Should you be using a different flex stick? We tested mini sticks, 20 flex, 30 flex, 40 flex, 50 flex, 60 flex, 77 flex, 85 flex and 155 flex to see what the best flex was for the most power. The results were pretty surprising! (we even tried mini sticks)

You should have done this vid 3 years ago, it would save me 2 years to figure it out by myself!! 😂
🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏒🏅🏆
I wonder what the mph loss is due to drag of that surface vs ice. Should do this video again on ice for a comparison.
Hi Jeremy,
I have been playing hockey for 2 years and started playing at the C level (lowest team). Over the 2 years I have been watching your videos and earned a spot of a AAA team. Keep up the good work with the vids.😊
how old r u
not in a creepy way just to see how long you have been playing for you age cus i play AAA at 12 and have been playing since 6
@@Nugget_Roblox112
@@Nugget_Roblox1 he prob payed his way in
@@Nugget_Roblox1 looks like he is 10-11 on his vid
I used to play D with an 85, dropped to 77 and 75, but now more as a forward, the last stick I bought, I actually went with an intermediate (I’m 5’7”) 55 flex. It took awhile to figure out receiving hard passes, but I like it a lot more.
I’m the same height. I buy intermediates in 55 in a pinch or 65 flex is my preferred and cut a bit off. Coming from from 100 plus flex 20 years ago slowly worked my way down. I think as the game has evolved from slap shots even at our lower levels we’ve seen players drop flex.
You are shooting g too close to the radar and the radar s picking up the speed of the stick blade, not the puck. I have a radar from Hockey Shot and you need to take some no puck test swings to be sure you are far enough away from the radar. Typically I’ve found with the radar behind the net, you need to be at the hashmarks. That’s about 25 feet away.
Well we can all agree the 20 flex makes u get the NHL level stick bend lol
Coach Jeremy is JACKED
This is so cool!! Excited for the 115 flex one!
The higher the flex the more power it will generate but you need the strength to actually bend the stick to generate the power
You're right, but for the wrong reason. The stick doesn't *generate* power. It *stores* energy you generate through strength and leverage. The second half of your statement is correct. A stiffer stick has the potential to store more energy but you have to be strong enough to load that energy into the stick.
As I have gotten older, and wiser, my flex has come down. I used to play with a 110, then an 85, then a 77 and now a 70. I wish I'd moved to the 70 much earlier.
Same here. My sticks are WAY more flexy than they were in the 80's. I still have never to my recollection taken a shot on net, because I'm in net. It is awesome how technology has transformed the sport. Even a mediocre goalie now can play the puck and help the breakout with a pass to a swooping forward on the fly.
@@sagemaster6814 indeed. My wife is a goalie, and it is amazing how even goalie sticks have changed. The new Warrior and CCM goal sticks are amazing!
Hi Jeremy its been so long since I saw a video so I'm proud of you. Keep GRINDING!
Now, you gotta test every curve with the same flex, testing for accuracy against your normal playing stick as a control.
I have a Stephen John's stick from the Dallas Stars and his flex is 120 and I had to cut it down about 2.5 inches. I can only imagine what the flex is like once I did that. It is a beast though for slap shots when you get a hold of them. I'm 6 foot 210 and I have to use every bit of strength and momentum to get a decent shot off.
did 143km/h which is like 90mph last spring on my kids hockey tournament. They had a competition outside the rink and I won the competition and got myself a CCM Jetspeed stick. :) I have never been muscular or big dude, just had my shooting technique which I'm now trying to pass to my kid :)
I love the vids keep it up!
Noticed during one of your slow mo replays that your bottom hand arm is bent when you shoot. Try to keep it straight through the whole shot for more power. Picked up that tip from itrainhockey and it's definitely sped up my shot.
Is this for the slap shot or the wrist shots? Also what time stamp did you find it on I am curious.
Hello. What coverage do you use ? Does it scrething the stick?
