- This is the end of this layout and a new one to start, thanks to everybody who has subscribed and also for the comments
made by everybody so thanks again and cheers to all Robert - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Hi Robert, I have done this a few times over the years too. It is always nice for a change. Sometimes adding a little weight if you can in the loco makes a whole difference in a grade. Also there are some modelers I've seen that finally finish there layout, run it for a short while and then start all over again. Good luck on your next one and thank you for all the shared modeling you gave us on this one...Cheers to you,Jimmy
SmokeyALCO Jimmy thanks for the comment and like you say change could be for the better cheers Robert
Hey Robert, we all go thru this. I am rebuilding mine as you may know. At a certain point the irritation starts to take over, although we sometimes press on, the best is then to rethink/redo it. I hope you post your track plan and that you have an idea on what you want to do. It is best if you have an overall theme/plan to work to and you get this on paper first. Take your time on this step and invest in a good trackplanner software package. Then play with the design a lot. I spent 18months on my plan, and of course it still changes! LOL. I have enjoyed following and will continue to do so. From an old Melbournite. Robert
robert van ooyen Robert thanks for the comment and i don't have a plan every time i have a plan it changes all the time and will be watching your video's as well and good to hear from an old Melbournite cheers Robert
This is a complete shock to me! It's hard to believe you are tearing down something that you worked so hard on. But I am sure you will have something even better with your next layout. You have learned some things to not do on your next layout though, and that is good info for you. Good luck with your new build, it's been a pleasure following this one!
***** This is a shock to me as well Deryk cheers Robert
Even in real life it requires multiple engines to pull large trains up steep slopes, so your issue isn't unusual. I have the same problem on my layout and overcome it with multiple lashups. I am looking forward to the rebuild. Keep the chin up and dive in Robert.
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man George even tho the video showed one engine going up the incline and stopping on the tracks, i did try three engines together and all failed to make it up. So i thought i will start again instead of proceeding with finishing the layout and save some dollars,
In the long run i think this was the best idea and i think some of my problems was heat in the shed, so i will insulate the walls to over come this problem and stay under 2% grade cheers Robert
***** Sounds like a plan to me Robert. I will enjoy watching the rebuild.
The Shade Tree Fix-it Man Thanks George
I'm shocked. Been watching for quite a while now. I've only just begun mine but I'll be very careful to test for what you've shown us there.
I've learnt quite a lot from watching your videos and it's a set back for me too, I was really looking forward to seeing your layout completed.
Thank you for your consideration with showing how you do things and explaining them so plainly.
Richmond Millier Thanks Richmond and if i have helped one person thats is good to hear and stay tuned for my next update, when ever that is cheers Robert
Looking forward to seeing the new layout ! ! Curious to see how all this current work will alter your ideas and procedures on how the new one gets constructed and brought to life. Thanks for sharing this adventure ! !
John Schmidt Jr John thanks for the comment and i have a few ideas for the new layout cheers Robert
I only really subscribed when you started making the new, and improved, layout, so it took me a while to find this video. But I'm so sorry this one didn't work out for you, but so glad I found the video before I headed down exactly the same road/rail! I would have encountered the exact same problem in the not too distant future, so, thank you, you've saved me time and money and made one of my mistakes for me. Keep up the good work on the new layout. Cheers, Davie
+davie maclean Davie thanks for commenting and subbing and we all make mistakes, also it is always good
to watch other video's to help ourselves from making these mistakes and to learn and i'm always finding new
things to do as the layout progresses, just remember to keep your grades as low as you can, cheers Robert
Hi Robert totally understand and support your decision I had to do the same with my last layout due to track problems and the board warping it was heart breaking.
I am sure your next layout will be even better
Look forward to your future videos
Stay safe
Cheers
Graeme
Graeme Morrison Graeme thanks and hope the next layout will be as good cheers Robert
It is the journey that counts not the destination.
I look forward to a new beginning.
