  • In Part 10 of this video series, I install the cylinder heads on the Mercruiser 5.7L V8. Regular thread sealant works for the head bolts. I also install a new rear main seal into the housing and install the housing.

      I thought about that. Wasn't sure what all would be required to be honest (different intake manifold/ pushrods/etc). It makes adequate power for what it is. My understanding is I'm somewhat near the limits of what an alpha outdrive can handle for power. They say they are only rated for 300 horsepower. I'm guessing this will be somewhere between 200 an 300 hp. Vortec heads add 25 horse or what would you guess? I have no idea really.

    I am going to document my Mercruiser 305 to LS6 or LQ6 Swap like you have done here. Nice to see you chased the threads with a tap. It’s amazing how much rust and crap can accumulate in blind holes.

      Haha thanks it's my brother's lab Bruce. He's a great pup. Rear main is leaking? That's a bummer.

      It's a 200 horse 350 😬. Next time I build a formula one engine I'll do it your way though.

    I believe that sleeve you were talking about is a repair sleeve for a badly scored crankshaft.

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  Před 2 lety

      All the repair sleeves I've ever seen are steel rather than plastic. My understanding is that plastic part is to allow the seal to slide onto the crank more easily. Plastic would wear out very quickly if it was used as a repair sleeve I would think. But I guess I can't say for sure.