Is there any chance it’s picking up swing speed instead of puck speed? That would make a lot of sense.
nice video , ideally would have been nicer to use same brand for more consistency but still fun to watch , well done .
No 100's in your test?
I think it's less about how much flex and more about how hard the shaft snaps back. A wet noodle has the most flex of all but it if it doesn't snap back hard there is no release of energy. So for me, a real pro stick made from the best materials is the way to go. If you look around you can find used ones or pro returns.
Also, I wonder how long those flexy sticks retain their snap before they start to wear out and lose energy. The NHL guys can use a new stick every night. I want a stick to last over 5 years.
How are these multisport tiles vs a standard shooting pad or synthetic ice, when it comes to friction etc?
5:00 I'm a Texan who got into hockey later in life so of course his slapper with a mini is better than mine 😂
omg coach jeremy i didnt know you were that buff!!! ahahahha
I feel like the radar gun is a bit flawed and sometimes picking the stick swing speed instead of the puck
I saw Buchnevich hit 91mph on a wrist shot on TV, nhl average wrist shot is like 80, it’s pretty hard honestly
Damn
one and only way to test this correctly is to test it with same length of sticks with different flex. Flex and your shooting technique is changing with length of the stick. Thanks for video anyway
does the stiffer stick win in puck battles?
I swear flex has more to do with height than strength. I'm 5'8 200lbs, I use either a cut down 75 or 65 flex because I just seem to get more pop from the whip.
If you do break your sticks just try to find a integral stick repair place in USA/Canada if you in either of em
Hey what would you recommend for a radar gun? I'm renting out my local rink for me and some of the kids and I want to do a hardest shot type thing with them but I keep seeing inconsistent reviews for radar so unsure what's good/sufficient
Pocket radar (primarily used for my baseball stuff) is what I used, top 98 mph. On video too
Integral stick repair has fixed my sticks before
What about the 10 flex jet speeds?
True actually released a 10 flex
what tiles do you have on the floor there? looks like a sweet setup
My shot is best with a 77 flex however the stick doesn’t make it through the season and I play D level beer league so I want my sticks to last a few seasons lol
My top shot speed was 116km/h (72mph) and I’m 13 but it’s possible that the speed gun was flawed cause at a different place my top was 105km/h
(slap shots of course)
I did this test with my HockeyShot radar with a bunch of different flex sticks, 58 (intermediate shaft) and 60, 65, 70 and 75 (senior shaft). I’m 5’8” tall, average build.
With slap shots and wrist shots, the 65 was the highest speed, with 60 and 70 not far behind. Stationary snap shots and toe drag snap shots were highest speeds with 58 flex, with 60 not far behind, and 65, 70 and 75 showing speeds dropping off significantly. Seeing as I’m a forward that likes to shoot close to the net and do quick one-timers, I use a 58 or 60 flex stick. When I play defence I use a 65 flex, which is my spare stick.
Makes sense. I'm your same height, 200lbs and my defense sticks are cut down 75's, forward is a cut 65.
Nice video
You are the goat
Do this again but on ice this winter.
with my 75 flex cod v sherwood i ripe 95s mph
Video or it didn't happen haha
@@HadenHiles ya did it 3 times but can say i did it at least
I use a 135 flex, simply because as a defenseman my crosschecks to the small of the back of the forwards in front of my net hurt them more, with the bonus being the sticks break less often.
A couple other factors when choosing a flex are durability (if you're not loaded, stiffer sticks will last longer), feel (stiffer sticks generally have more touch and control), and ease of release. You might be able to get the same power of shot off with many flexes, but in a game you don't always have the chance to load up perfectly, so a little less flex maybe makes it easier to get more out of that off balance quick release in the slot. Also, you guys were probably getting tired as you tested the stiffer sticks, and probably weren't able to put as much into them. I think the other commenters mentioning the radar gun picking up the stick speed might also have a point.
What radar gun did you use? I have the HOCKEYSHOT EXTREME HOCKEY RADAR and it's faulty, didn't work for me.
