Major packing key is taking items you already know you love to wear & feel comfortable in. You seem to do this well. My past fails were usually taking ‘new’ items that didn’t work out so well. 😅
I know. I used to pack things for “fantasy me.” 😂
my failure is usually that i take too many items that I do not end up wearing as I always go to my favorite comfortable clothes. I'm planning to take less clothes and do more laundry instead. we will be in an airbnb with a washing machine, so it is easier than in a hotel.
@@Xia-hu having laundry facilities will mean a lot less packing. I ran into an issue with my carryon when I was told I brought too much laundry detergent (powder) with me. I didn’t realize there was an issue with that. Next time if it’s not available at the bnb I will buy it when I get there.
@@mhtammi try laundry detergent sheets. and in any case, for a week or 2 week holiday you don't need a lot of detergent. :)
Yes! I am leaving for Croatia later this week. This past weekend I took a quick little getaway with my best friend and tested out a few outfits I was thinking of bringing to Croatia. Thankfully they all passed the comfort test and will be going with me.
I agree with others that this is not really a new “system”, other than envisioning how your capsule wardrobe will fit into different scenarios in each day. It still comes down to packing essential components that can be mixed and matched. 🙂❤️
Thanks so much for testing out the 3-Day Packing Method! Love that this method can work for anyone going anywhere!
do people really change outfits in the morning , during the day and in the evening while on vacation? I admire your free time. :)) I'd rather spend the time just walking around sightseeing than walking back to the accommodation to change clothes again and again... I couldn't care less that I am having dinner in the same set of clothes I went sightseeing in :))
Right?
I am not a minimalist. I usually take a big 9 day trips with my family so I am packing for every day and a dress for each evening we celebrate together. It is a one suitcase deal with the the Tripped Travel cubes. The huge thing is skin care, sunscreen and haircare. It all takes up space! I like the just in case things because I also pack that extra thing just in case!
I agree… “the stuff “ not clothing is what takes up space.
Christi... I love your energy and (as a fellow Gen-Xer) your content, but man. This packing method seems so much more complicated than anything I've ever heard before. Hope it works for you and hope you enjoy Ireland! I've been twice, but there's always more to see!
I like the way you explained the system! When I watched the original video it felt a little chaotic. I only own around one week's worth of clothing, which is an easy starting point for packing minimally. 🌸Heidi
I would also pack a small fan. Most hotels don't have AC
Hi! I live in Northern Ireland, you won't need the boots, but you will definitely need the trainers or a pair of comfortable closed toe shoes, nothing worse than soggy socks. Hope you enjoy your trip.
You are so delightful… I hope you have an amazing trip!!! I look forward to your return video!!
I watched the original video and I like this method better. I have a few trips coming up this year and early next year and I am going to try this method out for at least my next 3 trips.
I've used this type of packing method, but not knowing it was a packing system. I did however have a lot of "just-in-case" items, and have been working on learning to pack lighter. This was nice to see. I've been just learning about capsule wardrobes recently, and I think you're right that this method is just a different way to come around to a capsule wardrobe... and I will possibly combine this with what I'm learning about capsule wardrobes. Thank you for sharing this new method.
Take the trail shoes! I’ve been to Ireland two times and have experienced the 4 seasons in a day! It’s very accurate! I wore the trail shoes almost every day. It’s muddy and slippery at times. Ireland is magical and beautiful and all the things! Enjoy!!
I saw Fin's video a couple weeks ago, and thought it was really interesting. It's fun to see how you're packing for Ireland (dream trip!) and I look forward to seeing your unpacking video. It looks like you have a versatile assortment of items that should outfit you for any situation! Have a great trip!
I only wear dresses and plan 3 days of wear per dress. Additionally, I take one sweater that will go with each dress. My dresses are washable and dry quickly overnight. If I need additional warmth and/or modesty, I would pack a pair of leggings that will coordinate with any dress. I pack only in carry on bags. Guess I’m more of a minimalist when it comes to the clothes I take on a trip.
I'm the same! Dresses are so easy to pack. Mine can go to casual to dressy so easy with a shoe change or jewelry. Packing with dresses is the way to go!!!!
I pack similarly to you. Carry on only is the way to go. We went on a tour of Spain last year and 3 people of 20 their luggage did not arrive.
So I realized while watching this that this is in fact the way I pack, and always have. But now it has a "trend-worthy" name. LOL hope you have or had a great trip!
Agreed! I thought the same thing. But, I am very interested in what actually ends up getting packed and how the 2 methods compare!
I thought the same thing when I watched the original video she referenced!
