Today, I arrive at a stop sign, just as a bus was approaching. And I screamed out loud, "DON'T PULL OUT!!!" And I was driving alone. All because of this sketch. Thanks, Mr. Newhart.
I’m an Englishman and I remember my Father introducing me to Bob Newhart The Driving Instructor, Defusing a Bomb,Sir Walter Raleigh,School for Bus Drivers and more at the age of thirteen his brilliance and humor have stayed with me forever now at 67 I still cry with laughter thank you for this I lost the LP my dad gave me many years ago.
Bob Newhart is awesome. A friend of mine got me into him back in the early 80's. I was lucky back in the early 90's after years of searching coz I managed to get hold of an almost mint condition copy of that LP and the only play it's had is so I could tape it. You can't beat the sound of vinyl.
I'm 66 years old now and I remember listening to this as a kid with my dad as tears of laughter rolled down his cheek.Still just as funny all these years later and brings back such happy memories of my dad.
My introduction to Bob Newhart was listening to this sketch on a London radio station in the early 90s. Dad and I nearly burst with the laughing. Wrote to Bob and he kindly sent a signed photo ❤
I just want to wish a Happy 93rd birthday to a man who has made me laugh through good times and bad. Happy Birthday Mr. Newhart. You are a legend, not only in comedy but in life itself.
My parents owned the LP record with this sketch, and I first heard it when I was a teenager, around 60 years ago. Listening to it now, I could almost recite it word for word. Absolute comic genius.
It's brilliant, still. I first heard it about 50 years ago, long before internet, so I hunted on-line ... and found it! The tobacco one is what stuck in my mind, talking to "Walt". I'm now listening to the driving lesson.
Bob on TV, while running a country Inn somewhere in Eastern USA, with his wife, had me in stitches on his late night series, most nights before I went to bed, overworked, often stressed, single Mum, back in the 1990s. Thank you Bob, forever ❤
That show took place in Vermont, was his second TV series, and was called Newhart. It had a threesome that was hilarious. " Hi, I'm Larry. This is my brother Daryl, and this is my other brother Daryl." They always introduced themselves like that, despite being known to everyone at the Stratford in.
The comics of today don’t come close to the comic genius of Bob Newhart - no swearing or foul language needed to get a laugh - I could listen to Bobs comedy sketches for hours 👍🏻
It's nice when a comic can get laughs while working clean, but to think just swearing is going to get cheap laughs every time is ridiculous. You try getting on stage and using an f-bomb as your punchline in every joke and see how many laughs you get. It doesn't work that way. Successful comedians who don't work clean also require talent. Side note: Redd Foxx is from the same generation as Bob Newhart.
@@myaccountvideos what makes brian regan even more funny is knowing that he actually has a temper irl similar to bill burr. The way he reacts to stuff in his bits is far more sarcastic than what is apparent. I heard a comedian talking about brian say this.
I remember Bob Newhart from back in the 60’s. yeah. I’m THAT old. I loved every show. Back in the days of direct television. No swearing. No video stuff. The Personalities of that era were magnificent and were able to keep us laughing non stop. A lot different to today,s comedy. I wanna go back to mid sixties. LOLOL.
I'm an old crone now. The 1st time I heard this was when I was a child-laughed so hard! Don't know why I suddenly remembered it a month or two ago? LMAO!! Still as funny as I remember!
This is my favorite Bob Newhart sketch. I have it on a cassette. It makes me me laugh so hard. I love your humor so much Mr Newhart. You are so funny. Thank you from Canada 🇨🇦 😅
This was great! I’m a young 76. In my early years I worked for the NYS and then California DMV giving road tests. Compared to my jobs…these folks had it way worse. Thanks for posting this comedy!
I am having an 'off' time at the moment... but this took me back to the times when we used to actually laugh at something funny. I sat here laughing as I haven't done for ages. Still one of his funniest ones I think!
The absolute best one for me. And you are right, ,the age of "intelligent clean comedy" seems long dead. When I was a kid my dad had a 8-track full of Bob Newhart, that was the first time I ever heard him and 44 years later he still makes me laugh hard. It was pleasant to see him crop up in "The Librarians" actually.
I have always, always loved Bob Newhart. My family, along with most other American families, watched the Ed Sullivan Show every Sunday night and I first saw Bob on that show. He also put out comedy albums back in those days and we loved listening to those, too. When he got The Bob Newhart Show, I watched that every Saturday night and just loved it. "Buttoned Down Comedy" was how Bob described his style.♥
Oh my god....when I was a kid, in the late sixties, my mother had this on record. I’d forgotten all about it. When my own kids were little we would drive into an empty car park and I’d go into a driving instructor mode with a Mrs Webb. You know the sort of stuff....making the car jump with the clutch, sliding etc etc. I never could figure out where it came from but my kids loved it. I’m going to forward this via Spotify. I’ll bet money they’ll get the reference lol. Love it.
First heard my parents' Button Down Mind LP in the 60s. So many truly funny routines. But the Driving Instructor is as near absolute perfection as a comedy monologue can come.
Absolute comic genius, the alley driving really throw me - My parents had the LP and I have loved this ever since. I love the bit when he isnt going to make it between the truck and the building --- and then there is more to come...
My favourite, even above Tommy Cooper, this man always makes me laugh especially on this sketch. Always remember my wife having a problem with left and right on the indicator stem when I was teaching her to drive, this sketch always comes to mind. Priceless.
Brilliant though Bob Newhart is, this isn't exactly "American" humour, as it was a variation on a sketch by Al Murray, a British comedian who was hugely popular on BBC radio in the 1960s but was only a part time performer.
Oh I remember this in the early sixties on the radio, usually on Sundays on Two Way Family Favourites...... perhaps some other listeners will remember too..... still so funny too....clever man lol!....
Yes,Pammy-I too remember Bob Newhart still being played often on Two Way Family Favourites (an old ,much-missed UK radio show for those unfamiliar) in the early 70's .Fond childhood memories
"besides praying" ... "not this man's lawn" ... "The red light blinded you. The flashing red light blinded you. The flashing red light on the car you hit blinded you. Yes, officer, she was just telling me about it" ...
Love this so much I laughed so hard the first time I head it and every time after
Today, I arrive at a stop sign, just as a bus was approaching. And I screamed out loud, "DON'T PULL OUT!!!" And I was driving alone.
All because of this sketch. Thanks, Mr. Newhart.

