Saw Bob LIVE once, at Expo '86, Vancouver; did all the classics... From "Catch-22", to waking up from a dream to end "Newhart", he will always have a special place in my entertainment heart.
I love The Bob Newhart show, That cast was so perfect. It is funny without being vulgar, and it doesn't do anything but entertain you and make you laugh.
I was born exactly forty two years after Newhart came out with ‘The Button-Down Mind’ and he’s easily my favorite stand up from the era. His comedy doesn’t age.
I love Bob Newhart. Hearing him talk about his wife on the first show played by Suzanne was wonderful. They did have a great chemistry in the show and it was an amazing show. Then he says we should all loosen up a bit. Bob is a class act....Period......End of story.
Love Bob Newhart! Sadly, his wife Ginny died earlier this year - on April 23, 2023. Bob will be 94 in a few weeks. He did an interview, I think it was on Colbert about a year ago and was still cracking jokes! Last year on his birthday, he said, “I still feel like 30, except when I try to run.”
I was lucky enough to hear his 1st album when it came out - and memorize all the routines just like everyone else in the country at that time. Those same routines are just as funny today.
@@karenanderson6973 - The Pantheon means top 5,. But for honorable mentions I will include Jack Benny, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, & Buster Keaton - what he did on film was stunning. If you want to add more names to this, please let mr know.
@@theolamp5312 Oh I see. I tried to add Jack Benny to your personal top 5. Sorry. I just got excited when I saw your list of comics and had to add Jack Benny !! I loved Phil Silvers and Sid Ceaser. Don Rickles and Rodney Dangerfield. Also, Jackie Gleason.!Red Skelton!
@@karenanderson6973 - Hi Karen - and my real name is Ted. You have also reminded me of so many great comedians who have given us laughter when we most often needed it. We both forgot Ernie Kovacs. It's nice to have an intelligent conversation with someone who shares my love of classic comedy. I only wish that social media could always be so positive. Wishing you the best of everything, Ted
@@theolamp5312 Hi Ted. My middle name is Teddie! My mom used to call me Ted. It is nice to talk with someone who knows and appreciates the classic ones also. When I was a kid my dad came home with this LP by Bob Newhart. I remember that I was laughing hysterically and thought that I could actually die from laughing. He brought home, Bill Cosby, something about Chicken Heart. I have always been so grateful to my dad for bringing the gift of laughter and the joy of reading. I watch a lot of Reaction Videos. They are fascinating. You get to watch people watching something you like. To watch the young people getting turned on to George Carlin. They hang on every word he says, eyes wide open and mouth agape as they listen to what he is saying about the government, etc. Maybe you could check some out sometime. Oh, Have you have ever seen the movie "it's a mad mad mad world"? It is so funny and has many of the great comedians of the day Think it came out in the 1960s and I just saw it advertised on youtube. Sorry, this is so long. I wish you the best of all life has to offer, Teddie!
How can you tell if you're robbed by an Asian gang? Your dog is gone but your kid's math homework is done. Put that in the joke museum since you will never hear it today.
Again , a generation of advanced moral fiber and class of dignity. WW@ brought forward the BEST of us. Shall we return to such values as comedy , music and right thinking?-
"You stay out of my show and I'll stay out of yours" Thats the genius that comes out on the fly, as opposed to the hack that made me fast forward to this point. I was yelling at him to shut up and leave the comedy to Bob. Even when it was written for him it was terrible and then in one line Bob soothed my comedy soul.
Not much about political campaigns, Carlin is better about those things. But this was very good and I'm glad you posted it and I saw it, thanks. Back in the day we did play the "Bob" game a couple times but that was it, a couple times. We were a little older than our college years.
In 2021 it is greatly refreshing to not be be-labored by political jokes. We all need a break, and a return to humor that is actually funny without a political agenda. I wish SNL could figure this out, so I can enjoy them again. Same for the Murphy Brown re-boot. We’re tired of endless lecturing, moralizing, and instruction. Let us laugh!
Now this is a true comedian. What happened to the press club that they don't invite good comedians like this instead of the rejects that think tearing down Trump and others as good comedy.
It stayed funny cuz he committed to the bit and even that he did that subtle mallet as a phone and I don't think anybody caught it he did that on purpose or hate you he switched sides with the Bob side and his side and then talking about Republican Democrat oh my God right and left, if that it couldn't have been planned if it was so subtle, and then he started talking on the phone so this boss wouldn't know that he was doing a bad job, at the same time that's so great, the reason it worked was because he committed to the bit, he kept doing it it made it, funnier
At 27 minutes in. BOB, Today's so called comedians are not fit to even shine your shoes. Unlike you, they cannot speak a sentence with using gutter mouth, and they aren't even funny. I think you agree but just don't want to offend them.. Please tear a strip off of them
He looks like an accountant who entertains other accountants. You keep hoping the next bit will be hilarious - as per the hype. Eventually, as an old man, he turned into a character: a version of himself. Kind of like when you look at a woman and think she might have been beautiful when she was young.

