Chris Lukhup (the Shrimp King) took Cory to catch wild aquarium fish at an artificial "hot spring" in Germany. Many of these species are actually invasive tropical fishes that are able to live here yearround at 29°C. They found guppies, Endler's livebearers, mollies, convict cichlids, Malawi cichlids (Pseudotropheus socolofi or powder blue cichlid), guppy grass, ducks, red jewel cichlids (Hemichromis genus), ghost shrimp, self-cloning crayfish, and goldfish. This location often attracts local children who come to feed and catch the fish for fun. However, the water is tinted bluish-gray, perhaps from dissolved lime, so the fish do not fare well when taken home to normal tap water. It was such a unique experience getting to soak in the warm water, feed them by hand, and feel them nibbling on our legs.

Where in Germany is this?
@@sjoervanderploeg4340 i watched the Video for 1:07 minutes and found the place... use your head
@@sjoervanderploeg4340 Wassergarten der Grube Reden, Am Bergwerk Reden 11, 66578 Schiffweiler
This is in a small village called Landsweiler-Reden in the southwest of Germany. I only live a couple minutes away
I think it's safe to say that a lot of us found this video incredibly healing to watch. To watch the two of you go off into the streams discovering fish like two young boys led by wonder and curiousity, feels like the part of youtube and humanity we need to connect with more often. Keep those feet wet, and the smiles wide. This really made my morning.
Nothing healing about putting wild animals in cages .....
Hahah his very German outrage at the graffiti and locks - cracked me up! What a cool place to visit
And then immediately touch moss as a pallette cleanser 😅
But I agree with him
His thoughts are shared by civilized people of all countries.
@@DB-ek5kd They can have that in NY not in Europe I am sure we survive without it.
@@adambohlin5112Unfortunately, Frankfurt is filled with graffiti.
I know a place just like that in the UK. It has warm water but instead of it being natural it comes from a factory. It is filled with guppies, shrimp and swarms of pea puffers. The pea puffers shoal in such huge numbers and it's honestly incredible. It's like my own special paradise that barely anyone knows about. I love going there and finding what other creatures live there. I get surprised by new species every so often. Last week I netted a celestial pearl danio. Places like this are so interesting!
That's wild to have pea puffers and CPDs
Comon show us a video.
Where is this please? Brit here and didn't know there is such a place
Where abouts is that?
@@AquariumCoopgo there cory!
There used to be a similar place in St. Helen’s, England in the 70s and 80s. Hot coolant water from a glassworks was discharged into the adjacent canal making the water warm as a bath. Fish consisted of Convict cichlids, Tilapia zilli and millions of guppies. Sadly the glassworks closed down and the water returned to its normal cold temperature. Used to love going there.
Same , same but different. In Slovakia, outside of Bratislava is oil rafinery and hot coolant water is discharged into small creek. I was never there but from stories its full of guppies and Red swordtails.
I've lived in st helens all my life round the corner from the range, where the canal is, my dad told me story's that alligators were once spotted there. Whether that's true or not i don't know, typical dad storys. The canals name is "The Hotties" which its still referred to as to this day although barely inhabitable for a carp.
Similar story in the Netherlands. In the 60s-70s guppies were released into coolant water from a powerplant and from that evolved a population of colorless giant guppies that could reach sizes of up to 12cm, but those are all gone now.
@@Orwellian-Purple-Grapes-1984 do you have a source for this, because thats honestly amazing.
Right now there's a place under a highway in Washington DC that has a few dozen tilapia because of a nearby power plant.
I could play here all day! Just amazing how all these species are not only surviving but thriving as well.
Cory, this was a wonderful video! Like two kids discovering new fish for the first time. Loved every moment. Thank you
It was so fun for it to be that warm in the water and so freezing cold outside.

