      @Distortionist Před 4 lety +2

      It is both. A keyboard doesn't have to produce sounds for it to be a keyboard, if that's what you're implying.
      His complaint was the he was unable to connect it to something like a hardware synthesizer to send MIDI data. Now, whether his claims are true I don't know, but any MIDI controller should be able to work without being connected to a computer.

      @@Distortionist After looking at the keyboard, it has 5-pin MIDI out built into the thing. There shouldn't even be a problem, lol.

    I came across my answer to this video again and it seems I forgot the important part -- HOW TO use the standard MIDI driver instead of the Roland specific one.
    For this you need to press "FUNCTION", then "ADV" (placed @ 3rd keyboard octave, C#) and then MINUS button (" - ").
    If you want to go back to the custom Roland driver, same operation but press PLUS button (" + ")
    And.. this is explained in the manual ;-)
    Hope this helps someone!

    Hey friends, what a nice debate here! I have MC-505 and had fun with d-beam. I use XV-2020 regurarily. They were good once, but eg. my friend bought SPD-S pads, they stoped to release drivers. Its planned obsoleting. Software on XV-2020 is really misserable. Anti-user-friendly. Can't use it with new mac, anyways, drivers ... But now, they made HUGE STEP FORWARD with a driver for keyboard :) And you cant say if the unit is on or off its a real problem. But there is even worse things ... I am using Digitech Jamman on stage, I run band with prepared drumloops. You can't imagine how bad this software is. Putting samples in and outside is terrible nightmare. Such a simple thing like droping a sample on sd card! I will make a video. It will be a real comedy, stay tuned. (Sad thing is, but there is no real alternative.) Ok, now relax and enjoy live act on Yamaha RS7000, real piece of hardware, where developers really THINK about what they are creating. Hail to the Yamaha engineers ! :) :D czcams.com/video/cgYMY9vAtnk/video.html And no, I am not using crystal meth.

SMH That man is old enough to know when you purchased an plug or app, the file size was a few megs and it loaded quick and simple and fucking worked - or it was not even required for you to load anything,whereas now it is a lot of shit!... 1st question did you know when you purchased it that it is only a midi controller not an electronic piano or synthesiser? It is understandable to make this fundamental mistake when you are new to the world of electronic music production. From other reviewers the keyboard seems to be a good value choice for a basic (bus powered) midi keyboard. Regarding 'midi drivers' using it with a Mac computer - no problem - also most midi controllers made since before 2000 are universally midi compliant.

All midi controllers needs a computer.I think if you connect the midi out connector to recording card with midi in you don't need to install drivers ,but you will still have to connect the usb to the power to power on the controller. To play music you will need software like cubase and from the software you choose sounds . Seems complicate but should work .Give it a try. The only problem i understand from you is why the controller dosen't power on when you connected it to direct power or computer usb - try to change usb cable . Thanks

    This A-49 sucks but not for the reason you mention (which isn't true). It sucks because the PITCH BEND only sends out 4-BIT MIDI message! FOUR. Pitch Bend is supposed to be 14-bit, so instead of over 16,000 possible pitch bend positions you get only 16! So the pitch bend sounds super steppy like an old video game or something. Totally ridiculous. I verified it by examining the MIDI messages in real time... no matter how slowly I move the pitch stick, it jumps 512 values at a time instead of 1 value at a time. Even cheap MIDI controllers send 7-bit messages (nearly 10x the resolution of 4-bit), but the A-49 is marketed as a professional level controller and in this day and age there's no excuse for not doing 14-bit which is the MIDI spec since version 1.0 in the early 80s!

It is totally unbelievable! 4-bit Pitch Bend! Can't even use it. Ok
    *inhales*
    Firstly, this is advertised as a MIDI Controller. That means that it is not designed to be powered by an adapter and play instantly. It is, for example, designed to be used with a DAW.
    Secondly, you show that you have absolutely no knowledge of how a computer works, as you say that nothing needs drivers. Without drivers, nothing you connect to your computer will work. Windows just has most drivers allready, that's why when you plug in a new mouse or something, a messege pops up and says 'Installing Drivers'. The computer doesn't have the drivers for the A 49 as it is less common.
    Thirdly, you do not have to sign into anything to download the drivers from the Roland Website.

    1. drivers are allways needed for any piece of hardware, you think you don't need them because they are mostly preinstalled by the OS, however not all drivers can be included in windows so therefore sometimes you need to install them manually...
    2. the fact that you have to provide administrator rights to the installer is because of the hardened windows security and the pw promt comes up only if you are logged in as a non-administrative user, the reason behind is that the installer has to write on your drive and is not allowed by default but this is something you should know.
    3. feel ashame how you behave in front of this poor little child!!!
    4. take less drugs and you wont have any problems with your gear anymore!!!
    Have A Nice Day!

    • @frantisek-psotka
      @frantisek-psotka  Před 5 lety

      In points 1. 2. and 4. you are wrong. You dont need drivers e.g. for mouses, because the protocol (communication) is standardized. Thus no need of drivers any more. Same with MIDI / Core Audio. The latter can be discussed in the same way. Thanks for your moral appeal and your expert insight into groving up a family and behaviour, have a nice day, too!

    I have a Roland A-49. He's right, I've just realized that I have to press the keys otherwise no sound comes out. This guy either has the driest sense of humor on the planet or he buys things without looking at them. The one that I have has 'midi keyboard controller' printed on the box. It does exactly what it should do, with the added feature of exposing idiots to the world by their own doing. This clip shows the difference between a musician and a person with a musical instrument. Very enjoyable vid. By the way drums need sticks, trumpets need wind and guitars need strings. Don't eat too many bananas people. Be warned!

    You say: "I didn't read the manual because you shouldn't or you don't need to read the manual for a fucking keyboard, it's always the same.."
    CLEARLY YOU SHOULD HAVE READ THE MANUAL. THE TIME IT TOOK YOU TO CREATE A STUPID ASS VIDEO YOU SHOULD HAVE READ THE MANUAL INSTEAD.
    YOUR QUESTION: How do I power up my Roland A49 MIDI controller with a USB power supply (without a computer)?
    ANSWER: Hold the Function, Assign, and Pitch buttons while plugging the unit in to the power supply to enable the controller to receive power in standalone mode. Once you’ve done this, each subsequent boot should work normally with the power adapter without having to press that combination of buttons.
    You are welcome.
