thanks for the video...i just bought this unit and after a month of trying and ordering different brands like the keystation and oxygen 49 and Q49/QX49,carbon 49, umx49 and panda 49(i went that far lol)...i finally pick this A49 up last...and gotta admit it's no competition. I get almost 0 latency and keybed/key action feels great. I don't use those pad/knob/slider as i have a different unit for that so IF you are looking for just a keyboard this is it. Others controller might have 8 pads...and 7 knob...200 sliders...and cheaper! but you do pay for what you get in term of roland quality and reliability. I didn't believe it so i tried them all. You should try them all before buying too and i'm sure in the end you will keep this one =) peace.
+This Immigrant's Dreams Are Beyond Control to be honest i urge you to try both....i like roland key feels...other kb feel cheap and too many knob and turn lol...this one is simple and perfect for my use.
NOTE, NOTE: The instrument can be powered without a computer, contrary to what is written in the manual ... The company does not officially provide this information, but when connecting a regular phone charger to the Roland A-49, just hold down the FUNCTION + ASSIGN + PITCH keys and the instrument it will work in STANDALONE mode (no need to connect a laptop, usb hub, etc.).
Bought the new Arturia Keylab Essential to use as a dedicated controller for my Korg Radias R .. got it and the preset select knob only works with Arturia's software, the keys aren't the best quality, and they put 8 stick on rubber feet on the bottom which are toxic smelling 😳 So back it went and I got this instead. Action (keys) are better, footprint is smaller, you can change presets on midi hardware, use the D-Beam for after touch amongst other things, has an overall higher quality build, comes in white or black (I chose white to match the Radias and give me that Mellotron vibe) and its cheaper than the Arturia at places like Sweetwater/Kraft Music/Ebay .. its a no brainer if you need a 49 key controller to control Midi hardware (just power it with a USB power adapter, and google the sequence of buttons you press one time to get it to power up with the adapter, or read further down in the comments) Thankyou Roland and thanks for the unboxing vid. Unboxing vids are always helpful so you don't end up dropping or scratching your gear from some unforseen factory packaging niggle lol. 👍
Are you still happy with this? I'm between the Roland A49, the Arturia Keylab Essential, and the Nektar Panorama T4. Leaning toward the Roland, as it sounds like the key quality is real good.
Just ordered it. I also have the Arturia Analog Lab 61, but its too heavy for general use in my tiny corner home studio. And the keys are too loud. I like Roland keys, they always put their quality synth keys on every board. If you want more keys, you can try the A88, real hammer style piano keys! Wish I could get that.
Hi, which software did u use with this midi controller in this video? What is the power source for this controller? Is it supplied by USB or an external power adapter?
Brand new in Australia is around $250. I bought my 2nd hand of Marketplace because my 88 keys Casio had a damper pedal socket fault so I was just getting zero sustain so whilst I sorted how to get the Casio fixed. I bought this cause I needed to play. It looks great but it's just a toy. The keys have very little resistance so playing hard is just weird and it's not that it's second hand. It's just the way it is. And trying to play with 2 hands, I kept hitting the transpose + button with my 4 and 5 fingers so I practically had to rest those fingers on top of the unit to avoid transposing mid song. It was annoying. I had an Evolution MK449 that I got for $50 second hand about 12 years ago that was a better feel to playing and sold it for the same 10 years later...I wish I kept that. This Roland A49 might be good if you travel and you need to keep playing when it gets boring. It should fit on a normal size luggage pls it weighs very little which is why I might keep it, unless I can sell it and get another cheaper version
Nice review, was close to buying the M-Audio Keystation 49 or 61 but hadn't quite decided yet. Saw a few videos on this Roland model now just after one last quick Google search before my purchase, and everyone commenting on how good the action is on these keys has sold me on this one. The D-Beam functionality is super nice!
iTS NOW 2-2020 How is this working for ya? Since S1v4 is out and a hole bunch of others out there including Nektars XT49 & Panarama I still want the Roland to replace my KaySound midi from 2002. With ADAM and a Nektar LX25 Impact I can use everything. Budget minded Guys learn. Thanks for posting.
It doesn't create sound on its own. It merely sends digital information to a computer audio program to process You need to connect it to software that reproduces sound, like Garageband or Ableton Live.
Thanks a lot for the review :) It looks like a really nice MIDI keyboard! Also, if it's not too much trouble, I'm a little curious about that Dust Destroyer you have on your desk. How does it work, where can you buy it, and can you recommend it?
Does it feel like a fisher price toy? Usually when I get a midi controller, it feels like a fisher price toy. I trust Roland tho so I'm going to get one from them next.
I have a yamaha psre353 as an arranger but I cant access it for now because of lockdown. I was planning to buy a midi keyboard with good keybed and minimum knobs and faders. Since I play piano style and am a beginner in DAW, I have no idea how important are knobs and faders and pads for things such as looping and all. Is it better to buy a roland a49 along with a separate akaipad or buy something else? I want the best combo with my arranger since it can be used as a midi too but only for its keybed. I mostly play piano and strings but would love to start learning looping, altough I have seen mostly looping requires pads too in midi. What will the best buy for me considering all of this? I'm really confused.
Thank you for good tutorial! Get a like:) Also can I ask you something? Do you have an ability to assign any commands (play, record etc.) to buttons on the left (S1, S2, maybe else...)? Now I am working with Automap (Novation Impulse keyboard) in Logic but I really want to change it to this one because I need only keys and according to many users it has really nice keys feeling and quality for such price... Best wishes, Victor
does it work with a USB charger instead of a laptop if you want to use it as a midi controller for sound modules/hardware in general? i.e can you not use a computer but use hardware if you so desire?
Hold the FUNCTION, ASSIGN, and PITCH buttons while plugging the unit in to the power supply to enable the controller to receive power in standalone mode. Once you’ve done this, each subsequent boot should work normally with the power adapter without having to press that combination of buttons.
So I just bought this Keyboard and I'm having issues with the installation. For some reason my PC isn't auto downloading the drivers. I'd use the disc but I don't have a disc drive. Can anyone help a dude out?
Just use a guitar cord with an 1/8 adapter from the headphone input of your computer tower to the amplifier input. Or if your amp has RCA jacks you can go from the headphone input to the amp using that type of cord too.
Are the keys full size? I got a Korg micro key 49 because it had Bluetooth connectivity but was surprised to learn the keys are tiny and my hands are way too big for it.
purchased this model, but when I play on it there is a big delay. I think the good word for the problem is latency. What should I do to fix the annoying proble? :S Thanks for the answer.
Terbe Dániel do you have this problem with other controllers as well? Latency is usually more of an audio driver/DAW settings problem rather than an issue with the controller