Cheers,
olegna1998 Well said and i cant wait for the Journey to begin cheers Robert
Add weight to the loco's, clean the wheels and track, consist or add helpers for the grades. What ever I really learned a lot from your video's. Bottom line is; What ever makes you happy. Thanks for sharing!
I did try all the above but still no go cheers Robert
Sad to see this one go ! But a better one is always better !! Hope you keep the engine facility on the new layout ! thanks for sharing ! greetings from Holland ! Martin
Martin Bruggeman Martin thanks for the comment and the engine facility will still be a part of the new layout cheers Robert
Although I'm sad to see this layout go, I'm really looking forward to the next one. Looking forward to following your future updates. Thank you for sharing.
MrCipher666 Thanks mate and keep watching this space cheers Robert
Wow Robert! what a bloody shock/surprise to see you having trouble and have decided to demo/rebuild. It's yours and you get to chose. Can't really offer much more than has already been said. Hopefully you can save some of the scenery and re-install it on the new one. Best Wishes, Terry
PennCentral99 Thanks Terry will try and save as much as i can cheers Robert
Sad to see so much effort gone. But how wonderful to start a brand new lay out, and to have the knowledge and experience from the this one.
Joey the best thing about starting over is as you said the knowledge and experience cheers Robert
Hey, Robert!! I understand your frustration and again it's your layout so only you need to be happy with it. Best of luck in the rebuild - I will continue to "be along for the ride"!! Looking forward to the new adventure!! One thing that I might offer is to make the radii as large as possible when approaching your grades on the new layout. I have a 4% grade on my layout and the radii are not smaller than 28" on the approaches. I have found that this aids in the loco being able to pull better as a tighter radius adds more friction between the wheel flanges and sides of the rails requiring more pulling power. Looking forward to the new adventure!!
brian102256 Thanks Brian but i will never do 4% grades again and i cant wait to start the new layout, maybe be back sooner than later cheers Robert
No doubt the upcoming layout work will be worth it. I can see it even better and more spectacular.
Thanks and so far the new build has worked out,
but heaps more to do cheers Robert
Although i am very sad to see the layout being tore down, I am still very understanding to it, that grade could get very annoying. Good luck on your new layout.
Diomonder Gaming Thanks and i will never do 4% grades 2% is find cheers Robert
thanks for sharing its fantastic beautyfull
Thanks again cheers Robert
Darn, hope you have fun building the new layout!!!
SD70ACEguy Thanks Mate i will have fun starting again cheers Robert
Sorry to hear about your grade issue. Sometimes change is necessary. To bad you can't just rework that corner and install a helix. Also hope you get to save your loco facility as it turned out great. Looking forward to progress on your future layout.
Peter CPRail8748 Peter hope i can save the loco facility as well and keep watching this space cheers Robert
I think this phase is part of the learning process Robert. This is the second edition of my layout too. I know is sad to tear down something you work so hard, but is also exciting to start a new one with the added knowledge you accumulated through the process of the first or how many you've done before. So looking forward to you next installments of the new one. Cheers. RT
retrainrun RT thanks and as you said it should get easy now, stay tuned cheers Robert
The sincerity is wrenching but also refreshing, thanks for being real with us and I am sure your new layout will be deluxe!
David Banta Thanks David and stay tuned for the new build cheers Robert
You have a nice space there. Being an Aussie, the temps can range all over the place. First thing is climate control. Second, get into a yahoo group for layout design and get something that works right. There's a lot you can do with a space that large and a design group can help you get it right. Check out yahoo as well. If there are clubs in your area, get in with therm.
I woud use it as a reason to run more engines just like the real world.
***** Eric I have used three loco's up this incline and still i have the same problem cheers Robert
Robert, so sorry to hear that your having problems with your layout. Good luck with the changes and I look forward to your next update.
Firehawk1218 Thanks Mate and keep watching this space cheers Robert
I had same kind of problems, and got all upset, till I did the same of rebuilding from scratch. But I changed to O Gauge, and have never had a train crash since. Going up hills has been so much easier. Going backwards through switches are now smooth and never crashed once there either.
