  • Subscriber request! How do we make silage bales? How does it compare to silage in a bunker silo? Do you get the same amount? I cover the basics of making silage bales, and find out if there is any change in quantity!
This finished my four-part "Silage Series" where I look at different aspects of making silage, run some tests, and answer questions about the process.

I've been wondering about bunker vs baling myself, and whether it was worth it. Thanks for doing the test for me, it was very helpful and enlightening (as per usual with your videos).

Thanks! Personally, I prefer bunkers, but only because I find baling a bit tedious sometimes.

I'm really still torn between bunker and bales… cons for bunker is the back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and ba… … and back and forth and then you're done. I find hunting bales a little less boring. Only a little though. :D Cons for bales is, as you said, the space… *but* you need space for the bunker silo too. And there are some nice mods for that, for example Gtx' Bale Storage Sheds. Over 400 bales, either round or square.
Though for silage making in general I recently found Gtx' Fermenting Silo T800. *Much* preferred. :D
(Both of these mods are 19 only, Gtx did port a couple to 22 already, but of course I can't know if the others will follow)

do you have to get the grass from a proper field? I was trying to mow, bale & wrap some grass around the farm (around the fields) for silage but after I wrapped them and they just were grass bales as opposed to turning into the precious silage I need. *Edit: I think I figured it out... I am using seasons and I just read somewhere with seasons it will take 1/3 of a season to turn into silage. which is more realistic but is rather unfortunate since it kills the only real advantage of baling (instant silage)

I’m happy to hear that you got it sorted out. Even bunker silos take longer to make silage when you’re playing with seasons.

Quick question, is there any tool out there that will collect bales and load them onto a trailer "automatically"? My front loader skills are terrible!
Also, thank you so much for these tutorials! I'm brand new to FS19 and your videos have been so helpful!

If you're playing on PC, there are many "auto load" bale trailers on ModHub. There are even "auto load" bale forks. I really can't speak to what's available for console. Glad you're finding my tutorials helpful. Thank you!

No, it's part of the Kvernland & Vicon DLC.