Great video. This, combined with the 5-4-3-2-1 method, is sort of how I tend to pack. People look at my back pack and wonder how I can manage with such a small amount, but I’ve never had any issues. Maybe it’s because I get packing tips from great you tube travellers. 😊
I just recently watched that video. This is great 2 see someone try that method. Gives it practicality. Will look forward to ur during/after video to see how it worked out.
I, for one, am glad for another packing method idea! I’m new to traveling and can use all the ideas & suggestions I can get. Thank you so much for another great video. (Ignore all the naysayers)
You are brave (?) to fly in the same day as your tour commences. If our travels include a cruise (occasionally) or tour (rarely), I used to schedule our arrival for 1 or 2 days ahead of the cruise/tour start. With the erratic, unreliable flights these days that are either full planes or oversold, I now schedule our international arrival at least 3 to 5 days before a cruise/tour commences. We also don't fly home the same day as ship disembarkation or tour end; an extra day (or more!) at the tail end is useful to regroup & repack properly before the long flights home.
I feel like I have PTSD from my extended stay I had to take in Michigan which included a very cold winter.
At the ticket counter,I was seven pounds over weight with my main suitcase and under severe pressure, taking stuff out to give to my brother to keep with him since he was just dropping me off at the airport. Only the beginning of a very long story!! First lesson learned, weigh your suitcase!!!
I went on an escorted tour of Ireland last year and packed similarly to you. I was surprised that it only rained once during the week and it was sunny and 80s all week. Have a great trip!
Thanks, Christi! Have a wonderful trip! I can't wait to hear about your adventures!!
I would say, having stayed in castles myself, they are COLD! Even in the summer! Merino wool socks are your friends!
I just watched the other (original) video on this method the other day, and didn’t quite get it. But watching you do it, it’s making more sense, I’m excited to try it. I’m looking forward to hearing how it works out for you.
I can't wait to hear the report when home. Blessed travels.
Thank you for doing this method too -- this is how i can pack it all in an underseater ❤ 🎉
Hey Christi! Greetings from upper left USA. Ireland is almost identical to Seattle area as far as weather and casual dress goes (just lean more towards 'smart' casual and less athleisure/yogie). Definitely take the trail shoes (they call them trainers) and leave the boots for this time of year. You'll see plenty of people in trainers as well as baseball hats. I made the mistake of only packing loafers when I first went and quickly found trainers would have been more practical and more comfortable (and I went in April when it was still raining). I hope your trip is FABULOUS and that you have many days where 'the sun is splitting the stones' (that's what they say when it's sunny and warm). Sláinte!
I have a trip in August to ID's mountains with a wedding as the main event. There also going to be sporty events. The temperatures can vary from summer heat to freezing cold. That makes for a variety of layering items, including my down vest. I've already decided to check my suitcase because I'll need dressy and very casual. Have a great trip to Ireland. Looking forward to hearing about the trip when you return.
I like the idea of this method. I have some trips coming up that I want to pack for this way.
I leave for Ireland August 13! I’m taking whatever
Hi I binged and enjoyed your videos (and few others') before my 3 week trip in May to Germany, Italy and Ireland, including a week-long business conference. I managed to do a 20" carryon and small backpack only, no checked. I tried a capsule wordrobe ( black, tan, white pieces) for first time which worked well for the variety of activities and situations. I stayed in 3 hotels in Frankfurt, 2 in Sardinia, 1 in Dublin..and fortunately an apartment in Rome where I could do laundry!!
One tip for Dublin: most people did wear sneakers everywhere, and HOKAS and On Clouds were most popular on women and men (in airports too) so you can probably skip the boots ;)
Bon voyage!
Just returned Northern Ireland. You are right they don’t dress. I’m cold natured so I had on a fleece many days. And I brought my Vessi sneakers because they are waterproof. Thank you thank you for mentioning Pj’s and underwear. This video was one of the most realistic I’ve watched.
Love your Videos. Going to Ireland in September, so hope to see your unpacking before then. Looks like good weather now in Dublin.
This is how I normally pack. What I have been working on is combining the two packing styles to decrease the amount of items I actually take. 😂
Would love to hear your itinerary for 3 days in Ireland.
I saw her original video and my days sure wouldn't look like hers. I'm staying in Italy for a month with a base in Salerno, with mostly day trips planned from there. I'm 73 and going solo, so I won't be hitting the bars at night. So, I think I'll stick to the "old-fashioned" capsule method....
I am cruising from New York into Canada in September. I am planning clothing for warm weather touring, cool weather touring and dinner on the ship. Travel clothing will come from these items. Lots of layers and items that can mix and match to fit into a carryon.
