ABOUT ME:
Thanks for visiting my channel, I hope you enjoyed the video! I founded Caterpillar Cross Stitch in 2015 when I tried desperately for months to find a modern baby sampler my mum could stitch for new baby Felicity that would fit in with her simple, contemporary nursery. I love cross stitch, running, baking fruit cakes, drinking gin, eating salted caramel ice cream and most crafts!
See you soon and happy stitching! Sally x - Jak na to + styl

THANKS for CATERPILLAR CROSS STITCH 🥰
Well done. Clear and concise information. Would you consider doing a tutorial using a pattern to demonstrate how to read a pattern with half and quarter stitches to understand which direction the stitch should go. TIA
Thanks for your feedback and suggestion Carolyn! 😊

I love the citrus cross stitch in the background!! Is the pattern still available anywhere??
Yes, it is! Check out our website www.caterpillarcrossstitch.com to find it :)
There is an improved method if you're going to knot the end of your thread. Instead of going in from the back of the canvas, go in from the front a few square down the line where the top of the cross stitch should be. Then start stitching as normal. Because you place the knotted thread at the top and started stitching from the bottom, the thread is running diagonally across the intended line. As you create stitches the thread will become covered and secured in a reverse fashion of typically securing thread under finished stitches. Once you reach the knotted end, or have finished the line, you can cut the thread below the knot with tweezers and a stitch ripper, or a pair of scissors. The result is a smooth back with no tufts of thread and very secure work. I find this method best for a single cross stitch that will be later surrounded by more stitches
Fantastic Tip! Thank you for sharing!
Hi You have a new subscriber here was looking for this kind of stitches thank you for sharing keep smiling and keep vloging 🇬🇧
Thanks for subbing!
very nice work ❤❤
Thanks a lot 😊
Hello I just giving try of cross stitch for first time 😅
Curious at how you are placing your stitches - Is there a name for this? I am familiar with the Danish and English methods (as we call them here in the US) but stitches are left to right, with bottom thread running bottom left to top right, crossed with the top thread going from bottom right to top left. Victorian method same crossing direction except worked right to left on the fabric. I have never seen this method .... Just curious!!
Am I stitching wrong or is it an option to start the first stitch from the top left to bottom right? I always stitch from the bottom left to top right.
There's no right or wrong way! As long as your stitches go the same way throughout the piece, that's the important part 😄
Great vide as always🙂
Would you maybe be able to do a tutorial for fraying edges or maybe how to border to stop the fraying?
Thanks Gillian, we will keep this in mind for a future video! ☺️
Fold masking tape over the edges
Oh! I gad this problem and looked up blanket stitch as i heard thts good for stopping fraying. Theres tons of blanket stitch types snd u can use it decoratively :D after i did a blanket stitch skipping every other stitch and then doing the opposite one all the way sround it stopped my aida cloth fraying
Was super helpful and i wish i did since the beginning but im new and this is my first cross stitch. Im good at full stitches but now im here to learn others and the pattern for it
@@aidenflame1576 This girl does a great job of explaining this craft, i am new to this craft, but want to learn more.
I just use tape
Interesting: I was taught that what you call a quarter stitch is a 3/4 stitch.
👍🏻

Hi, thanks for watching!
Any way to help I’m 72 and was given this cross stitch as a hobby. How do I do different colours on same line ,do I just cut thread at the end of each square or leave it dangling till I need it again.thank you 😢
run your needle under a few stitches to secure it then cut it off. Use the loop start method if you're only placing a few stitches of a colour : )
I do my full cross stitches up from the bottom left hole diagonal to go down at the upper right hole and then up at the bottom right diagonal to down at the upper left hole. Is that an okay way to do my cross stitch?
That's sounds like the USA way, although in other comments it looks like Americans do it both ways ultimately. I think both are good as long as you are consistent.
You can go whichever way you feel is best. If you want your stitches to be neat the most important thing is to stay consistent!
Could you do an video on woven stitch?
Thanks so much for watching! 😊
We might do a video on more advanced cross stitch stitches, thanks so much for the idea!

what is the fabric name? please
Can you make a vid on afghan cross stitch pls ?
Where would I be able to sell cross stitch finish pieces?
We're not really sure but you would need to check with each designer that you they allow the sale of a finished piece.
IN USA WE GO OPPOSITE DIRECTION forgive the caps
I go the way they do (and have lived in the US my whole life, as have my parents and grandparents). But I'm just learning, and wasn't taught by my family.
I do it the opposite way too. Haha.
Yes! I belong to embroiderers guild - I have never seen cross stitch done this direction! Curious!
I stitch in this same direction so that the top thread slants towards the right, the same slant as my handwriting. I love the cross stitch sampler videos from the fabric designer Lori Holt who stitches in this same direction. It's a matter of personal preference, not a regional thing . I was born and have lived in the southern US all my life.
