Swimming with ELEPHANTS in a THAI JUNGLE (incredible) 🇹🇭

- After arriving at Chai Lai Orchid Elephant Sanctuary yesterday, we had an even more amazing day lined up for day 2.
I was completely surprised by this and had no idea we were doing it - but I got to have a personal, intimate jungle trek with just myself, Michael, and 2 beautiful Asian Elephants and their trainers.
We spent the day trekking through the mountains of Mae Rim with Ronaldo, aged 3, and Lesu, an older elephant (who is pregnant!) as they grazed the mountainside looking for food, and getting their daily exercise. Elephants love to trek free in the jungle and just eat what they come across, and Tiger (our head elephant mahout/trainer) and his team make sure the elephants are enriched by being able to do this.
We stopped off quickly at a Karen Hill Tribe lookout, and met the family of our head trainer and guide, buying some handmade items in the process, before climbing down to a waterfall to swim with the elephants in the freezing water, as it’s currently winter in Northern Thailand.
We then returned to the Elephant Sanctuary for a traditional Thai lunch.
I can’t put into words how amazing this experience is - spending time with rescued elephants and helping contribute to their growth and development, whilst being one with nature in such a beautiful environment. If you visit northern Thailand, you HAVE to spend time at Chai Lai Orchid - make sure you book in, and ask for Tiger as your guide - tell him Josie and Michael say hi!
