John and Kristina purchased a 50ft Jeanneau Sun Odyssey with just a few weeks sailing experience. They set sail mid last year and are making their way north to the Great Barrier Reef as part of their Australian Sailing Series with dreams of one day sailing the world.

In 2014 we visited the same group of islands on a catamaran. My husband and I got married on a small island between Paros and AntiParos. These memories will be forever in our hearts. Watching your videos brings me back to that very special and happiest moment of my life ❤️ Thank you from Canada.

Life is so funny! When I was 14 holidaying with my family we met an elderly couple that was sailing around Europe as their retirement. From that moment on I knew what I wanted to do in my retirement. Fast forward to last year and I thought it would be WAY too big off a dream to ever become true until I was holidaying on Hamilton and just fell in love with sailing again. Looking at sailing videos on CZcams I find this Melbourne couple that just did it, went out learned it and went sailing. So I thought if they can so can we! We've now finished our Competent Crew and are currently studying for our Day Skipper Theory.

We were there in shoulder season (late May) a few weeks out from peak season I believe. It’s a great time to go to miss the crowds and still have good weather. Couldn’t imagine being there in peak, peak season 😅

Congratulations to the happy couple! The difference in perceived waves is the depth of the water. 99% of those waves were underwater. Your earlier experience was anchored in shallow water. Those waves crawled up the seabed and became breakers.

Oh... Dos! I hope the electric blanket it on, a hot water bottle is under one arm and a cup of tea is in hand! Did I ever tell you how I survived winter down there????? I literally had a heated vest. Yep. A vest, that was essentially an electric blanket. I wore it to work everyday, even if it was a 'fashion' criminal offence! haha...

It’s truely unbelievable. What are the chances?! And the funny thing is, only a few months prior I was chatting to Jono about sailing charters in Greece for his honeymoon!!! And then.. BOOM, we show up!!? On the same island… And we take them for a sail!!!! 🤣🤣 ABSOLUTELY NUTS! It truely is mind blowing how life plans out sometimes.

@@KristinasTravels ... I'm actually moving to Europe. My daughter will come and go. I think you mean the Adelaide consulate for initial appointment. The Greek Embassy is in Canberra, that's the final step. Sydney was an even longer wait. We're in Brisbane and the first appointment was much quicker. Why can't you start this while in Greece? That aside once your initial appointment is done ... it takes time. My daughter has a contact in Greece who helped update her. If you want more input ... best we chat privately. Your time in Greece now is just incredible.

Hi there 😊 how did you find the Sense 51? Interestingly I ve been eyeing up the 43 ( fits our budget better) has a great monohull/cat feel to it...unfortunately the 43 was only in production for 2 years, so not many on the market ..who knows maybe our budget will grow !
Hey Penelope, the sense was great! Agree with your comments about cat feel regarding space. It maybe didn’t sail quite as well as the sun odyssey (who cares when your cruising through right!), maybe because it’s got an extra 0.5m beam and in mast furling, but the usable space form clever layout was great. The v birth is further forward into the bow as there’s no sail locker up front and there was noticeably more movement up there when on anchor. Really liked the pedestals at the helm for the nav gear and the swim platform too 👌🏻 we got lucky with this one as it had generator, aircon, and dishwasher. I don’t know why they stopped making them, they’re great! If you weren’t sure, you could always charter one and see how you like it 👍🏻 good luck with your boat hunting 😃

You didnt get the big waves as you were in open water. Your previous experience was with waves landing on a beach with decreasing depth with waves landing on a beach which is why they were so much bigger (like a surf beach)

how are you guys feeling that this sea has not any dangerous creature at all ?
Well... compared to Australia, this feels tame!! We didn't spot much marine life at all compared to back home, we felt incredibly safe. I just looked it up.. there have been just 15 shark attacks in Greece in the last 170 years, with just one fatality.
Waves compress and increase intensity when the seabed rises. 3 years ago you where near shore in this video the seabed was not relevant. For the same reason in case of a tsunami you are safer at sea far from the coastline where the seabed rises.
Very true, it was very frightening and exhilarating! 😳 Would have been crapping myself if that happened to our boat! Glad we were naive and had no idea what was going on at all! Now we just know what's going on 50% of the time haha🤣😉
Greece has 3054 islands.. (; not 6000.. but cool videos.