But what's the point? It is midi-keyboard, so it needs some device to deliver info to? You need computer anyways, am I right?
You can use it to trigger another controller via midi-out.@@adviventesschannel857

Ok, thanks. I am familiar with canned, compressed air but the name of the product led me to believe it was more than that.
Hold is like a damper pedal, it sustains the sound while you've got the pedal down.
Thank you for making this video. I was contemplating on purchasing this controller. I feel more confident and buying it now.
my pleasure. it's a nice piece of gear. Sweetwater still has it at $179.
Wow so much information in just a few minutes, thanks for share.
cool thanks for watching
It's compressed air in a can. You can buy it at any office suppy store. there are many different brands.
I purchased mine few months back and happy with it. Should have done unboxing! lol

The biggest sell for me is the joy-stick mod for vibrato/pitch. Thanks much! Very helpful vid!
yes.. thanks for clarifying that. i have this keyboard connect using a USB, not MIDI cable.
Sam.. I really like the A49.. simple, well made, gets the job done. wish they made a 61 key version.
Nice video. Straight up and to the point, thanks.
still own this keyboard. a good buy
Great help as I have just ordered one to give me a 3rd manual on my Virtual Organ. Assignable midi channel will be a greatt help.

One for me ... next week ... THX for your vid from France
thanks.. i'll add this to the list.
cool. A88 is next on my list. want to play it first at the store though.
Thank you for this explanation. Clear, objective, useful! It helped me.
Glad it was helpful!
nice little unboxing/review video. Thanks
can we use this by a wall mounted charging socket?
How do you power it if your using midi?
the question is there after touch in the keys or just the deam beam?
I can't get any sound from mine. Do I need anything else other than usb lead which connects to pc?
It doesn't create sound on its own. It merely sends digital information to a computer audio program to process You need to connect it to software that reproduces sound, like Garageband or Ableton Live.

