Nice story! My vw story is my cousin having an oval window rusting in front of the house we were renting in Waialua, Hawaii! Everyday i pass by that bug, i always wished to be able to restore it. I saw that bug everyday for almost 7 years. The last time i saw it was when i went to join the navy after high school! That rusted oval opened up my love for automobiles!

Great story. My buddy had a 69 in high school(1982) and that car took us everywhere. Volkswagen Beetle is the only car in history that you could get to run off of an aluminum soda can and a plug wire off of a Chevy luv.😉 True story!

My first car is my 1969 Type 1, I purchased it in 1997 for $300 and it’s been “being restored” for the last 20+ years .. still own it still in my garage, still in 1,000’s of pieces. Your story sounds so much like mine BTW, I had a “Friend” cut the front end of my car off and this guy also brazed a brand new clip on, it was a mess. While it was at his house getting body work my engine was “stolen” out of his yard. I sold out of frustration and bought it back 10 years later..

my first bug was a $75 1966 while in high school. i won an auto-x and a road racing championship. i designed a suspension piece that HOY/VW's featured sept 1987 and is now copied by empi and others.....