+James Logsdon Thanks James and good to see you have no problems with the o-scale, but there will be no 4% grades
on this layout cheers Robert
AC/DC at 2:08!! Glad to know I'm not the only AC/DC fan who loves trains.
RustEZZEProductions Thanks that just cheer me up knowing there are more than one AC/DC Fan cheers Robert
Yeah! I'm learning Hells Bells and Back In Black on guitar. I also really want to them on there Rock Or Bust tour but it's just way to exspensive.
Hello Robert,
Really enjoy your videos !! Just as other's have mentioned " more locomotives " ! Much easier I should think however it is your layout
After all.
Best regards, Robert.
Thanks Michael i did try more Loco's and even a pusher but the same results cheers Robert
I'm gobbed smacked mate I liked the loco shed and traverser was impressed how you did the concrete in the loco yard.
But if you have damp then that needs sorting and insulating and plastering will help, hope the new build works out ok.
Cheers Kev
percomotion Thanks Kev and should be better once i plaster and put the insulation in cheers Robert
Hi mate, it is a shame, but as you say you have put a lot of thought into it and from it can come better things. Also as you say it gives you a chance to line the garage and get rid of those bloody ants! Got 'em here as well! Good luck with it and I'm looking forward to being a fan of the new layout from the very beginning! Cheers, Dan
TheMisterdan01 Thanks Dan and i will plaster the shed and will be watching your video's as well cheers Robert
Thanks mate!
Wow. Hate to see it go but already looking forward to the new videos. Good luck, your videos are very well done and motivating!
genericsixtynine Thanks and should be back sooner than later cheers Robert
You might take some 120 grit sand paper and run it over the rails a couple of times. Also try wiping the rails down with a little lacquer thinner to remove any oil that may be on the rails. It's worked for me in the past
Yes i did use some sandpaper as well but nothing worked cheers Robert
hi Robert... i am so sorry to hear you're going to tear this layout down... i agree with Eric use multiple locos to climb the grade.. but if you're not happy then you need to do what you need to do.. i will be following as i have been doing... good luck my friend... vinny
bnsf6951 Thanks Vinny and i have tried multiple loco's, and still having the seem problems on different parts of the incline. cheers Robert
Sorry, I should have read further comments.
You're turning this into an opportunity, and I'll be anxiously awaiting the new season of your series. - Jeff
drumday Thanks Jeff and i agree with you so stay tuned cheers Robert
On the next one Robert, keep the grade to 2 % or less and keep the bloody sandpaper for wood and not the track, it damages the track and lets more dirt sit in the grooves..LOL. Keeping a steady grade is important as well. If you can go round the walls, you will get a bigger layout? Some nice work on this one so the next will be easier and better! Good luck mate.
Cheers Gregg
FishplateFilms Gregg thanks for the comment and i agree about the sandpaper, but i thought i'd see if it did help the loco's up the incline. before the final decision was made. and like you said i would not go any higher than 2% on the next layout cheers Robert
***** I look forward to it !
Gregg:-)
Now im not a expert on the situation but you said that the incline worked fine at first, maybe the humidity has something to do with being that your in Australia and its hot has hell there. Not sure if that would cause the track to slip or not. As always Robert i love your layout and your vids and i will see you soon with a all new entry into your imagination. Cheers mate
Matt Jenkins Thanks Matt and i will plaster the walls with insulation to help against the heat cheers Robert
Damn, that is a shame. Good luck with the new venture and I look forward to see the new plan.
MilPlanes1 Thanks and hope the next one will be as good cheers Robert
I'm blaming the VB for this Robert and probably your footy team as well! I can hear the sadness in your voice and I can understand why. It was a shock to me when I read the title to the video but I am 100% sure your new layout will be outstanding as you are a very talented modeller. Please keep the videos coming through all stages of the new construction. Cheers, Richard.
Richard Redcastle Richard it wasn't the V.B. I didn't have enough, and the footy team inspired me so it wasn't them lol cheers Robert
Hey just keep add another engine
To the train g
go for it and have fun make it bigger and better!