I loved seeing the variation in mollies. I’ve never seen them with blue like that!
Chris' freshwater shrimp photography is legendary

Thanks for taking us along on this adventure!
oh wow, this was wonderful! Thank you for sharing this moment with us!
So kool to see you and Chris nerming out, and having fun doing it. Thanks for sharing 😊
Cory and Chris have wonderful on screen chemistry. Loved this video!
Best US & German Coop ever ❤😂
i hope one day we can do this with you also.
I hope too ❤
Thank you Cory for sharing such a wonderful place
What an adventure! Nothing better and more exiting than having a field day in the wild and finding cool things 😁
There's are place in Germany, called the Guppy Bach. It's getting the same way warm water like this place but it's more natural with really unique colors and big variety offf species. Maybe if you swear don't catch any fish and take it home or somewhere else, someone off the knowing one will tell the secret location. If you want see videos there are some on CZcams about the "Guppy Bach".
Wish you luck, you guys have to see it, it's just beautiful
- 20:45 I think you were right about the man in the van. He must be taking the colorful cherry shrimp and pretty fishes to sell, that's why they are no longer in those waters. I guess if they're invasive, it shouldn't matter, right !? Idk. 🤷🏽♀️
What an amazing video! I always love it when you put the camera under water . Why do the fish keep surprising me?? I don't know. Good job and congratulations on the recent milestone! It's well deserved . I'm glad to see you a bit more chipper as of late. For a while there , it was obvious you were a little out of sorts on your direction. I'm glad you've found it.
Last year I went to a warm spring in West Virginia that had thousands of guppies that would jump out of the water if you scared them. Apparently they date back to the 1940s and their genetics are unique for being the oldest guppy lineage in the USA.
It's amazing seeing these fish in such a cold areas thriving, it brings back childhood memories, almost every suburb in my city has a creek like this and we used to go down to the local creek and catch these types of fish, the feral guppies were my favourite with all the different colours and tail shapes, Thanks for sharing, I love these types of videos from you but at the same time I know they take a lot to do in travel and expenses, the kids there must love it and it's great to see adults like you two with the same enthusiasm and excitement as I still get to this day checking out new creeks 🙂
This video was so much fun!
Got cross at the graffiti and locks...then stroked moss to calm himself down 😂
Great video from what I've seen, but you never went to Idaho and their hot springs? They even have a creek with sword tails and guppies
I've never been, I should research it and go.
Second this, Cory the PNW is dotted with volcanic and manmade hot springs. I also think you should definitely 😂 drill for hot water under your pond and have one in your yard.
@@Heterogeneitylol how much would that even cost to get the hot water 😂
Thanks for this video 👍
Great to seen Cory smiling and getting his feet wet
The density of life in that hot spring is crazy!
Loved seeing this. Now I have going to a hot spring with topical fish on my wish list.
How dope that would be to have warm water running all year around. The possibilities would be endless! Cool video!
Great vid. Chris is awesome 🤘🏼
Your shorts were a perfect contrast to a gloomy day.
😄
would love to visit germany one day to try currywurst but for now i go to aldi
I have always wanted a heated outdoor pond that stays heated in the winter. The steam coming off the pond on a snowy winter day, watching my tiny fish still swimming even though it's below 30 out.
A dream that will one day be a reality (I just need to stop renting)
corie the collector is my favorite corie
Oh I loved watching this! It must have been so amazing!
That was fascinating....they shouldn't be, but there they are. Amazing how they seem to be thriving.
It's beautiful there. Thanks.
What an amazing, incredibly interesting video. Made me think what if you could go to a place like that and net your own fish. Not knowing what exactly you may catch for your aquarium. Would be so much fun. Thanks for the video.
I loved the black/shiny gold molly! So stunning! Thanks for the video on a Friday!