My grandad had those on cassette, had me in stitches as a kid in the 90s. Only just found out he was Prof. Proton in Big Bang Theory.
As a Driving Instructor, welcome to my world!
I'm 66 years old now and I remember listening to this as a kid with my dad as tears of laughter rolled down his cheek.Still just as funny all these years later and brings back such happy memories of my dad.
When asked if his famous stutter ever got in the way of performing, Newhart said, 'this stutter bought me a house in Beverley Hills!'
My introduction to Bob Newhart was listening to this sketch on a London radio station in the early 90s. Dad and I nearly burst with the laughing. Wrote to Bob and he kindly sent a signed photo ❤
I love this, my mum (actually Mrs Webb) was taking driving lessons at the time it came out.
I just want to wish a Happy 93rd birthday to a man who has made me laugh through good times and bad. Happy Birthday Mr. Newhart. You are a legend, not only in comedy but in life itself.
GREAT TALENT! GREAT PERSON!
No matter how many times I listen to this...
It'll always be laugh out funny...
The 75 mph in the driveway gets me every time

You should really listen to Brian Regan. He’s funny and clean.

This is CLASSIC Bob Newhart and from his album, "The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart!"
I have this on the old vinyl LP. Every track is a winner; cracks me up every time I play it. This guy is pure gold.
Nobody could beat Newhart at this type of comedy...... sublime!!
"Don't pull out"
"Same to you fella"
"Oh now we hit someone Mrs. Webb"
Classic
I'm in tears listening to this classic again, after so many years. It never ages. Such a brilliant, funny, man.
I've heard this so often, but his timing is so good, I laugh every time.
It's also his deadpan humor that does it.
Classic comedy. Thank goodness for CZcams.