Does it have onboard transport controls like REC - STOP - FWD - RWD - LOOP etc. ??
I use Ableton fyi.
Thank you very much for making this video! Really helpful.
Can you use it with Roland Jazz Scat preset?
Hey I like that you said its better than Alesis. I am looking at Alesis, Line6 and this A49. All 49 keys. Probably should buy this huh?
Thank U 4 this Video! Helps me to make a Decision! Props!
Can you make a video on how to assign different functions of A 49 ?like s1 s2 c1 c2 etc? There is no video like this anywhere.
Great review Bro!
Keep it up!
As a piano player the only playable midi controller imo
piano weighted is a lot better. this is good for basic playing, drum triggering, synth lines etc... basically a cheap keyboard. works well

who tf cares? as long as it does what it needs to do and is convinient to use

***** i believe you can assign but I have not used the function. I bet you can download a PDF of that manual from Roland’s site.
Thank you=) I have tried already. And its work! Really nice keyboard...
Hi thanks for the video. Is this core midi compliant so that I can use it with the IPad and IPhone? why did you say you need drivers? cheers
I have the same question. Did you find it ?
Hi! does it work with android device too? thanks!
why not show the pitch and mod function as well as the D-Beam?
sorry, missed that
I already have a korg micro key for that i use korg kontrol software but for roland what i have to use

same here! sorry to resurrect this comment, but did you solve the issue? thanks!

Yes its Full Size
have a sustain pedal?
Can i use a sustain pedal with the a49?
tnx for this ..new fam here
thanks for watching.
nice review
purchased this model, but when I play on it there is a big delay. I think the good word for the problem is latency. What should I do to fix the annoying proble? :S Thanks for the answer.
i have absolutely 0 latency...so not sure where to pin point except get the newest drivers...usb drivers...try a different DAW....=) sry not much help
Terbe Dániel do you have this problem with other controllers as well? Latency is usually more of an audio driver/DAW settings problem rather than an issue with the controller
Thanks, the problem is solved. I think it was caused by weak software and hardware. Now I am using it with logic pro and main stage and perfect!
HI. I would like to know what computer program can I use for Roland A49?
Presonus Studio One 5
What's your application name?
Studio one
Can we play this connection g to amdroid
The censor you mentioned is called a d-beam
thanks.. couldn’t think of it during shooting the vid.
What are your thought on Studio One compared to Sonar X3 etc?
haven't used Sonar so really can't compare. Studio One is a powerful DAW, I've yet to have it come up short.
HomeTracks How good/varied are the drum samples in studio one?
I'd say they are ok for demos. i use Addictive Drums.
hello man, does this device have its own speakers?
nope. thanks for watching.
should I buy a midi keyboard or a piano keyboard ..I m beginner music production
..rply fast
midi
But wyh
I also don't know how to play keyboard
AJNABi MUSIC professional keyboards are way expensive than midi controllers
do all midi keyboards come with third party DAWs?
most do but you should check before buying
I want to buy this keyboard, but you need to have a computer or tablet is enough ??
+Pedro16 Fierros15 yes, this keyboard is a USB controller. it requires a computer or tablet with a USB interface.
+Pedro16 Fierros15 Tablet should work. You can always use a usb wall charger to power it I believe. There are a series of buttons to press to put it in this mode, I forget which though.
um how do I turn it on?
plug it into a usb port of a computer...if you havn't got a computer bin it
Does it work on FL Studio 11?
Sam Barratt i’m pretty sure it would. standard midi keyboard
How is it now?
great
I want!
It will be for my 12 YO son.
+ScienceFictionIs its a great keyboard. built well. Roland = quality.
Does this have aftertouch?
Bubble Grinder The D-Beam will actually trigger aftertouch which is pretty cool.
drivers? really??
How this working with fl studio ?U just install drivers and plug and play?
i don’t use FL but it should work. It’s a standard midi keyboard.
So should working on any Win or Os ?
yes
HomeTracks how long does it take for drivers to install???? the one that came with the package doesnt run with windows 8 so i got the latest driver from Rolands website. How long does it take to install the drivers!?
About 5 min
Omg it's Hopper from Stranger things