Southerntreatment Thanks and i will have fun starting the new layout cheers Robert
most trains that to up hill use more motive power, or dpu. i had an extremely steep incline, just to see if i could get a full loop in a very small area, and just to see how steep of a hill an engine could climb as well . it seems so sad that after all that work that you would have to redo all of that nice layout. good luck and carry on
Just to let you know that i did use more than one loco and also a pusher and this still created the problem.
And i could have just made some changes to fix this problem but thought i would just start again cheers Robert
What? Wow! All this hard work and money. This is a shame Robert, but you do what makes you happy. Try to save as much of it you can.
Looking forward to your next layout progress. You do good work matey and I know you learned alot from building this one.
Is is going to be a switching layout?
model railer John and i know what you mean about work and money and i don't know about switching cheers Robert
I didn't believe it when I saw the title of this video. I thought, 'how the hell can he be finished already?' Now that I know I feel for you mate. I'm not sure what you've decided the actual problem is that's brought this about, but I was wondering if you could just reconfigure the section of track that the loco's don't like? It'll probably be a messy job, but perhaps you could avoid ripping the whole layout up?.......Well, whatever you decide is fine of course. As others have pointed out, it's your layout. Man, I still can't get my head round it.........after all that wonderful work...........good luck with your new adventure Robert.......David(UK)
MrChoochoo50 David my answer to everyone is not to do 4% grades, the whole layout is only held by screws so i will take one screw out at a time lol, and this will give me a chance to plaster and insulate at the same time cheers Robert
Nice looking railroad! I hate seeing it go but I get to see another great layout being built. Its your railroad money and time, but I wanted to say that on the real railroads they add multiple units together to get freight over tough inclines. Good job you actually have a realistic operating railroad. For myself half the fun is making up a consist and picking the number of engines I think will do the job. My cars aren't weighted to nmra standards because I weigh each one a different weight adding to the realism. The end result is what you want out of your layout.
John thanks for the comment and i did try using multiple units as well as a pusher as well, i think the problem
was the heat in the shed as this was alright before, but now i have insulated the walls and roof this should be
much better for running Loco's, cheers Robert
I have a 3% grade on a 30" radius corner, and not any of my single locos will pull much more than 10 cars up it. Space constraints in my room made the 3% almost unavoidable. But that is more realistic for me, have to plan my motive power based on train length. Good luck on your future layout.
Thanks for the comment and 3% is better than 4% and as you said plan your motive power cheers Robert
Have fun, building a new layout. I sort of ended up in the same situation as you did. Im all for a reconstruction.
drewzdrew27 Thanks Drew and fun it will be cheers Robert
I look forward to watching your progress with the new layout!
+xrayracer1 Thanks and i hope you enjoy cheers Robert
As always I hate to see a beautiful layout come down, I have the same problem but just added more locomotives, nothing comes by in front of my house on the Union Pacific mainline with less the (2) locomotives and the coal trains even have the third one on the rear as a pusher. Just a thought, hate to see a thing of beauty come down when looks like a simple fix would work but as in the model train world goes it all comes down to "It's your layout" Best of luck in whatever you decide but I would at least give the extra locos a shot!
David Durbin David i have tried extra loco's and still the same problem but they come down great and i know what you mean about pulling down a layout cheers Robert
I have been watching your videos....this sad news....although I know this videos are two years old.... !
I feel sorry for you....!
Waiting the new one!....I will be starting mine in short time but it is a zscale, but I must say I learned a lot from your videos!
It is of any comfort.....I learned a lot from you!
MANY THANKS!
All good and good to hear what other people think good or bad.
Now the new layout has already begun and this is a bit different
to the old one cheers Robert
wishing the Best!!!
