  • A pound of Cure is a lifestyle eating plan designed by Dr. Matthew Weiner. Through a series of videos, Dr. Weiner breaks down the diet into manageable sections and covers each transition to the next station of the diet. This video is Month 6 where you tackle how to eliminate refined oils and substitute them for healthier options based on cooking temperature. Additionally in this video, Dr. Weiner discusses dairy and why it is a setpoint raising food choice.
Dr. Matthew Weiner is an author and bariatric surgeon who specializes in the treatment of obesity using surgical and non-surgical measures. His practice is located in Tucson Arizona.
Dr. Weiner graduated from the University of Michigan medical school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed his general surgery residency at New York University Hospital in New York City. He practiced in suburban Detroit for 12 years before moving to Tucson in 2019 where he, together with Dr. Guillermo Higa, founded Tucson Weight Loss Surgery.
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Weiner is the Director of Bariatric Surgery and the Medical Director of Telemedicine at Tucson Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) and is a past President of the Michigan State chapter a Bariatric Surgeons.
Dr. Weiner has performed more than 2000 bariatric surgeries since joining his first practice in 2006 and frequently does complicated revision surgery. He also performs general surgery with an interest in stomach and small intestine surgery along with complex hernia repair.
In his first book, A Pound of Cure, Dr. Weiner debunks the traditional understanding of calorie balance driving weight loss and offers a non-surgical solution to those suffering from obesity through nutritional stability.
His second book, How Weight Loss Surgery Really Works: And How to Make it Work for You, is now available on Amazon in paperback and kindle. In this book, Dr. Weiner describes how the hormonal changes that alter your brain, fat stores and hunger signals are the most important component of weight loss surgery, rather than the portion control effects that have been emphasized in the past.
A third publication called The Bariatric Diet Guide And Cookbook is a cookbook for bariatric patients that offers recipes and guidance on the most effective post-surgical diet.
On his website, www.poundofcureweightloss.com, he offers more than 150 videos on a wide array of nutritional and bariatric topics. Lesson plans range from, “Preparing for Weight Loss Surgery” to “The Metabolic Reset Diet” including recipes and meal plans.
Dr. Weiner is licensed to practice in both Arizona and Michigan and even offers Telemedicine appointments. For more information call his office at (520) 420-1000 or check out his many resources below. For more videos and Facebook Live events, subscribe to his CZcams channel.

if you're looking for cheesy flavour without the cheese, nutritional yeast (aka savoury yeast aka nooch) is great. make a cheesy sauce with almond/soy milk and nutritional yeast. sprinkle on top of roast vegies, on avocado toast, on popcorn, everything really

I follow Dr McDougall, Esselstyn and other plant based whole food lifestyle teachers. No meat, no dairy, etc. I’ve been eating this way for 5 months and I really am enjoying eating this way.. I has Bariatric surgery last year and after losing 85 lbs adopted plant based whole food eating. I’ve lost a total of 105 lbs and I still have a way to go before reaching my goal weight.

What about avocado oil for cooking? It has a higher smoke point than olive oil. I've heard that raising the temperature of olive oil past its smoke point creates a trans fat. What do you think?

Westsoy soy milk doesn't contain added sugar, and neither does the Trader Joe's brand soy milk/beverage--it's strictly organic soybeans and water (and costs much less than the Westsoy brand).

I use both olive oil and/or grapeseed oil. Allergic to soy, coconut, all nuts except walnut. I love cooking and I don't cook unhealthy foods outside of my weight lost plan. It is snacking potato chips, Arizona tea, skins, late night. Thanks 😊 for caring & sharing. My medications also contribute to weight gain. Burned out on my favorite Protein Drink. I will make it. Praying for you all too!!!

Is that yogurt vegan because if it’s not it’s not something you should consider there’s a lot of additives including aspartame which is sweet poison that people are consuming in their yogurt
You could teach people how to make their own vegan yogurt or they can take a cue from this post and start doing their own research
I do not recommend commercialized anything because you can control the ingredients much better which means you’re eating healthier food
But also yogurt is generally made from dairy so that’s not ideal at all which I didn’t get the impression watching this video for the first couple seconds if that’s what you were getting out when you’re telling people to avoid dairy
    Super important
And if you need a reason why I’m gonna go ahead and share a link here please watch the video and share it with everyone because people honestly do not know what is going on in the food industry and they need to have the education to make Choices that are better for themselves
Being vegan is not a cult even though some people act like it’s some elite group it’s just a bunch of people who have different beliefs and different reasons for doing it and some of them are junk food vegans which is not the message we’re trying to send
So the good doctor here doesn’t realize that some protein is very dangerous he’s telling you not to eliminate entirely just to reduce it no amount of dairy is good for you and the video below will explain why that is because it just so happens that mad cow disease is a protein but before you laugh And ignore make sure you watch the video anybody who likes Oprah know that Oprah put her life and her career as well as her reputation online to bring this message to the public and you probably are one of those people who didn’t get it so please watch

I am not really a cheese person. I already eat vegetables, fresh fruit. However, I am retired, and live alone and I can go almost all day and evening not hungry but start getting hungry from 10:p.m. throughout the night. I know better, just have to get back on track. The worst thing/habit I started was drinking the Arizona Watermelon Tea. This is where my weight gain came from. And other nick snacks, less water. I have little to choose from as Food Allergies, tired of chicken, do ok with Turkey, Fish, Tuna, Fresh Veggies. Watch Dr. Matthew daily, get recipes, just need to exercise too! Getting back on track. Thank you!
