  • While the Can-Am Spyder F3-S may not be the first one in the Can-Am lineup that comes to mind when you think about touring or long road-trips, but for the minimalist traveler who is bit of hooner at heart, it might just be the ideal option.

    MPG Note: My mpg numbers may be skewed by my type of driving and me evaluating that earlier into the break-in period. Can-Am reports about 34mpg, so I just want to be fair and share that information.

    Just got a f3s (06/07/24) 2023 model. Been off motorcycles for about 10 years and have been having a blast on mine. I do a lot of backroading In south TX on mine. Looking foward to a long trip to Las cruces NM sometime in September. So far have about 700 miles on it so time will tell.

    I bought a standard USB double motorcycle charger from Amazon and used a step drill bit to drill the hole in the accessories location right next to the ignition.
    Remove the left panel and bring the USB wires to your customer access wires located under the panel, connect them and now you have USB access on your dash right under where your phone is located.
    I would suggest getting the USB charger with the cover so that water would not enter when you are not using it.

    I Recently upgraded from a Ryker Rally to the F3 LTD. The difference is night and day. The USB accessibility and lack of LED headlights are disappointing considering the purchase price. Other than that, the only annoyance I find on the F3 is accessing the tire valve stem on the rear tire. Man, my bear size paw can barely get to it. BRP should’ve put it on the side without the drive gear. On the positive side, It’s incredibly comfortable and cruises effortlessly on the highway. I get about 220 miles to a tank but never run it down to E. I imagine I could go at least 250 if I pushed it. Compared to the Ryker, which went half as far on its smaller tank. My favorite feature is the transmission. The gearbox on the F3 blows the Rykers CVT away. I love it. Ride safe!

    Love your channel, recent subscriber. I had a 2018 CanAm Spyder RT limited for 4 1/2 years. Really enjoyed it, after riding motorcycles for past 15 years. I sold the RT last fall. Waited for the 2024 models to arrive and very soon plan to get either an F3, possibly the S series, or F3T. Availability is still an issue. Will also try the new RT. Ride safe.

    I love my F3S for back road cruising but I have found that without a windshield at speeds above 65 MPH it sorta does my neck a number. Have only had it for about a month at the time and have about 1000 miles on it. Windshield will be my first big addition.

    I bought a 2022 Ryker Sport last year and it was fun but I wanted more. I traded it for my 2022 F3-S at the end of the summer last year. I absolutely love the Spyder F3-S. It's so much more refined, faster, and more fun. The RT is not for me. I like the sporty F3 and the S model has the bigger rear pulley. I notice about the same gas mileage with the Spyder that I got on the Ryker: usually mid-30s. It's not 2-wheel motorcycle mileage at all but it's better than my Tacoma. The Spyders with the smaller rear pulley might do better for MPG's.
    I wish Can-Am had a manual trans option on the F3-S. I like shifting gears rather than the CVT but I used to ride 2-wheel bikes back in the day and I prefer manual shifting. Still, the semi-auto trans is more fun than the CVT in the Ryker, imo.
    The Ryker's pure manual steering is really great. I like feeling everything through the bars. The Spyder's power steering is not super noticeable but the Ryker's steering is raw and fun. The Spyder's bars are a bit more isolated but that means less fatigue. My hands would get numb after a couple of hours on the Ryker.
    My wife loves riding on the Spyder compared to the Ryker. The Spyder is much more setup for 2-up riding than the Ryker. That made it an easy sell to her!

    • @3WheelKhalil
      @3WheelKhalil  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Same here on the 2-up, my wife loves riding especially after I got the rear passenger backrest (love that it is easily removable). The RT doesn't feel as engaging as an F3-S. Feels a bit couchy, cool unit just not what I was looking for.

    Of course you can tour on an F3-S. I have done on my 2019 model: 2,000-mile trip from southwest Portugal to northern Spain and back. Two Shad 35-litre side bags and a 63-litre Ventura bag slotted over my rider's backrest. I have had the Ventura bag since 1996 when it went over a generic loop on a model-specific frame on my BMW R1100GS. I later slotted it over the Triple Tail on my Buell XB12X Ulysses.
    I have done 270,000 miles on conventional two-wheeled motorcycles, but I prefer my F3-S. I never use the cruise control. Touring, I get 43/44 MPG, but that's the British gallon which is bigger than the US one, and I'm not riding fast.
    Are those Icon gloves? Good video. Nick

  • @BBRFST
    @BBRFST Před rokem +2

    Sup!, I too enjoy my F3-S, I have the 2017 Daytona edition. And to my surprise Can-Am discontinued the SM6 version of the bike in 2022, having it available in a manual shift version is one of the key reasons I bought it, but I digress. My second bike is a traditional two wheeled bike which is more likely to be left at home when I just want to go for a quick stress free ride. The Daytona was the second Spyder I've owned, my first was the Spyder RS-S SM5, this was my first entry into the open air transportation arena. I sold it a little after 3 years of ownership due my job relocating its test facility across the country. But I missed it so much I purchased the Daytona, a bike I longed for ever since I first laid eyes on it. The only way I'd sell this Daytona is if Can-Am came out with a sexier (SM6 or 7 or 8) replacement for it or they introduced a sexy three wheeled EV. Cheers!

    • @3WheelKhalil
      @3WheelKhalil  Před rokem

      That Daytona edition is special, gotta ask did you keep the straight bar or eventually swap it out? Nothing quite like a Spyder, just like there is nothing quite like a traditional motorcycle. Cheers!

    I toured a lot on my F3S. It was great until the weather turned bad. In heavy rain or very cold weather, my 2020 RT is a superior machine to tour on. If I had a bigger shed, I would have both the F3 and the RT. The F3S was just such fun to ride. Check out some of my videos touring Tasmania in Australia in 2023. The F3 loved the twisty roads.

      When I bought my F3-S used it came with a giant windscreen, it didn't look to appealing to and after 10min into my first ride it had to go. It really squelched the open air feeling you get from riding a bike, if I did long freeway trips the larger windscreen might come in handy. I mostly ride on country roads, city streets, and short hops onto the freeway so the small low profile flyscreen works perfectly for me. Up above 90 tho the wind really gets your attention.