Bloody train you never finish them, yes gradients are always a concern when you have a bend on the approach it took me months to get mine right trial and error.... but that is why we like a challenge, I congratulate you on your effort and your display and logic in doing it I look forward to seeing your new display and giving me more ideas you are fortunate you do have space , cheers for now take care Robert
Brayden Donnelly Brayden Bloody trains your right on the spot there and the worst thing is i did trial after trail, but it could be the weather as well so i will plaster board the walls and insulate as well cheers Robert
WHAT! WAIT! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Thats a nice layout just add helpers.
Robert Sacco Robert have tried and no go there thanks for watching and stay tuned for the brand new update number one cheers Robert
***** good luck sir and be looking forward to the new updates
Good looking layout. Sorry about the grading problem.
+John Brown Thanks John and cheers Robert
Well Mate this is AWESOME ARTWORK
Real art job man and money + weather is a problem all ways
This Vid go to my Favorite LIBRARY VID Rob AND WE WILL REBILD
Thumbs up
woltar9 Thanks Woltar and rebuild i will cheers Robert
OMG! I can only slightly imagine what considerations are behind that decision.. Good luck with it.. I'm with you to see what comes..
***** Thanks and there were other problems i was having as well, but a new layout and new chapter cheers Robert
I'm sure you checked to make sure the track was perfectly clean. Perhaps there was glue residue on the inside of the rail tops. That would greatly add to resistance in the curves and drag your train to a stop. Bummer dude.
Kitteninthekettle Hi and thanks for commenting and i did make sure the track was clean and still i had the same problem, i could have just re-done this part of the layout but decided to re-do the lot, and also adding insulation to all the walls will help so out with the old and in with the new cheers Robert
Well, that sucks. Better now then later. It sucks that you have to take all the work you did apart. If you look at the size of the layout, its really not that much. If you can save most of it then it really not that bad. It happens to all of us. I thought of taking mine apart a couple of times. Mostly ever time I find a fault. Instead I think of a way to make it work, since I don't have the heart to start over. You have to look at it as a good thing. Now you can do the things you couldn't or thought of. Good luck.
Scott
Scott Downey Scott yes to better now than when i finished and a new start my be good so keep your video's going cheers Robert
Robert, Great Layout!! I watched you make the engine terminal. Great job. I hate to see a layout go to waste from all that hard work. Is there any way to change the grade of your main line without taking the whole layout out?
Did you ever check the grade of a class 1 railroad? They like to keep it around 2%. I have 2% going on my branch line and a GP 38 (HO Athearn ) can handle 8 -10 cars.
Anyway what ever you decide have fun modeling!! Lavon
bigblue4120 Lavon when i tested the 4% grade all was working great but now 3 to 4 locos lashed up struggle to make the climb.and to fix the problem might have been worse than pulling down cheers Robert
Out of curiosity sir, do you have a track map that you'd be willing to share with us? Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!:)
+jo ret Jo i have no track map sorry and Merry Christmas to you cheers Robert
its s shame that this has taken place! the layoi and concept are great. saw this quite some time ago but did not comment as im busy building a small n scale (3x8 ft) layout with my son in his room, and very slowly teaching him different scenery techniques. have not searched but have you updates on new layout or found a solution to resolve old issue? so many "what ifs " like wheel width on a car or few of them. or gauge between rails tight, pinching wheel sets. i actually had that happen on a layout when extreme temperature changes over a short period of weeks here effected my track. The changes were enough to cause troubles but not enough to be visually detected. but then part of the fun in our hobby is in the puzzles we find and fix, and in the planning/ building itself of the layout :) good luck!
+honestgbfan Thanks for the comment and have started the new build, and your right about problems in this hobby,
So far i have finished the new bench work for the new layout, it is a walk around type this time cheers Robert
Are you able to change the drive gear ratio inside the locomotive, to get a much lower end torque at low power, to deal with the gradient issue.
