And he tries to pretend he's as innocent as the children were-- he was an adult. He was the guardian. He can go on and on about how they 'have the same monster' and how 'evil' did all the wrong things, but he was there. He let that abuse happen. Neglect is abuse. Inaction when someone allows a child to be abused is also abuse.

@@Maazzzo well we know from what jacob said that he did do this to mistreat her and that his mother told him to. And that is a form of emotional abuse. Children are easy to manipulate especially ones who have autism even though they are very high functioning. It’s actually cruel because many are highly sensitive and do express empathy and great remorse. So yeah I don’t trust Michael at all and I don’t believe he didn’t know about the abuse.

Great comment. He’s always “we’re both victims” which annoys me because you were a parent. But great observation. He doesn’t have sympathy to for her. She’s crying and he’s justifying consoling one of the boys. The issue is she’s a mere by standard to hear the story. He doesn’t seem to care she’s crying. He’s too busy telling a story to care for her. I had no way to explain how he acts. Like a toddler is perfect he has no accountability for his lack of any action to stop the abuse and no accountability

I don't think I have EVER despised another human being as much as I do Michael. Literally everything about him makes my skin crawl. Poor Natalia went through hell. I just want to hold her and tell her she is loved and that NOTHING was her fault. Someone needs to explain to her that she will never get the answers she is seeking from that bastard because he is incapable of telling the truth, and will only further traumatise her. She needs intense inpatient therapy and long term outpatient therapy. And, she needs to have ZERO contact with Michael. Sadly, I think the ONLY honest answers she would get would come from the eldest autistic son. Bless you Natalia.❤

The fact that he didn't stop his wife, remove the child from his wife's care, and go straight to the Police, makes me sick. The "show" that he puts on is disgusting. Weird question: (I am in no way supporting Michael. He should have called and got Natalia help and he didn’t. He failed her) My question is more about body cues and science part of it. They have a highly intelligent autistic son. If Michael was undiagnosed autistic hidden by high intelligence… would that affect a physical reading? I know my social cues don’t match. I have not been officially diagnosed, but it runs in the family and I have had two different therapists say I need to pursue that diagnosis. I feel emotions extremely strongly but I do not display them naturally. So to cope I feel like I have to force my body to do things that stereotypically coincide with the emotion I’m feeling. Otherwise, people around me think I’m weird or being disingenuous. Would an autistic person have to be read differently, and would things like self soothing or stims come off as manipulative?

I know that feeling; that sinking, hateful feeling when your perpetrator's telling you shit, absolute shit that you know is wrong, and you just want to scream over them because how dare they act like you're crazy. Props to Natalia for keeping composure. Better than me. Soon as I hear that fake emotional strain and fake crying, it makes me feel almost violently angry.
But watching this big abusive bully cower in the cameras is nice. Every time he peeks over to Natalia (feels like 50% of the time) to see if she's buying his bullshit but she's literally just distraught in her own feelings; that was good. It was good she wasn't connecting to him and buying it.

Out of genuine curiosity- is there ever a situation where a doctor would actually advise parents to put locks on their children’s doors? This isn’t a lock that Natalia can use for privacy, this is a lock the Barnett’s use to keep Natalia contained. What if there was a fire? What if there was some kind of emergency? Can you explain his slow blinks? To me that are like he is hiding something or not being truthful. I'm confused. Also, the fact that he overly tells his story with very small details with acting them out also make me feel like he's trying to convince her. I'm not the professional here obviously, but it just feels untruthful.

Even when Natalia breaks down in tears, Michael is *still* playing the victim... he never takes responsibility, and it's all everyone else's fault... he is despicable!! There is nothing about him that makes me like him or feel for him. He's selfish and childish.

He apologises profusely on behalf of his son because his son is so sorry and traumatised but doesn't apologise once for the horrific things that happened to Natalia.
Regardless of whether he was complicit or not (we all know he bloody was), its weird that he doesnt show any empathy at all. Not even a "im so sorry for what you have been through"
Oh wait, right at the end he gave a half assed apology.

One thing that hit me really viscerally is when Michael was imitating Kristine hissing “ Back up your wife!” and he swung his arm over and pointed straight in Natalia’s face. She physically flinched. No way do I believe he wasn’t aware she’d find that gesture frightening.
In the recordings of him talking to her at the apartment his whole attitude was “ You’re gonna do what I say,” in these videos it’s the same energy except it’s shifted to “You’re gonna believe what I say.”

Look I'm gonna do a tiny devil's advocate here. I feel like if it was reversed and it was a woman saying the same things he was I don't think there would be as much hate as Michael is currently getting. There have been plenty of women in the scenario of staying with someone abusive same situation he says he was in. There have also been women who stay even if their kids were and they stay out a sense of powerlessness. What is it because he is a man he can't feel powerless? Is that what it is? Don't get me wrong here though I also still think that a mother should leave or stop an abusive partner from harming their children. However I don't think people would be as harsh on a woman who didn't vs a man like Michael.

It’s not MY FAULT!!!!!1!!11!!” But in the way that a child who hasn’t quite gotten the hang of owning up to his actions is denying responsibility.

