Squat stitches and squashed stitches in cross stitch: what are they?

  • Squat stitches are usually used to add more detail in a cross stitch pattern in a small space, the chart grid squares are split in half either vertically or horizontally. This tutorial will show you how to stitch them, and what they look like in a pattern. They are also called squashed stitches, or half stitches by Heritage Crafts, or even vertical/horizontal split stitches.