Can you provide the link for the clothes holder you use to layout/hang your outfits? I love this!!!
I saw their video and used this method for my family for 2 weeks in London. It went t great!
I stayed in a castle in Ireland a few years ago - you will love it.
Have a wonderful trip! Great outfit choices!
Hi. Just wanted to thank you for introducing me to the Plaka explore sandals they are amazing wear mine all the time not just for travelling 😊💯
I saw her video and will try it on my next trip. The only thing I’ve always done is enough underwear for the entire trip. Did I miss how many nights your trip will be? Can’t wait to see your unpacking video. Have a great trip.
Can’t wait for your Ireland blogs. We are going in January yes, January.
I will be traveling to Ireland for a month. Talk about challenge😳
Thanks for the great ideas and the new way to pack. I can’t wait to use these ideas on my trip to Japan in September. Great video!
Love the system for some trips…. Finding it hard to take for cruise 10 days…. Otherwise could easily see it working.
I just tried this system as I was staying with my brother as he and his family were recovering from a living kidney donor surgery. I was planning to stay with them for ten days and I was amazed how well this system accomplished an easy and versatile wardrobe. I will be using this system from now on. Tip: choose a complimentary color scheme so it maximizes your wardrobe. You can add a pop of color within your "Just in case" picks.
I watched the original Tripped video recently and tried it out for my four day domestic trip that I'm on right now. I put a packing plan together then ended up being rushed as I packed and panicked, which led to me throwing in three more shirts than I needed, and I haven't worn two of them. In part, it's because I don't really like wearing my travel clothes again without washing (though I will wear them on my way home).
One issue with the system for this trip was that I had more than one special day where I was going to be in the spotlight for three different days literally on stages) and needed three fairly unique outfits (other than shoes). Also, what I chose for my travel day needed to withstand wrinkling after being in the bottom of my personal bag, so I brought something synthetic that I didn't get to wear because I had flight delays that led to a missed flight and didn't want to wear it in the heat. Another what if that I hadn't expected (because I'm peri-menopausal) was getting a really heavy period that leaked through my pants rendering them not an option for the remainder of my trip. All in all, I really think it could work well. I'm going to take what I learned and try again for a 15 day international trip where I'll have a washer/dryer.
Way to much stuff! Old school which means too much stuff in your bag. Capsule still much better however I am not so strict I would make every top go with every bottom but certainly at least 3 outfits for every piece. I use jewelry and scarves with a change in shoes to go from day to evening, however I do not do foofoo evenings either. Excited to hear about all the things you did not use!
Take the boots! 😊
Do you have a link for the striped sweater? It’s so cute! Have a great trip!
Thank this so informative. Could you share where the blue dress is from
I love your shorts & top! Do you have links for these?
Wonder if all that can fit into a 20"... Will be travelling for 40 days including 9 in Ireland.
What do you do with your dirty clothes?
Do you plan on doing wash during your trip?
This method is nothing new. People have been doing this since packing itself was invented. Silly how it’s attributed to an influencer.
I think it is appropriate for a you tuber to share where they learned about something.
This is literally how all of us have packed our whole lives. I'm so confused how all of CZcams is on to this old traditional way of packing--that also gives permission to overpack.
Agreed. This packing method is as old as the hills! It IS a capsule wardrobe, and if you're smart, gives many options. Laundry is so easy, wash a little every day in the sink or bathtub. What is old is new again.
Ummm - you’re making an awfully huge assumption, “all of us….”. Speak for yourself, by all means, but not the rest of us. Expand your mind. Jeesh.
"Think about what you will need or might want and pack it!"
@follywood
I have always packed one outfit per day. Some of those outfits were utilizing pieces from the previous day, but the 3-day method was mind-altering to me. Since you're so brilliant maybe you should start a CZcams channel and Enlighten the rest of us.
@@follywood2you’re missing the point, basing it around 3 key days, rather than just “taking what you think you need”. Look you’re entitled to your system, but save the criticism. That’s all
I’ll stick with the capsule wardrobe system. This is too much stuff.
It seems like too many clothes for a week.
This is nothing new. Isn't this how most people have been packing forever? I just take what makes me comfortable and covered for dinner events.
This is so not important given that you're going to be using a checked bag. Who cares how much you take with you if you're taking a checked bag because you could take your entire closet. Now take all that stuff you want to take and put it in carry-on only. That would be interesting.
Way too much,,,
I love your channel! I’m a 51yo new solo traveler and your videos have been a huge help in navigating, packing and organizing for every trip! Gotta ask where are the shorts you are wearing in this video are from? They look comfy and it’s hard to find shorter comfy styles that aren’t “old lady” long 😂
