the speakers work very well.
Keep on with what you are doing Chase and RSMF.

I must admit that my Atlas 2.0 is the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn, however, they need to improve the way the liner connects to the helmet. The plastic "3D poppers" are weak and where they attach to the helmet is also weak. For the price I think they should have metal snaps or at least a more robust plastic...and no, the carbon is not the coolest one. It's the Toxin. Much love for that buckle!
Also, just ordered my upgraded speakers for the Shockwave. A big thank you to Ruroc for that! Can't wait to swap those for the old ones.
To Ruroc: I'd love to T&E version 3.0...I'll even start a CZcams channel to do it. 😉

I’m a brand new rider and the Ruroc 2.0 is definitely catching my eye. So far I’m just using a standard helmet from the local Harley store, but I’m definitely looking to upgrade.
I’d say the only thing I’d like to see is a rear view camera HUD. I’m in El Paso, TX and frankly, the driver’s here are absolutely insane. Having that certainty via an HD camera would take my safety to a whole new level.

Nice review! What I only miss with this helmet is a sun visor and more options to turn off the ventilation while driving by, for example, sliders. So that the helmet can be used not only in the summer, but also in the autumn and towards the winter.

Your sound is good. The longer chin curtain is better the the regular one, never had the problem of mine falling out. 2 things I see for Ruroc to improve. 1) A pro tint shield with more clicks. 2) To upgrade the shockwave to communicate with other brands

  • @theroadhound
    @theroadhound Před 4 lety

My 2.0 Hellfire is confortable, light, huge field of view, wind noise is ok, I agree with you on the padding should be softer and clips should be sturdier, the additional click on the visor also is a good idea mostly for summer time.

  • @highryder100
    @highryder100 Před 4 lety

1 click open is a wonderful feature, my old shoei had it, new hjc does not and i miss it. For those who don’t know what a pinlock is- it’s a lens with a gasket that mounts on the inside of your visor which creates an air pocket in between the visor and pinlock lens, it keeps visor from fogging and they work awesomely. I highly recommend a pinlock, just make sure you order the one thats made for your helmet. try it you won’t be disappointed

Chase, I agree with you on the padding in this helmet. My 2.0 was the second "quality" helmet that I've ever bought and I feel like the padding in it is a little lacking. My helmet before this one was a Bell, star model. Although that helmet is much heavier, the padding in it is much better. To be honest, I bought my Ruroc based on your opinion and a few others opinions and I have no regrets whatsoever, it just needs a little extra padding in it. Anywho, just wanted to say thanks for the videos that you put out and for the honest content in them as well. Keep it up!

Ruroc can claim the safety of the Fitlock all they want, but easy operation also means easy to undo in an accident. Sure, it's secure when you pull on it "normally". But in an accident, it's anything but normal. But there's no way in hell I'm trusting my head with that closure when limbs and parts are flailing around, and all it takes is a stray swipe to undo the lock and have the helmet flying. The Double D ring is crap to operate, but that also means it's not coming off when your face is being turbo charged into the tarmac at 50mph

I ended up selling my Ruroc Atlas 2.0 because of quality issues. Sadly, those quality problems didn't show up until my 3rd week of ownership and Ruroc denied my return request. A $500 helmet shouldn't have the types of problems I experienced. Pads would fall out just pulling the helmet off, the inner shell would move (wiggle) and the visor didn't seal properly. It's a bummer because I had high hopes for the helmet.

I have not had a chance to test out an Atlas 2.0, so take my opinion on it with that in mind.
Right now, if I'm being honest, The Atlas 2.0 just doesn't compare to a direct competitor like the RF1200. The RF1200, in matte black, is $500 (Revzilla.com). The Atlas 2.0 Core is $420. The rest of the RF1200 lineup is only about $20 more than what the 'stylized' Atlas 2.0 versions are priced at.
Apples to apples (Matte black RF1200 - Atlas 2.0 Core) - For $80 more you get a 'top-tier' Shoei, with all the features you said you wanted on the Atlas 2.0.
Having said that, I do agree that Ruroc is heading in the right direction by listening to consumers. They just need to step their game up with quality and maybe not have such a stringent focus on being lightweight. I really do like the way the Atlas helmets look, and it's a big plus that they give you two Pinlock shields with every helmet.
At this point, I don't see anything that would pull me away from my RF1200 or Neotec II. Yet.