If I try to go 100% power I'm less consistent of a shot, but if I turn it down a notch I get almost the same power but more consistency with power and accuracy and less fatigue.
What kind of electric heater did you install in your sauna?
I think alot of shot power comes from good technique. My 13 yr old son who weighs 150 lbs uses a 65 flex Agent has a consistent mid 70's wrist shot. Strength is important but not everything.
should have cut the chara stick down and made the flex even higher. i bet it would work better if you could be able to actually swing the stick and lay into it correctly.
It also depends on your weight
He got moneyyy u know shattering is careing
I’m 13 and I shoot 85
Hi, I like your video so much I use the app
Hope it's helping your shot!
I am playing in England so i did a video about skills in hockey that you need to learn in British way
Shoot from a bit farther back boys ;) not right infront of the net, go back further top of hash marks type vibe
Hey jeremy im 13 and im using à 50 flex is that good?
Im 14, 5 foot 10 and 120 pounds. What stick flex should i get?
I have the same radar gun and I did 109km/h last summer with a slapshot
Are you sure you are measuring in mph and not kmph? Those wrist shots hitting 70 mph is like NHL level. I'm not believing it.
I saw u take a pic with my boys
This is a good video😊😊
I think my flex is 75, it’s a sling
I think I could add +6mph per stick on the ice 😎
I once hit 97 miles per hour on a 55 flex aplha lx pro(12 years old)
Cap
Nasher would hit 50 on the clappers
I wish i had the money to play hockey
i am ten and i used like 70 flex
Awesome
Probably
65 wins my guess
This radar gun is waaayyy off lol. Let’s not forget Jeremy topped out at 60 at the CCM factory😂
60 was the sweetspot for long for me but they are so fucking fragile, broke 10-15 per season. Moving up to slightly longer 87 was the right call. But moving back from that no way in hell I'd go lower than 70 again 😅. 60 is a slingshot
I’m 13 and I’ve been playing hockey for around a year and a half and I shoot 77 mph
You should let Mason use the mini stick
try hoapa
please:3. :3:/ :( :)
What flex should a ten year old use
im 13 and my wrist shot is 48-52 range and my slapshot is around the 68-71 range
dang
good
Ovie is 240 with 87 flex. The rest of us should be using 50 flex
Are you using real pucks?
Buddy, I'm 12 years old, and my hardest shot is 93 with a 30 flex
my friend shoots 108
Some seven year olds can use a 30 flex
youre also getting more tired as you move up, might be affecting data
Im 13 my best is 80 mph
I use a 20 flex and I am 10 years old
haden doesent even know how to let a clapper go @13:48 pause the video when his shot is wound up and il brake down everyting wrong with it 1. feet positioning his back leg is facing forward while its great to know he super flexible this is not a practicle way to generate force from your back leg next to impossible on ice and still super inefficent on a surface like this it shhould be pointed to coach jares house if you disagree il leave a whole point proof explanation on why its inefficent 2. puck placement the puck is way out infront of him it needs to be somewhere on the tile infront of the blue tile you can see the puck is inline with his front foot thats a one way ticket to the house league team 3. the way he uses his body weight to flex his stick ... he doesent .......stick is way to stiff for him but he can keep ego using a high flex stick
Appreciate the feedback 👏 we were just messing around though! I never practice my slap shot off the ice and I’m sure it looks a lot better when I’m able to skate 😅. Hats off to you if you can beat 82mph off ice though 🙌
85mph wristshot, 95 flex mid kick stick, w88 blade, in game situations flex 85-90 work better. In ultimate wristshot, the leg which is closer to blade should be front, and the power to shot comes from your hip
ok McDavid.
I'm 20 and I can shoot a snapshot at 93 mph
Body I’m a 10-year-old kid and I have a clap bomb of 75 miles an hour I checked

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😮😅

First
your shots are weak in 10 years old and my shots are 80mph to 90
and my slapshot is 90 to 100
Stop asking me to comment. It's not 2008.
