I have never played League, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't have a story mode. Overwatch 2 is confirmed to have a story mode, so unless they do some Resident Evil type stuff, probably not gonna happen, probably won't need to happen (depending on how good/bad the story is in OW2)

Arcane's target audience was never League players, it's just whoever wanted to see the story, which it succeeded, most of it's audience doesn't play League. Blizzard could very easily do the same, and Overwatch in it's peak, if I'm not mistaken, had the highest active player base of any online game at the time, so they definitely have the audience too.

I think I like Sojourn, but what I don't like is how she seems even more cybernetic than Genji.
Because from a story perspective, Genji entire purpose is to ask the question: *Am I am man or am I a machine?* And what makes this question even more poignant is the world of Overwatch is asking a similar question: *Are Omnics machines or do they deserve the rights of man?* So if Genji a man even if he is a machine? Does the question even matter anymore?
And part of what made Genji's existence so hard at a personal level was that those answers didn't exist yet. He was the first foray into the unknown, the first attempt to bridge the human the robotic at a level beyond just a prosthesis. That's what made Genji really interesting, how both the player, the characters in-universe, and Genji himself didn't understand who he was. But we all hoped that through him, we would understand more about the nature of being a man, being a machine, and how we all view ourselves.
But if you throw Sojourn into that mix, than all those question are completely gone. Because she seems even more cybernetic than Genji yet she totally sees herself as human. So why is Genji having a crisis when his commanding officer is even less human than he is but she still has her identity?
Before Genji's struggle felt really understandable because he the was the only one in the entire world struggling with it. But the instruction of Sojourn takes that away from Genji and in doing so, it takes a way a huge part of his character, that question of what it means to be a man or a machine. And both Genji and the Overwatch world seems that much less interesting, because instead of asking the player/audience to ponder and consider that question for themselves, the game jsut gives us answer in Sojourn.
There is something powerful about ambiguity in media because it forces us to think and engage with said media even though we will never get a concrete answer. But we try anyway and sometimes, that question means more than and answer we could be given. But for some reason, OW decided to give us the answer in Sojourn. But I don't think it was worth it when that question made us players engage with the world and the characters. That question was worth so much more than the simple answer we are being given.
You... Your dedication to Overwatch, never changing your profile picture or your name for such a long time...

Her origin video is pretty much "I joined... then I left" and now "I am stuck in a boring meeting answering a dumb question."
Considering the developers have said "They didn’t want the first Black female character’s debut to feel trivial” they just gave her the most trivial origin video in Overwatch ever.
There is NO STORY in her origin story. There is nothing there. Her origin story is unique, cause she left Overwatch with zero drama, no trauma (despite what appears to be massive cybernetic replacement) or any memorable or outstanding moments, or any enemies or life goals.

@@Crocthunder blizzard have made a statement and are making a concerted effort to not allow any developer or employee to be referred to or references in overwatch after the Jesse Mcree saga. Poor Dev team can't even put their own signatures and such in the content the create.

I wish there was a new journey right around the corner, but there can be no more hope while Activision is still in charge. 30 minutes before this video was posted there was a new article about the lawsuit in which Activision was found likely to be paying politicians to interfere with the investigation.
It's such a shame that all the passionate, skilled people working on Overwatch have to be caught in the middle of this terrible situation. Don't get me wrong, everything Blizzard's been doing for the last few months has been a shitshow. And maybe some of the people on the team are partially or even fully to blame for the toxic work environment. I just hope everyone comes out the other side better.
Same, this is how many of us feel about OW and Blizz in general. Microsoft needs to clean house badly, get some new management/devs.
@@LeonHawkeye Unfortunately they can't do that for awhile, otherwise they would have. Realistically, it will probably be no less than a full year or two before Microsoft can start making major decisions like that.
@@OccuredJakub12 there have been 0 reports coming out about the OW team having anything to do with it. It's been literally any other part of Blizzard, but nothing on the OW team.
Only real talk about OW team was that their higher ups, the higher ups of Blizzard, were involved, and Jesse McCree, who worked on Diablo.

Her last words actually made me tear up a little because it also fits to the current situation where OW as we know it will end but at the same time OW2 will arrive and with it new experiences to make. I have the feeling that Sojourn and Baptiste could go well together because both of them want to protect their team members and bring them home safe. It feels so good to have a new origin story to watch and to get to know a new character from the world of Overwatch.
My thoughts exactly! I’m writing a story about Baptiste that takes place after the events of “Zero Hour” and plan on including Sojourn in it!

almost 800 days later and we finally got a new origin story. very hyped
In the heat of battle, I already mix up "Bastion" with "Baptiste" in voice sometimes, can't wait to get "Sojourn" confused with "Soldier". It's not like we exhausted all the letters of the alphabet for initials, we still got F, K, N, Q, U and V. Guess I'll just call her Vivian.

Let's just say there is a THICK layer of anticipation for this hero
Not bad, not bad. Though we've known about Sojourn for a while now, nice to see a bit more backstory for her. I believe the closed beta (or was it alpha?) starts soon so hopefully we learn more about her and any other new heroes they're planning soon. The anniversary event this year is incredibly lackluster so here's hoping that the upcoming OW2 content will make up for it.