I would say the biggest thing that keeps me from Ruroc over Bell is no photochromatic visor. I live in Hawai'i ~ ride to work in the day and ride home @ night (over 70 miles a day round trip) . Photochromatic visor is a must for me .. also the ability as Chase stated in this video Ruroc ~ 2 things .. that 1st mini click for the visor is a must for the heavy rain storms out here (think going 60 / 70 mph down the highway, the fog up , gotta have that mini click and a forward head tilt to make it work) & 2nd, ditch the flimsy plastic pad attachments and upgrade to magnetic adhesion for the internal pads.

These are good helmets, but for the price point, you could get better, proven helmets, like the Shoei RF-1200 or the HJC RPHA 11 Pro. Props to Ruroc for taking customer feedback seemingly to heart though. I think the next generation of Atlas will be the one that hits the spot. It's a good helmet, but there are just some quality issues that you shouldn't see in a $500 helmet. In my opinion, the sweet spot for helmet quality-to-price ratio is the $300 range of helmets.

The fact that it doesn't do comms is a deal breaker for me, but I'd still be interested to hear about the sound quality and how easy it is to operate with gloves on given the tiny little buttons situated right at the back and no voice control. Also, Pinlock insert should really be included free like almost every other premium helmet manufacturer these days.

A flip front with internal drop down sun visor would be cool, especially if the internal is changeable and different colours offered including clear. That way if going out on a sunny day you can have a cool tinted visor on it and a clear internal incase the conditions change. Where are the controls for the bluetooth system? Or you have to use source device? Small clip on handlebar bluetooth remote would be good.

Don't need a helmet, I have an AGV Sport Modular, but if you were to make the cheekpads more plush you be adding weight. As far as the snaps on the pads they should go light and use titanium like AGV. The Sport Modular is 3.2lbs in medium, but that's with a canopy and mechanism and drop down sun visor. I picked my Stripes model up for $475 on closeout and it comes with the pinlock. Yes, I do like that magnetic chin strap. Other companies will probably try to copy it but that is the best system I've ever seen. And a full face helmet weighing in at 2.7lbs is 3/4 helmet territory, and I mean a carbon fiber 3/4 by today's offerings. I just prefer my modular and the weight difference isn't enough to make me want one. Plus, my modular is very quiet at speed.

why are you wondering how could it be that light?
i feel its more on the heavy side for a full carbon helmet with no features and a helmet shell that looks like it was only designed for passing DOT and
ECE testing, even the features it has do look flimsy
with the design of the helmet shell i mean the egdes on top are along the line for the testpoints B, P; the vents on top are also around these points
while the exhaust/spoiler is around point R and goes up to the side where you have the right and left testpoint X
you can help the shell to brake at these points, while still withstanding a penetration, to dissipate forces and so reduce the thickness of the foam liner
so it will allow for a lighter shell and less foam, so be lighter, but this will have in most cases negative effects for situations were you dont hit theses
    testpoints
then you have pretty much nothing on the helmet, except the comm system integration wich would add around probably 50g to 100g and block pretty
much the area to exhaust warm air from a helmet
but you cant even close the damn vents cause that would result with that many vents in mayby another 100g (kepp in mind you have to replace the
light mesh parts they use to keep rocks out with at least 2 parts per vent)
the whole visor mechanics are reduced to the bare minimum, thats why you dont have a useable city position for the visor or the rough looking (but
covered) and sounding mechanics or the light but in my opinion not that good visior locking (pin in shell and hole in visior)
even the retention clips for the liner are a bare minimum for the function, but i wouldnt be comfortable to wash the liner more then a few times and the
liner itself looks like its useing good cloth but cheap and light padding
the position of the top vents lookes like only first near the visior is doing any work, cause i cant see any way they will have a higher preasure on the outside
to even try to get air in the helmet; at most they will exhaust the fresh air the front vent brought in due to some kind of venturi
also with the design of the vents any air moveing in or out must be louder then necessary for the volume moved (how the air flows does have a big impact
    on the loudness)
if i look at a SCHUBERTH SR2 for instance. i have a helmet that is a tiny bit heavier and also reduced in features but these are in a high quality but a mostly
glass fibre shell that will have better aerodynamics and not be as loud and i would even guess a better ventilation

