- How to make a taller form and expand the form into wide belly. Then throw a lid, add a bird sculpture, firing tips shown through 12 displayed urns made during this video production. See the kiln unloaded.
OMG - the most wonderful - I took wheel pottery too in 1979 - and want to get back into it....so love all your wisdom, and taking time to educate us. Absolutely you have become my favorite creator - watching you from Manitoba.....
Thanks again. Stay safe out there.
Vaughan - I agree with other comments. You have a very relaxed presence and your instructions are clear. I especially liked how you described making lids - something that seems to take me forever to do. Hope to get to Nova Scotia someday soon and visit your pottery. It's on my "list". Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the feed back. I hope to see you here some day soon.
Been throwing for about 12 yrs. turned this on just to see some shape and lid ideas.
But wow! A GREAT teacher. Your narration was excellent!
Even as an experienced potter, I enjoyed getting back to basics with this.
Great job!
Was a wonderful reminder of the “little things” that make a difference.
Thanks for the compliment. 49 years for me.
Thanks for the tips and tricks. I love the ribbing texture.
Thanks for watching
Great pot, thanks for sharing.
Love the bird.
Thanks for watching
I love how you talk about all those little things that many other potters don't talk about. Like the pressure your hands apply on the inside and out. And how leaning on the rim can make the pot actually wider.
I appreciate your tutorials and having the CC really helps a person with a hearing impairment.
I guess the teaching in school has really helped.
Thank you again.
Thanks, I try to make it easier.
Your urns with bird handle lids are beautiful! And your videos are wonderfully done. I find that watching you throw and describe the process in such detail to be very inspirational. Thanks so much for helping us all through these quarantine times. Keeps us afloat and more sane. Please keep making them.
Thanks Horace. I started the videos to help slow me down in my production, once the lock downs started. I knew sales would be slow last year. Optimistically sales are booming this winter/spring. I think we are going to have a great summer season and a vaccine in 2-3 weeks.
Wow, wow, wow, what a wonderful video with awesome firing results!! My favorite is the apple red....amazing! Definitely would love to have that one. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you.
What a cute little bird you made for the top of the lid💞
Thanks, easy to make and fairly durable for use.
Beautiful and lots of great details for throwing.
Thanks, it is nice to be appreciated.
I have learned so much from you! Thank you for all the time and energy you put into your videos. Nice job! :)
Thank you for saying so.
This was my Wednesday treat after doing a morning of COVID vaccine volunteering...such a treat and I am going to try to create some larger urns tomorrow as I have a free day! You are an inspiration and give clear instructions that make me feel optimistic. The reality might be different ( will be different) - but I am doing it! Thanks - stay warm!👍
Good luck!! Also thanks for the volunteer work. We are a month a way from our first vaccine.
I love your URNs they turned out beautiful. One one my favorite pots to make. thanks for sharing with us!
I like making them too, hopefully they are used for alternative decorative reasons.
Has to be one of the best videos I’ve ever watched very nice job 👍
Thanks for that, I am trying to make them substantive but not to long.
Thanks for sharing. I’m inspired to try little birds.
Thanks for watching.
I do love watching you and the easy way you throw! It’s always enjoyable and educational! Can’t wait to make a trip up there!
Thanks and see you sooner than later..
These are very beautiful urns Vaughan! Thanks for the complete video showing the processes.
My pleasure! Stay safe.
Beautiful demo. Regarding rim tool, I attach a red and white fishing bobber to a piece of chamois and let it float in my throwing water....no more putting Cham through the recycled clay.☹️
Great idea. I will try when I find it.
Your choice of colours are always wonderful Vaughan. Another great load of beautiful pots along with the tips of the trade...great stuff all around!
Thanks Freddie.
I discovered you today. Like your work very much! I have just begon throwing on the wheel. Greetings from Holland!
Hello Jolande, let me know how I can help in your learning processes. Thanks for watching.
Creating a flange on a lid was very helpful.
Good for wind since these will be outside.
You make it look so easy.
So, so beautiful, Vaughan! Thank you for sharing your processes.
Thank you too for watching.
Stunning urns ❤️ thank you for sharing your process through to completion, it gives one such a sense of the work going into creating these amazing works of art. PS and I know there's a lot of background work work too - making glaze, recycling clay, glazing plus the business operations. Thank you again ❤️
Thank you so much! When you start making pottery you understand how much goes into it. Good luck.
Great throwing, thanks.
SW Ontario... Thank you. Am a wood carver so love your organic, nature carving. When it gets to be Road Trip time again, and we are visiting family in NS, we will drop by.
Thanks and stay safe there.
Amazing
Lovely
Máte nádherné a poučné videa,skvělá práce...jenže Vám nerozumím....u nás v Česku takové videa nikdo nedělá,škoda...ať se daří a v práci....zdravím z 🇨🇿

Thank you
Bonjour. Manifique c'est couleurs
Merci.
How does one make faceted sides on such large vessels? A demonstration would be appreciated.
It is the same, only very carefully.
I saw a potter use Epsom salt in reclaim to increase the plasticity but I have not tried it
Hi, I think you can also add vinigar but it makes you hungry for French Fries.
@@Vsmithpots that I’ve done
OMG, my heart skipped a beat at 34:06 when the video speeded up. Whew! 😲🥴🤯
Vaughan, could you do a video about firing schedules. Thanks.
I will add it to the list, thanks.
Please put Closed Caption. I'm very hard of hearing. Must be all the clay in my ears. 😄
I will try but I do not know how to do that, I assume youtube will do it for me. Thanks for mentioning it.
I think I managed to do it, amazing, thanks for suggesting it.