I wish Natalia had said “you never taught me anything about stranger danger” when she talked about not being prepared for the real world by Christine. I just can’t stand the way Michael makes it seem like Christine was the only parent. I find him to be so repulsive, all I want to do is lock him in a room and question him until he tells the truth. Like, he shouldn’t be allowed to leave when something hurts his feelings or when he’s held responsible for his actions. Of COURSE he knew what was happening. Of COURSE he could have done something. The victim act in the face of someone who was a victim of so much more is infuriating.

Any rational medical professional wouldn’t advise locking a child in a room. This sort of thing is handled by actual professionals who have the proper setting for the individual’s safety.
I can’t with Michael. He’s using specific instances to blanket himself as a victim like Natalia. But Natalia was there. I hope she recalls the interactions between Michael and Christine because how they generally interacted with each other is going to be closer to the truth. He’s just as guilty in what happened yo her.
Regardless of what people think of Natalia, she was a child with disabilities and they were the adults. They had a responsibility to her.
I genuinely feel horrible for her. I hope she can find people who choose her as family and genuinely love and care about her. She’s worthy of love and kindness.

That man is way too physically descriptive with his hands to be telling the truth about anything lol. I've seen people who use their hands when speaking, but the way he has to shape out every item he mentions with his hands, or act out everything motion he says he did, is a clear sign of someone who is used to lying and manipulating people. They even say during interrogations that when criminals tend act out everything or over explain the details it's usually because they're lying. Im not familiar with this story, but in the first minute of hearing him speak in this video, I already feel discomfort and would never trust him. Definitely performative and fake. Gonna go watch previous videos to get more info.

What makes me so angry is how impactful the Barnetts’ lies were. There are still many people who believe Natalia is fake or a sociopath, despite all the evidence that it was all fabricated. I was lied about, in foster care and denied future placements because of it, so I know how it feels. All because I, unwittingly, said something that was not flattering to a foster parent, to a worker who told me what I said was confidential. It got back to the foster parent. It wasn’t anything horrible. I had just mentioned her having parties. Now, I realize, she was an alcoholic and felt exposed by that. I was just talking, not trying to get anyone in trouble. I thought she was an adult and could throw parties, if she wanted to. I didn’t know it was some big secret. I’m not sure what she put in my file, but I was only offered “reform” school (getting whooped by a bunch of hardened child jailbirds) or substance use treatment, after that. That was nowhere in my chart and I hadn’t used or drank anything there, so I think some projection was done. Natalia’s story has some unique factors, but it’s, by no means, unusual. People take in children who have selfish motives. I’m so glad Natalia has brought this issue to the forefront. She is experiencing backlash from it. I, too, had displayed some inappropriate behaviors and a few isolated violent behaviors and I don’t have a personality disorder. I have autism that wasn’t diagnosed, as a child. Some behavioral problems are common, for abused kids. I’m glad I got therapy, to process what happened to me. I have a lot of empathy and see the best in people. Natalia deserves a lot better and Barnetts, it’s ok to say you made a mistake. People won’t hate you, if you do. They will only worry about you, if you don’t. Please take responsibility for this young lady, whom you abused and slandered and whose life you have disrupted.

In my opinion if he was “innocent” by way of ignorance to the situation he would still harbor a lot of guilt for being an adult in that situation and not helping his son or Natalia. If he was as unaware and helpless as he is leading us to believe he would still be sorry.
The only reason for him to not show guilt and apologize is to cover his own ass. There’s more to this than “poor Michael , what an unaware victim who had no power”. I wholeheartedly believe he was more than complacent in the abuse/neglect.

He said himself years earlier, that her previous adoptive parents gave her away because of her breaking their sons arm so willingly harming them. He also knew and saw all the abuse through his ex and sons as well as that Jacob throw her down the stairs. All was displayed in previous videos. There was even a video with his lawyers, where he jokes saying he can even produce the crying version. He even managed to blame his wife for his porn addiction. I truly don't understand why Michael and Kristine got off with no justice served to Natalia at all.

He was present and his wife was abusing a child under their joint care. When she threatened to take their sons away from him/his custody, couldn't he have returned that with the same and use that situation as a reason to remove his boys from their mother. Particularly if she encouraged them to participate in the abuse of another child under their care? Michael divesting himself of responsibility in a situation where he is one of two responsible parties is laughable. It tells me, he was a coward and didn't want to rock the boat. And that he placed another person's wellbeing (who was under his care) below his rocky relationship with his wife. So he still wanted to be with his wife and while he may have had problems with her and her behaviour he co-signed it because he didn't want to upset the family dynamic that he had even if it was only in hope of later obtaining the family dynamic that he wanted. I wonder if he's one of those people who doesn't tell you what's wrong and why it makes them feel that way. He is so manipulative and dramatic that I don't know if he's ever honest about that stuff. I don't trust him. I think he had a difficult relationship with his wife. I do not doubt that she is unpleasant based on events described by Nathalia and Michael. I do think and wonder how much participation Michael has had in Nathalia's situation. Considering his manipulation, lies and omissions