+Honey Ryder No cheers Robert
Hi Robert I am at the moment removing my layout from an old coach at the back of my garden to my loft in the house it is 16ft square and without the loads of have beams and water tanks, I have made a base round the sides and I am going to run an underground train and have another layer above for the serface trains I am 82years old now and when I might decide to get sell it or snuff it and my family have to get rid of it I am laying an extra board on the top of the existing one so it can be removed as whole sections of a train layout without ripping it apart and selling it as spares and repair at least that way it will recoup a lot more of my money spent all the best Clive lane
Clive, 82 years young and still playing trains, hope i'm still playing trains by then lol.
And good idea about sections. And all the best cheers Robert
It is a shame but, if it don't work no need to continue. Back to the drawing board. I can't remember the grade % that you have but I would recommend no more that 2% grade. Less if it is in a curve. Also check the weight of your locos. Sometimes adding weight to them helps a lot. Look forward to the next video!
axeandrail I had 4% grade but for the next layout 2% will be my limit cheers Robert
You got a nice layout try using more locomotives add helpers
Mike i did use extra locos and pushers but this layout has been taken down.
And a new one is in it's place cheers Robert
@@csxmad o I just liked your layout
So did i!
I'm sure you tried to clean the track/ loco wheels? If it worked before, the main thing that has probably happened is "dirt" build up on the track. I would try a slightly abrasive cleaning method on the incline, to increase adhesion...
Thanks for the comment and i did try all the above and also tried Pushing from the back as well.
And i have started the new layout as well cheers Robert
How much did this layout cost in total for track and all scenery if you dont mind shareing. im just curious as im makeing my own big one and like to get a rough ball park
I have no idea how much this cost i didn't keep a running total cheers Robert
Hi i have an idea you may want to try i am putting it on to my layout works great.
Try putting 1mm metal strips under your track full width of the ties and fix some 2mm n52 magnets to the underside of your locos.
The size of the magnets depends on the clearance im using 2mm×8mm×25mm that gives me just enough downward pull for much better traction on the layout.
Inclines are not a problem anymore.
Ive found that fixing the track down to the metal using glue with screws and washers between the sleepers to hold while glue sets is the best way
SY BIRKITT Too late but did sound like a good idea cheers Robert
I'd try lashing up a few locos together and see where that takes you first
Jbs 309 I have tried three loco's and still had problems going up cheers Robert
Good Day Robert
I noticed you were only using 1 Loco! In real life they would use as many Loco's as needed to move the consist safely, also what did you use to clean the track? Some Cleaners leave a film and this causes a lack of grip
TheAudiostud Thanks for commenting and i did lash up four engines and still had the same trouble, and with cleaning of the track i tried a few different cleaning products and still the same results, also i tried using sandpaper which i wouldn't normally use but for this exercise i did but still the same problem. But now i will plaster the whole shed with insulating the walls and hope
this will be better in the long run cheers for now Robert
I hate to see this go, but it is your railroad and its your decision. On to bettet things. Problems are never good and im happy you decided to eliminate them. If you need help with the new layout just let me know. I have anyrail and will help you in anyway that I can.
Best,
John
John Prescott Thanks John and hopefully i won't be out of action for long and thanks for the offer as well cheers Robert
Robert.
Better luck second time around, "THATS WHAT KEEPS US GOING" we train people would never know what to do with ourselves if the layout was complete.
Cheer Up you sound down and I dont like that.
How about M-U'ing some locos together to tackle that tight radius??
Andy M
Sutton,mass U.S.A
***** Andy i did try 3 Loco's together on that curve and all were struggling to get up,so a new layout and a new phase so watch this space cheers Robert
Great layout shame you got to break it up as for loco won't pull, what about a double head engine or treble wouldn't that work. Seen them over there with more then one engine pulling. Well hope you sort it out and best of luck getting there with that problem. Roy Somerset GB
+Roy Tibbles Roy i did try upto 3 locos and a pusher but no go but the new layout is underway cheers Robert
loving the layout....
There a produce called Bull Frog Snot. I have used it ,and it works great. Good luck.
Tommy Brooks Thanks for the info cheers Robert
Sorry to here that it needs to come down.. I hope the next one is just as good or even better.