Bob is a national treasure for sure! 😊

Never get tired of listening to this guy😁
Bob Newhart = class and character!
14:13 - Very prescient observation in 1996. Bob is still with us in 2021 to see just how far things have fallen.
This made my day. I hope that younger generations can appreciate him as well

For my pantheon of comedians, I have Jonathan Winters, Groucho Marx, George Burns, George Carlin, & Bob Newhart.

"The Global Internet Computer Network" is what we called the internet back in 1995: It has a nice ring to it.
Bob has a lot of class.
Yep.
Without a doubt.
Alot of comedians go on stage and "do" funny...Bob Newhart IS funny!! 🤣
Skip to 8:20 for Bob Newhart.
Could you supply a link to the transcript please?
I LOVED Bob in sitcoms. Stand-ups and talk show interviews not so much.

1996. Please update description.
He owns it!

40:47 comedians of the old days

Action starts @ 0:08:00 ...
22:40 Bob, you forgot Reagan :-)

*merci beaucoup!!!*
Or 4:35, if you don't want to miss anything

LOL @1:20 “the Global Internet Computer Network”, I’m glad we shortened that and “GICN” would have been a silly acronym.
And “the goods” start @8:10.

Kind of apples & oranges.
Carlin did observational comedy.
Newhart did (does?) deadpan comedy.

Tearing Spanky down is our duty as citizens. He's arrogant and stupid at the same time.
Bob’s humour is trans-Atlantic 😇
Especially his monologue about bus driver school ...... I was trained by London Transport back in 1980, and what he jokes about is real😉
Starts at 8:08 after the MC stiff gets done with his crapola...
And to those joining on the global internet network. Killed me.
8:08
He, Bill, Jeanne, and Sindbad are the best.
loosen up people
This was 25 years ago. We should have acted faster to shut it down. Now look where it’s gone. Is it too late to fix things?
It stayed funny cuz he committed to the bit and even that he did that subtle mallet as a phone and I don't think anybody caught it he did that on purpose or hate you he switched sides with the Bob side and his side and then talking about Republican Democrat oh my God right and left, if that it couldn't have been planned if it was so subtle, and then he started talking on the phone so this boss wouldn't know that he was doing a bad job, at the same time that's so great, the reason it worked was because he committed to the bit, he kept doing it it made it, funnier
8:25 before anything happens...
“Loosen up”. Bob’s advice is even more pertinent with today’s “cancel culture” stupidity.
Does anybody know whether he has enphysema or is he just nervous?

Eventually, as an old man, he turned into a character: a version of himself. Kind of like when you look at a woman and think she might have been beautiful when she was young.
Aaa
A quarter of people have no sense of humor.
Is that a lame joke to pretend that no one can hear you but its so loud its distorted?
