- "Waltz for Debby" is a jazz standard composed by pianist Bill Evans. He recorded it as a solo piano piece on his album New Jazz Conceptions (1956). Lyrics were written by Gene Lees. "Debby" in the song title refers to Evans's niece, Debby Evans.
"Waltz for Debby" is known in Swedish by the name "Monicas Vals"; lyrics were written by Beppe Wolgers; and in Finnish by the name "Ankin Valssi"; lyrics were written by Jukka Kuoppamäki.
When pianist Milcho Leviev realized that the song is based on a Chopin etude, he reworked it on a Bulgarian time signature, and called it "For Fred and Bill in Time". - Hudba
Love how Oscar always honored other pianists in the best of ways and without hesitation spoke of their greatness. What a beautiful man
This has to be one of the most beautiful jazz songs ever

That bassist is ripping too.
The great Ray Brown
I love Oscar Peterson so much. I’m excited every time I’ve discovered he’s performed a rendition of a song I love.
Oscar istedadlı bir insan idi! Bill Evans də möhtəşəm pianist idi!!! Oscar Bill-ın nəğmələrin götürüb hörmətli yaratdı öz repertuarında!! Allah rəhmət eləsin! ┌(・。・)┘♪
wow, thats what jazz is all about. Colorful harmonies, funky rhythms, and classic melodies
A great jazzman shows of his relaxed musical style
A gift from the gods.

俺こっちの方がイイヨナー。
Sounds like Oscar plucks the strings inside the piano directly at 3:35. Weird chord 👽
a little Chopin influence 0:29 - 0:35?
the tune was written by bill evans, who based it on a chopin etude
@@prismicmusic which chopin etude? there are all kinds of references in bill's original version and oscar's. Ill have to track down which chopin pieces these are coming from.
@@TwelfthRoot2 Did you find which etude(s) he references?
@@hechbaan i havent looked yet. give me a week
@@TwelfthRoot2 did you find it?

all men in the 60s looked like they new how to play jazz 😂
Oscar had more skill but Bill had more soul
They both had great skill and great souls. Just different skills and different souls. I would respectfully take the autograph from Peterson, and in front of Evans I would silently fall to my knees.