Go/Via/orgohome Thanks Mate and i to hope that the next layout is good cheers Robert
Blimey Robert, that was a shock to the system but I fully understand your thinking behind it, if you carried on with it then you would never be happy with it so best to start again now before you go any further. On the up side (I always try to think positively!) you will have all the excitement of building a new layout all over again which is a lot of the fun I think. Don't be a stranger and keep us all informed on how it's going even when building the basic framework. Cheers for now buddy. .............Graham
Graham Foulston Graham it was a shock to me as well and i will show the basic framework when i get started, and your right if i didn't stop now i would have later.never will be a stranger mate cheers for now Robert
Make sure your track is clean I had the same problem
what size room do you have this layout in ?
+G Alan it was 30 feet by 18 feet
Have you tried helpers on the back of your train like they do at the horseshoe curve? maybe that will help.
+JT The Railfan Yes i did try helpers as well as three in front but still the same thing cheers Robert
Wow, maybe extend the curve with a not as steep grade. I would hate to see that layout go because you did a nice job on it.
JT this has been dismantle now and a new one is in it's place, check it out on youtube as well and let me know what you think cheers Robert
OK I'll check it out.
interesting video
+Shelton D'Cruz Thanks for the comment Shelton cheers Robert
Constructive critique : Those red or maroon (bush/flower?) splotches on the rocks don't look right. Rockwork would look better with 90% them removed or painted khaki or tan ...Reds would look OK in trees or foliage, maybe..Rest is nice....
Thanks Mark and i agree with the red splotches cheers Robert
Mark Harris ......I agree mark
really feel for you robert such a shame all that great work.
guess all i can do is wish you good luck on the rebuild
we al learn from our mistakes or errors of judgement
keep going mate
cheers
mick
mrweaverman1 Mick thanks and hopefully the next layout will be just as good cheers Robert
I hate to see you change...but, I think we have all been there. Do what makes you happy! I'll be watching. I'M OUT!
FTLOT Thanks and nothing wrong with change cheers Robert
Wow, that a shock....clean the track real good and use two loco (MU) unit will help. But it your layout Sir Robert and I'm behind you on whatever you do. If it's time for a change....change it. Will be watching. Have fun with it. The next one will be better.
Bob, at Longshadowsmodeltrees.com
Widi1956 Sir Bob have tried cleaning and sandpaper but no go, so a new layout is to begin, you will have to put more vids of your trains running around to get me working faster to get back into it cheers Robert
I will.
I find the locos handle the grades better on the straight, not on a curve...
Much better on the straight cheers
so how many curve do you go Thur on the grade from the bottom to top... so your curve might be acting like a brake go up hill cut out four car and see what happen then if don't work use a loco helper but it a nice layout
+John Hunt Was three but this is all gone now cheers Robert
Try cleaning your track and use more than one engine lots of railroads use what they call helper engines to help push a train up an incline
MrKilo1986 Have tried cleaning the track and also tried sand paper but still the same outcome, and also have tried three loco's and that was also a no go cheers Robert
Run two locos like they do in real life, and put traction wheels on them like the old Lionel guys used to do when you have grade issues
+Bad Swing Productions Thanks for the comment but this layout has been taken down cheers Robert
+csxmad No problem! And your layouts are great! Love the videos!
Thanks a lot cheers Robert
more than one engine needed tp pull the load?
Hey Robert have you ever use sugar sand for the ballast
James no i haven't, what is sugar sand? cheers Robert
You sure some residue or oil not on track?