Best years ever.

still love this! even after all these years

Absolute gold and still stands up strong.
They used to play this on BBC radio in the early sixties and its still that funny....absolutely priceless!!! Wonderful stuff!!.....thanks 😚
He,s a genius storyteller, so funny!
"How fast were you going when he jumped from the car?"
Classic.
This is my favorite Bob Newhart sketch. I have it on a cassette. It makes me me laugh so hard.
I love your humor so much Mr Newhart. You are so funny.
Thank you from Canada 🇨🇦 😅
I've not heard this in years! Bob Newheart was a funny guy
Comedy in the 2nd person is difficult to pull off, but Newhart was a master!
My mother Dorothy Webb received this recording on a 45 record when she took driving instructions in the 1960's.
Bob Newhart at his most brilliance. .
Bob Newhart is a genius.

One of the true greats of comic timing. Excellent memories!
I listened to this album when I was about10 years old. A master. This album is in the National Library of Congress.
I liked him when he played in the movie, the Librarian" too
Absolutely hilarious he doesn't crack once straight faced throughout the imagining the scene and everything just makes it better.
A master at his craft.
Newhart at the top of his game. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you. 😂
Had to listen again since im teaching my daughter to drive! Hahaha! Laughter is best medicine.
I'm a driving instructor and it's almost too true to be funny!
my colleague introduced me this, this morning as i am doing driving lessons.
no word of a lie i was in tears laughing so much
what a great humourist, I keep laughing after all these years. And there's more
I haven't heard this in over twenty years, but I remembered every word.
Newly seeded, that's always the way isn't it. Classic. Wish I'd seen him in the Uk. Legend.
Priceless! Refreshingly un-PC, they don't make them like this anymore! 😂
This cracks me up every time I hear it......

Very funny man... our own Joyce Grenfell had the same hilarious style. 😊
Thank you for posting this! I grew up listening to The Buttoned Down Mind and had the entire album memorized. Brilliant performance!
Classic...thanks for sharing!!!
I learned of this from my mother. Bob Newhart is awesome. This is funny for sure. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!
So happy to have found this ! One in a life time !
I loved this as kid... Ended teaching Drivers Ed.
Well I’m 65 and I brought the driving instructor single at my school jumble sale loved it for years , always made me laugh.
I saw Newhart live in Omaha many years ago. He was hilarious.
This is hilarious 😂!! The likes of Peter Kay, Lee Evans and Mickey Flanagan will never come close to this amazing brand of comedy 🤣🤣
Listening to the audience is nearly as enjoyable as listening to the sketch.
Thanks for putting this up Dave! He was the best in my opinion. Never used foul language, just 1st class all the time :)
The teacher played this for us in my high school driver’s ed class.
first time i ever heard him scream and i'll be terrified for months
This is so funny, I always laugh when I hear it. Thank you for posting.
I remember this sketch from the album. The man is a marvel.
He is so good on these sketches. He just makes me laugh so hard because you feel you are right there.
funny thing is in the UK in the 2000 they actually did a series on driving instructors.
I heard this when I was about 19. Its still just as funny
My parents also played this album when i was a youth and still funny 45 yrs later 😂
Listening to this, makes me want to dig out the old vinyls of him and the Button Down Mind of Stan Freeberg
Heard this years ago in Uk but its before my time. Brilliant. All learner drivers should be made to listern too this. :-)))
An absolute comic genius !
This is just amazing love it. Classic
I recall buying the 45 single of this!
another world, another lifetime ago...
A true classic
I've still got Bob Newhart's album - very funny, especially the 'tobacco' sketch.
...and the 'other way of stopping'.
DON’T PULL OUT!! Oh no, please don’t start crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Newhart on top form !

Sorry, I meant Al Reed.
@@williamjohnson4117I just spat out my coffee at Bob Newhart being influenced by Al Murray

This takes me back about sixty years to "Uncle Mac" on a Saturday morning. Just as funny.
He paints a picture, u really believe its happening...