The pod cast with teapotone one, awesome video.
Totally agree the views on the Atlas 1.0 compared to the Atlas 2.0.
I have one of each version and the wind noise is totally different between the two versions I have a shark Squad 2 and the padding and how they connect to the helmet are totally different level between shark and Ruroc, The chin guard on my 2.0 as yet has not fallen out yet.
The berserker from Ruroc also has been released now only a day to go before you can buy. pinlock has been around in Europe for years. The shockwave has been updated Aswell since I bought my shockwave. Ruroc have been so cool with giving me the new speaker and Mike for free, just pay for postage and sent me a link for the software update, so I can update my shockwave. So chuff with the level of customer service I am still receiving from Ruroc.
shockwave needs to be able to work rider to rider Aswell as just SatNavs, mobiles.

Love the looks & design of Ruroc helmets, and have been checking them out for awhile now, but I'd rather get one for Euc riding than motorcycle riding, so noise isn't really an issue, as a matter of fact, I believe a 1.0 Ruroc would offer better hearing & more air flow for riding Euc's, as for the noise its actually needed to hear the beeps of an Euc when it reaches terminal velocity...lol So my man does Ruroc still sell the 1.0 line? Their snow line would not be adequate cuz of the detachable chin, cuz face plants are very common if one, falls from an Euc, so a solid full face is needed with minimal hearing loss. This is why a 1.0 is best for my needs any help would be greatly appreciated. 😜👍

Wouldn't it be useful to have Dual Visors? My mate has a Helme that has both a clear and Tinted Visor built-in. So in sunny weather, you have your tinted Visor and in Low Light or Night Riding, you use your Clear Visor. This would be really convenient!

The biggest thing that’s stopping me from switching is not having a visor (not a pin lock) that auto tints. For those days I’m riding all day or late into the night. I don’t want the pin lock because it doesn’t fully cover my vision and also looks goofy. Also as cool as the integrated audio I want to make it easier to install aftermarket stuff like the cardo or the Sena

I like that carbon one and I'd like to see them put more clicks in the viser also and the little pins that hold the padding in i like buttons better but i think they used those pins so they can come out easier in case of wreck. A big plus for me would be having different shell sizes so someone like myself who wears a small doesn't have to have a giant helmet made for a XXL with thicker padding to make the size small just make different size helmet shells for bigger sizes and smaller sizes

      It’s terrible.
I have the 2.0 mercury that just sits in the box because it’s so damn loud. The helmet feels super cheap and I wouldn’t bother purchasing from ruroc until they get their shit together and start making a quality product.
It’s louder than pretty much every other helmet I have worn including my airflite and variant pro that I use regularly.

It's a really cool looking helmet but it's got a long way to go yet.
The inability to close vents prevent it from being an all year round helmet. The water ingress exacerbated by the always open vents reduce its versatility further really making it a summer / fair weather helmet only without sacrificing any comfort.
The list goes on of its shortcomings and while it does look seriously cool it's a long way off being a viable contender for an alternative all year round helmet

Seriously if you’re considering one of these just pony up the extra 50-100 dollars and get into a regent-x or RF-1200. You get snell rated helmets that are handmade in japan with racing background. No comparison when an atlas 2.0 is minimum 495 USD and you only get one active vent and one EPS layer.

The biggest thing though is my visor seal is flipping down on the left top side. 😡 my visor is adjusted all the way out. Not sure why it’s doing that. I agree on the pads, would love to see Shoe style pads. Other than that love my helmet. Love the Ruroc crew.