No oil and i did clean the tracks
I just got caught up with your videos. Another restart,,, arggg... I have a double wide garage door area to build my train in. We don't use the garage for any car, so I got th euse of it. You can see how I have done my O Gauge in my area, from the beginning. Getting ready to update to new video shortly. Look at mine at youtube-> search for .....mikeee railroadI have 4 videos so far. You do great work. I am getting ready to start up on my scenery next. I think the track work has finished. But things change. LOL
+James Logsdon James yes another restart but new layout new start cheers Robert
Dose it do that when u use more then one loco going up that hill
steveMCHS Steve yes and also when i use three cheers Robert
***** sad to see it go but cant wait to see what u make next
Thanks Steve
No way.....do your models have traction tyres?
hovermotion Yes way the layout is down and a new one will begin soon cheers Robert
OMFGG thats 1 huge pair of spheres to pull that apart and redo it....but if its not how u like it then it has to be done.....side note....do u think uve shined the rails so much to loose so much adhesion as weve all watched those engines ride around problem free ???? just a thought.....at the end of it all u stood tall and did it YOUR way...doffs hat
+Brat4PrimeMinister no the shine has nothing to do with the slipping of the Loco's but a great comment tho cheers Robert
Hell's Bells Robert thats a bit of a shock,,,, and it sounds as if you have made your mind up... so I presume you have considered all other alternatives ,,, (as a viewer we don'e get the same perspective ) I would be thinking just reduce the incline so your climbing an inch and a half two inches less,,,, but obviously its not as simple as that,,,, and if your not happy then you have to go with your gut feeling and instinct,,,,, You also say your going to plaster the walls,,,, you saw my video on building foam,,,,, that should adhere well to the walls with blobs of mastic ,,,, would that not be an option,,, as the say a man has to do what a man has to do,,,,,,, Best regards,,,,,,,,,,,,, Alan
***** Hells Bells Alan and your right about perspective it would have taken a lot to fix this problem, so i might as well start again. And will be using plaster board this is pretty cheap over here. and will be watching your progress while i'm out of action cheers Robert
don't give up if you use 2 engines will it make the grade .I had the same problem but when I mu 2 engines it worked fine.ps ac/dc is the best ttyl john
john hemple John have lashed up to three Loco's and still the same problem better now than later i suppose cheers Robert
man that sucks.
KingSNAFU I know what you mean cheers Robert
I disagree with you. I think you can save it. You seem to have enough "land" at the bottom of the hill to remove the track at the bottom and start the incline earlier where it is still level, the same place where the train stood still before you showed us the problem. I think it can be saved. also, you seem to have many locos sitting there .. use a second loco
Did try more loco's and even a pusher as well.
But this layout is no more cheers Robert
@@csxmad what about modifying that incline?
Hey Robert some time change is good. Here's my two pence worth. After seeing the great work he has done for "Big Bill" and others you might want to check out www.thetrackplanner.com to see if he can help you out with the new track plan. I know we all like to "design" our own layout, but more times than not we end up with something that looks good but is broken operational wise (no passing sidings, not enough on layout car storage and very little industrial switching so we can get our hands "dirty" operating train). We will spend $100's on engines and rolling stock and then skimp on dcc control systems and track.
Your skills with scenery is amazing, you eye for detail is great. Your electrical skills are on par with anyone. So why are you tearing down your model railroad? Track planning! So again, why not check out someone who has the proven skills to take someone's space, taste and budget and design a track plan to operate for enjoyment and have a realistic look?
I am by no means qualified to make suggestions on how to design a great model railroad, but maybe while you taking down this layout and getting the building done, thetrackplanner can be designing your model railroad for you! Then before you lay the first piece of track you know where your going.
Ok this was more than 2 pence worth! Just my thoughts, anyway how ever you build you new layout I'll follow along.
best wishes, Chuck
***** WOW Chuck that was a great comment and your right about planning and i have never used a plan because every time i
would keep changing as i would go but your right i should and thanks for your 2 pence worth nothing like a good suggestion cheers Robert
that's me in a nutshell Robert, besides all I want to do was "build" a layout (and long before we had the internet) so now we have great resources like CZcams and all it's great modelers to learn from! chuck
Wow, you get a lot for two pence with you Chuck....lol.......and all very useful I might add. Good advice is worth it's weight in gold.........David(UK)
You should have atleast 2 engines on there anyway
Yes i tried that and even pushers as well but a new layout has stared cheers Robert
Have you tried using helper's
Yes i did try out with helpers and the same result cheers Robert