@@tungsten2009 yes I ended up buying some and breeding them I love the little fry so fun!
This was cool, thanks for sharing.
It’s crazy how you always bring me back being aquarium hobbyist again. Now this time I’ll make a pond. And watch the growth last time I was lucky to get off springs from mollies, guppies and platies. I lost them and my passion due to my filters leaked and all the water from aquarium flooded out😢
That was a fun video to watch!
Greetings from Ukraine! The location looks very cool! There is a place in Ukraine where many guppies live. There are sewage treatment plants. And there is always warm water. Specimens there grow very large.
15:48 this is why you don't just trust experts you always ask an explanation and that is how expert should act as well. the curious nature of being a child gets drilled out of you throughout schooling and parenting that is why you always answer every 'why' question they have
Well - that was different. Thanks for sharing.
This video literally made my day!!!❤ Watching and listening to Cory and Chris exploring and catching fish was so nostalgic! Thanks for bringing us along! I felt like I was there with you, just magical! ❤❤
Hope u can come to Bonito/Brazil one day. Fish life is incredible here!
This is a very good video, dude, it looks like a natural preserve.😊
А у нас на Урале только гуппи встречается в прудах охладителях и в чашах градирен тепловых электростанций.
That was so cool!!!
AAAAAAY CONGRATS ON 1 MILLION MAN 🎉
So cool! What a fun adventure ❤
Thanks for sharing.
The part about the shorts made me smile. I lived in Germany for a while and to imagine them putting on Hawaii shorts and go outside 😂
This is great you can have tropical fish and the can not spread to other areas because its to cold
you are really crazy..lol....only guy in germany with tthe Hawaiian short pants out on a winter day.
The intro is a falsehood you have a special breed in northern europe. those guys that go to things like scouts or giro when you are in belgium and those guys where shorts in the winter. they are a special breed
Congrats on 1 million!
Awesome place to restock your fish tank.
There was a power station in the UK that had a warm water run off from the cooling towers where somebody introduced guppies, they seemed to adapt to staying in the area where the temperature suited them best.
Amazing video! I've never heard of this place. Man,... wish I could go!
17:09 I fully agree with that statement, the only problem is most people and law enforcement don't know the rules persee
Great video Cory, many thanks.
Any idea what the name of the ambient music is around 24:40 ?. Thanks
Awesome video!
Cool video. Stay safe out there
those are beautiful mollys
17:00 Kids coming to take things is cool, so long as they know these fish do not belong there and so they cannot just go and dump them out somewhere else
even if they dumb it somewhere else, no chance a tropic fish can live past winter in germany.
there are countless places in germany where tropical fish have established themselves over decades. @@onlyhc7792
@@onlyhc7792 Yeah, these invasives are not a problem as it's just this area they can ever occupy.
That was really cool.
I want to go there!!
it looks so nice, i would like to make a big experiment and see whats is the most sucesful fish from petshops in a place like that :D like discus, frontosas etc xD
Nice expedition.
Go to Berkeley springs in West Virginia. I guess they have the same thing going on there
Love this! I've been thinking about doing a tank with fish I've collected from my native area( I know you're not from Germany lol) going to have too look up the law around that near me.
Small correction: Chris Lukhaup's name is slightly misspelled in the description!
Hallo can you tell me where is it in Germany ?
there used to be a spot on the canal in st helens UK called the hotties which used to have a hot spot because of a local factory
Ah! Chris once kindly shared the location of wild tiger shrimp with me c. mariae (here in China) - I went to go and see them and they're still there, still thriving!
There is somewhere in Germany another small river with Guppies in it.
That is amazing.
I've never seen wild mollies that's pretty cool
I can see muppies down there, WoW...
Wild aquarium fish? This hobby is something 😂
I've had dreams like this where I go swimming someplace and there's all the aquarium fish I could ever want!
Great video! What type of iPhone case are you using for the underwater video?
Very cool place.
Now let's make our own in the backyard
Drill baby drill! (For geothermally heated water!)
Amazing!
Hi Cory great video ❤from🇦🇺
It's been a long time since I saw such a magnificent and impressive mullet.
Off of US 41, South of Naples Florida in the back canals running just outside the preserve. There's 3 inch sailfin mollies, guppies, cloud minnows, tiger oscars, cichlids, and other tropical species I don't recognize. It's brackish water at a point so also has blue crabs, mullet, snapper, etc. I grew up swimming and enjoying the thriving life there. The water is crystal clear and great during summer. Beware, there are plenty of gators that are in the water. But growing up around them, you kind of know your place and when to take a break from the water. Go with a local so can tell you when and where it's safe to tread. Bubbles are markers that should be respected and kept at a safe distance. hahaha
In the Netherlands it is even forbidden to release crayfish if you catch them
Why tho
@@Thetruthtalkedabout because they are a pest...
Wow, thanks for the video! :D :D :D
I have been there several times. The socolofi has been there at least a year.
Love the underwater shots. Strange hot water in Europe . Very interesting
Not so strange really. In the UK too.
Good video great content .
That was a fun video
Wait you were in Germany? Whooo! Willkommen and I hope you will visit again!
Very nice 👍

Did you bring back some Cologne guppies? If so, maybe I'll make the drive up lol
